Thank you so much for these Julian,. I have recenly gone back to piano lessons after giving up 5 decades ago! I have an excellent teacher after having a very fierce one as a teenager but I do find your playing of thse pieces so helpful. I'm doing it for fun...not exams at 75!!
Hi my fellow senior! I restarted a year ago too and enjoy it so much! I did consider exams but I am too nervous. I use the grade requirements to stay on the right path for improvement though. May we be able to play well at our own funeral. 😂 😂
I’m currently choosing which pieces I would like to do for my my grade 3 exam and this video really helped me decide as I could hear them all and choose which I liked best! Thank you!🥰
@@AlanBenney That's great, then I imagine you will be able to record a MIDI file or WAV file directly from the keyboard? A WAV file you will be able to play back directly just like an mp3 (I use WAV for my RU-vid channel). If MIDI you will need a DAW. I use Logic Pro (Apple), though you will be able to find one to work with your computer. Good luck. It's a great idea to record your progress in this way and it will make the learning all the more meaningful and fun i think. You could start a RU-vid channel!?
Ahh, is it the same no matter what examiner you have? In the exam itself I should just play it through without repeats? That's interesting but thank you for the answer
i just realised that in C1 (dance) The last bar says a tempo which means stay at the original tempo so you should not slow down unless you wish to make it your own
when ur watching this because you havent been able to practise throughout lockdown so far but u also cant see ur teacher so u forgot how to use ur brain when it comes to piano
I’m still at grade 2, supposed to have my exam at August but bc of covid it got cancelled unfortunately, it makes me more anxious and idk whether I’m able to go to grade3 but I am here for some reason 👁👄👁💧
@@JulianLambert I have a question regarding to examinations for this book, I'm not living at the UK but teaching this books so I wd like to know if my students can do examination outside UK, tx!
Hi, I am a little confused, I notice in Allegretto grazioso, that you do a sort of flick with your hand at a few points, I just want to know what the purpose is of the flick? Is this just your style, or timing, or something else. If you don't know what I mean play the video back, I can only see you do this with your right hand. However, I would really like to know. Di Pett
Haha Diana, it has no function and not something I would suggest copying! I think it was me simply wanting to bring off the previous note, the one with the thumb, but there is no reason to do that exagerated flick thing I seem to have adopted. So yes you guessed right ...a timing thing.
Hi Julian, Just took my G2 today after starting in December (G1 in April)... Think I did OK! I'd give myself a Merit, lol. Now I'm watching these and thinking... "Nope! I'm forever a G2 Pianist!" Maybe A1 - the other 2 feel 'too old' B1 - beautiful song! Only the pedalling scares me. Maybe that's good. And C3 - Funky is awesome.
Well done Matt sounds as though it went well and you're making great progress. I think we often look at next-level pieces and wonder whether our fingers will ever cope - but the challenge is very much part of the fun too. I quite agree about the A list pieces being 'old'. You may like to look at my website www.julianlambert.org. I've recorded some of the alternative pieces and there's a lovely Minuet by Mozart (aged 8/9 I think) for example. Best wishes for the next stage,
@@JulianLambert fab! I'm aiming to do G3 before my 1 year anniversary of piano. I like the alternatives and it also gives me other music to learn when I buy the books. Thankyou! Love the channel :-)
I really like A3 and thanks for the video it really did help me I played it very but now I am better I am going to grade 5 soon I do A1 A3 B2 and C1 I know I did four because I finished three haha 🤣🤣🤣😆😁 Idk why my teacher do that. But thank you 🙏 🥰 I am getting better.
I went straight to grade 4 but I only got 121 so my teacher told me to go to grade 2.I did my grading on the 19 July and now I I'm learning blues in the attic.
I did A1,A3,B2 and C1 (Cuz we had to record a video of the original 3 songs and 1 grade 3 song(and I simply chose A1) And I just passed ;-; Like actually passed with 150 marks lol
In bar 18, RH there are two crotchets each with their own dot - so two dotted crotchets. A dot after a note adds half its value. So a dotted one-beat note is worth 11/2 beats, a dotted two-beat note is worth 3 beats.
Haha ...you're reading my mind! To reply to your question I looked at the Suzuki Volume 2 and I can see that on RU-vid there is room for these. Um ...Have a great weekend and thanks for the idea!
Hi julian Am doing grade 4 piano in TCL..want to give abrsm exams also.which is the right grade in abrsm for me to start. Pls seek your suggestion on this aspect.
it really depends because different people are comfortable with different styles and all play differently, so it really depends on u, but id a song which u would stick to for a long time for practice so u dont get bored of it
Sure. There are 9 pieces published in the exam booklets, then another 9 'alternative' pieces which are available from various publications (or from imslp).
Yes. There are tutorial on 9 of the ABRSM G3 pieces that are available to patrons ($5 per month). Do take a look at my website for further details www.julianlambert.org, or write to me from there if you need any furtehr help.
i will do my exam in march 2020, i will play a2,b2, and c3. but my c3 is not good enough for now, meanwhile the exam will be held 2 months left. i really dissappointed for myself and my teacher was really upset bcs i didnt practice since my christmas holiday. hope i can get distinction for my exam:) or intermediate because i really afraid. is the c3 can be learn only by a few weeks? i only have 7 weeks left for practice the c3, some scales and aural test + sight reading :(((
