Woo Audio amps are amazing! Super stellar build quality and performance. They have a lot of amps to choose from that encompass different budgets. I own the WA7 Fireflies dac/amp. That paired with the LCD-2 is pure bliss, warm relaxation.

you forget, this is that "oh what is that" piece that most audiophiles look for to get people into audio. it always ends with someone crying while enjoying music that they never really heard before.

All woo audio products measures badly. Lots of THD+ noise. This wouldnt be any different.

You should try Stax headphones those two headphones are not up to woo audio quality . IMO it is a great amp but the jade and the Sennheiser are very low end stats .If you get Stax flagships you Will get a better idea of what it is capable of. Enjoy the channel.Cheers

I feel like tubes are really bad and expensive versions of EQ. I know it's kind of the fine wine connoisseur phenomena, but peace EQ does what this does much better.

Hey Josh, nice observations about this amp unit. I think what you get from that price is a hand build audio component that uses premium materials and high end parts. But yeah... Tubes often sound colored which is good if you like the color and don’t get tired of it. I do prefer more neutral gear so I can hear the colors of the music better. If you feel like exploring more tube gear, there’s a 300B headphone amp/pre amp from Transcendent Sound that could possibly amaze you. I haven’t heard it, but I‘ve had other TS products in the past and they were the best tube gear I’ve had in my system. Especially their OTL power amps.

I own two Dacs and Amps--the Schiit Asgard and Modius stack and the Woo Audio WA8. Coming from the Asgard/Modius, I couldn't believe how much more low end I got out of my Focal Clears with them. It felt like I had an entirely different set of headphones. Additionally, the two modes on the WA8 really make that amp super versatile. The 2 tube mode kind of splits the difference between the clinical and dry experience I had with the Asgard/Modius and the really deep, warm, luscious, and intimate 3 tube mode. With the Focal Clears, in particular, the highs on the Asgard/Modius are pretty fatiguing, but the soundstage is really nice. On the 3 tube mode, the soundstage sort of disappears and is replaced with a really the rich bass. The 2 tube mode gives you a comparable soundstage as the Asgard/Modius, but isn't so fatiguing or clinical on the highs. For me, it's worth the money to have the instant versatility of getting that 3 tube thump I want from some bass heavy music, as well as more warmth and natural sound from string instruments, and the 2 tube airy soundstage for when I want to feel like the music is outside of my head. If you get the chance, do a review of the WA8, I'd highly recommend it. I think it'd film well given the attractive and compact design along with its warm firefly glow of the tubes against the black metal. If you hate it, you can then dish on the price tag.

Ok, seriously, people need to learn how heat transferance works.... That little sheet of Plexiglas is only going to deflect most of the radiated heat in a different direction, until it too has absorbed enough heat to start radiating 'feelable' heat. and of course its not going to lower the amount of heat getting into the room.

Any experience with Linear Tube Audio? I keep hearing that their products are a great compromise of tube and solid state.

Love Woo Audio Stuff. Have the Wa7 fireflies. Premium pricing but definitely delivers beautiful tube sound.

It seems a real and costly struggle to make electrostatic headphones sound good for a wide range of music. For me, it's a "Why bother?"

You know, Jason at first I was going to be quick to say that you were wrong describing tube sound as you did being wide open but missing gaps and then I thought about it. I remember going to Axpona 2019 and listening to all sort of tube headphone amps, with the Blue Hawaii being one of the most expensive, well over the price of the woo audio that you are reviewing and Quite frankly, I hated it and so did my wife for the exact reasons that you mentioned and it was missing the bass frequencies that were rolled off drastically. I noticed this on two other tube headphone amps there and my wife refused to try anymore because she was blunt and asked, where is the bass, why is it missing. We tried a Schiit Ragnarok and we both agreed that it filled in the gaps that were missing with the three other expensive tube amps. I own two solid state headphone amps and two tube headphone amps, the tubes are an Icon audio hp8 with the mundorf capacitor upgrade that actually does bass well along with my Vincent tube amp that is more powerful, 5 watts, it’s actually a hybrid. I think they both are, but both sound 1000 times more balanced than the 5500 to 5800 blue Hawaii, which had a treble and midrange to die for, but was fatiguing as hell. You are right Josh too much of a tube amps performance is based on the tubes used. I love my Simmoon audio 230hd and my schiit magni 3 with modi Dac and Loki are not bad either. I just need or want something balanced and will probably pick up a used Schiit mojonir a balanced amp to allow me to truly enjoy my balanced headphones. Josh your explanation for describing the solid state vs tubes headphone amp is probably the best by far.
