ABS Activating when BRAKING but NO ABS light is on - Citroen Berlingo Multispace

Very strange issue on the Citroen Berlingo Multispace were the ABS is activating when lightly braking under 30mph. No ABS light is on so in this video I diagnose what the problem is :)

Hey Danny, thanks so much for this video. It helped me diagnose the same problem with my 2010 Berlingo! Took it to two garages and they suspected wheel bearings, air flow meters or gearbox issues! Told them about your video and led them straight to the ABS sensor that was causing the problem. Quick fix, £90. And one of your other videos has diagnosed the problem with the knocking drop links! Hi Gary. Well the issue came back eventually after the new sender so just keep an eye on it. Basically the abs ring had corroded on the cv joint. I noticed it looked like water had got underneath the ring and rusted it slightly causing it to swell which is why no abs light was coming on as the electrical system was operating correctly. I had a look at replacement parts and on new items this defect has been modified. If you buy a new cv joint the ring it machined into the metal rather than being a stand alone ring that is fitted onto the collar of the joint. It was cheaper to buy the whole driveshaft brand new with cv joints as a full unit (around £60 if I remember) and fit the lot. I changed the gearbox oil at the same time. I can certainly see why the light wasn't coming on. The system saw a locked wheel and operated correctly according to the inputs. Goes to show you do need a decent code reader these days and the knowledge to interpret the data. Well explained and glad you sorted it. 👍

Yeah as far as the system was concerned it was operating as it should. The new sensor has fixed it. 🙌

Hi mate quick question, does your diagnostic machine also not read the speed on the sensors when you over like 10-11 mph?

It’s always worth checking the abs rings for cracks with those symptoms I have had it loads of times where they crack and they cause the pedal to pulse at low speed but it’s fine at once you get above 20-30 mph 👍

Sensor fixed it pal 👍 had cracked ring on the evo once. On these citroens the ring is more like tic tacs cut into the cv collar. 😎

Them sensors love to snap in the hub when taking them out. Berlingos are amazing cars I’m onto my 3rd.

I've been lucky with mine pal. On my evo they snapped in the hub and had to be drilled out. 😫

Guess the Bergingo... does not have TPMS... I know some cars use the ABS sensors for that... when the sensors go crazy... it freaks the TPMS out also... or does our Bergingo have TPMS sensors in the wheels....? or do you just check em every Sunday..... Great vid as always Danny more please..:) N x

Just changed sensor and now the light literally comes on as soon as you drive off..before it would judder like you say under 30 and then the light comes on and no judder...so not sure why the abs light is on?

When the abs light comes on it turns the abs off so there will be no judder. What happens if you put the old sensor back in? Pull the old sensor out and make sure no metal has stuck to bottom of it with it being a magnet 🙏
