Elissa Milne was born in Sydney, Australia, but brought up in New Zealand, studying composition at the University of Auckland. Since then she has settled permanently in Sydney, where she teaches the piano and specialises in composing educational piano music.

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 50 bpm so this piece is not to be played too quickly. There is a sad and haunting quality to it, so a good legato touch is important, as is careful use of the sustain pedal. Crescendos and diminuendos need to be carefully observed, along with the multiple changes in general dynamics. Watch out for the molto rit. in bar 25 and also in bar 38.

Thanks! The keyboard I record with is a Yamaha Montage 08 but I don’t actually use the piano sound of it at all - I only use it as a midi keyboard. The actual piano sound comes from a wonderful VST plug-in called Garritan.
