Welcome to my Music Theory Tutorials. In this music theory lesson I will guide you through chapter ten in ABRSM Music Theory in Practice Grade 1 which introduces accidentals. I explain how a sharp, flat or natural sign affects the note it precedes. I also demonstrate how to accurately place these symbols on the stave.
I have been teaching music theory for over twenty five years and I’ll help you every step of the way - just as if you were sitting next to me. I have provided free a PDF information booklet with all the information you’ll need to work through the Grade 1 ABRSM Music Theory in Practise workbook, available in A4 and US Letter.
Music Theory is an integral part of any musician’s studies. Understanding the structures behind the music we play supports our practise and performance. Even if you don’t play an instrument understanding how music is constructed helps us to be a more informed listener.
I LOVE music theory! It’s like peeling back the layers of the music to look at the nuts and bolts that hold it all together and make the music work.
