So sorry for all the hustle you've gone through. Now it's literally reopening and I haven't used any health code apps for weeks at all. All restrictions are down (yes, very suddenly). Hope to see you guys coming back. Have a great holiday.
@@Nicofilms hoping you and Jack soon get back to China . You are such a wonderful couple. When will you join jack in England? Fancy a meet up? Graham and Peng. X
Feel sorry to your lockdown in Shanghai. Literally the last month was the darkness before dawn in China. The infection tsunami has attacked all around China in an incredible speed. Now almost everyone in big cities have got COVID and recovered including myself. So you were lucky to avoid experiencing this chaotic period in China. Anyway happy new year to you and welcome back to China soon!
Thanks a lot! Yeah it was a really crazy time and as you say pretty much everyone I know has had it now. Hopefully things will get better soon. Happy New Year!
Aww I'm so sorry your last week in China was like that. So frustrating! It's so crazy because we arrived in the middle of November when everything locked down and strict and now since a couple weeks ago everything has completely opened, almost like covid didn't even exist. It feels so weird!
Thanks to your friend Phoebe, at least you are not alone stuck to your room on that hotel! Have a blessed and a happy New Year, Nico and Jack! 😊🎇✨ More contents and videos to come this 2023! 😊🙏
Yes it was so nice to spend some quality time with her before we left. We will be sharing throughout the year as we filmed loads before we left. Happy New Year!
The restrictions were lifted so abruptly, everyone was in shock, and within a week half the country contracted with COVID,I'm just glad you guys left in time, a very narrow escape.
Wow! How quickly things can change. Despite the challenges, I hope you had a good holiday season, and wishing you and Jack a safe, healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2023. Happy New Year, cheers from Australia.
So sorry to hear about this Nico! I wish you had a relaxing NYE in NZ. Thing will get a lot better in a few months, and I look forward to visit China for the first time in the past 3 years...
It's so good to hear from you, I've missed your videos! I'm sure you didn't show us the worst of how you reacted, I would have died from frustration I think, but I guess when there's nothing you can do about it you just have to accept it. You are both excellent filmmakers and I'm looking forward to your next adventures. HNY xxx
Thank you very much! Happy New Year! As you could hear from the phone conversation with Jack I was pretty upset. ( I forgot to film this part as I was pretty stressed). More because we were going to be apart for a long time anyway so this meant another week. But honestly because the covid cases were rising the uncertainty of lockdown was really stressful, once it happened I was the most relieved I had been in weeks because then I could focus on other things haha I was gutted but there was nothing we could do so we really tried our best to enjoy it. It's amazing what you can get done when you are stuck in a room and not able to leave.
I missed you and Jack, I've actually been lowkey worried but was just hoping you took time off for the holidays. Regardless I am so happy you are doing well and are safe!!
Aww bless you! Yes we said in our last video we were going to take some time to travel then see our families. But we will be back every week/every other week from now on!
I had been quarantine in Guangzhou for 8 nights 9 days (cause I’m entering China last November). The quarantine center in Guangzhou was not that bad, the food was so so (like a canteen food at school or my office years ago) so yeah I don’t really complain about it. What I did complain is about the transiting 😅. I mean I was supposed to go to Shanghai but with no direct flight from Guangzhou (as it was lots of cases that month) my transiting became emotionally draining. Thanks God, after that hell of flight to train transit, we were safely arrive in Shanghai. All things after that until coming back to my own country were smooth sailing. I was leaving 2 weeks after China decided to slowly reopened. Right now, I’m safe in my own country but most of my Chinese friends and connections are either just recovering or got Covid. Can’t help it since their population are so huge and it’s winter, it is freaking cold even for Shanghai! Thankfully, most of them are having a mild symptom. But since China decided to reopen, my yearly visit will resume quickly. Fuzhou, here I come!
I would’ve loved the bathtub!! 🛀 I was in Beijing burning with fever like the rest of us there 🥵. So glad to know it ended after this but so sorry you had to deal with this!
Omg Nico, it’s all normal in Shanghai rn. However, it bringing me back to that time of craziness while watching this video. Thx god we all good and I hope you guys doing well. Cheers
Sorry you had to go through that Hullabaloo, it was such a hustle but you and Phoebe and Jack really made it through and took care of each other all along the way. Nico I just want to tell you that you and Jack were indispensable to us, ~ the Chinese audiences. With so much bad political things going on, you and Jack being stuck in China during these pressure cooker years, AND STILL being absolutely wholesome and human? It gives me immense hope in this world. With you guys the world is better, and humans are more human. With love, I wish you 2 go on better adventures. It was an honor seeing all your works. China and we Chines are lucky to have ya.
really confuse for the government requirement in some times.....i believe this is the last quarantine before china re-open. I don't want to defend for our government, I also understand that is quite hard as a government to manage a 1.4billion population countries or a 30 millions population city, especially everyone has various demand. It's a quite tough job, but some times it still hurt our feeling with wrong order. Hopefully every thing back to normal asap.
I'm glad you have new content, China is going through a change in the epidemic, and I believe the future will be better. There may be a lot of inconvenience and emotional turmoil at the moment, but there are stories worth telling in life. Looking forward to more of your videos!
Although the Chinese government's epidemic prevention policies are strict, they have indeed protected many elderly people and children. Actually, I didn't understand the government's actions at first. When the policies were relaxed, I also contracted COVID-19, which was the most severe illness I have experienced since childhood. I believe the government has its reasons for doing so. If my grandparents had contracted the virus, I believe they wouldn't have survived this pandemic. But now, my grandparents are still well by my side. Grateful.
Nico, China is like that. Things can change really really fast, and the darkness is the darkest right before the dawn. The dawn can come way faster than you expected. Hope you enjoy your time home and look forward to seeing you back in China traveling literally freely as it was before Covid very soon!
You are totally right, honestly, it felt exactly like that. That last week was a really awful one for many in the country and I don't think anyone imagined the rules would change so fast but it did, literally the day after we left 😂 We hope we will be able to come back at some point this year!
I came back to China Shanghai after years of not being back, quarantining in some random quarantine hotel in Baoshan outside of the city center. I got here on the 24th and got covid probably from the airport in the US (I was asymptomatic, if I wasn't tested i would have never known) and the hotel told me I couldn't leave until I tested negative so I was there until the 31st. Two days from now on the 8th all of these covid policies will be officially removed. A lot of wild changes going on right now.
as a Chinese who just escaped from Shanghai, i can say. It’s fucked up in China recently. My dear party is not doing a good job recently! Welcome to Auckland, just today the weather is crazy…storming!!!
haha it was kind of her fault she said she 'wanted to spend as much time as possible with me before I left', I don't think this was quite what she mean though haha Yes he still managed to film a few videos, coming soon!
So sorry to learn that the last week of your time in China was chaotic. Hopefully the clouds will be past soon and everything will be back to pre-pandemic. Looking forward to seeing more content when you back in China. Like your vids. Happy new year.
Missed the opening of China by a couple of week. Everything happen so quick and a friend travelling in China was so happy, no lockdown. But, the downside lots get covid and recover within a week.
I know literally the next day after we left everything changed! But if we had stayed we would have got it too as everyone I know has had it now. But I'm so happy for everyone and hopefully this means we can return soon!
Ive got the similar situation when I was in SHANGHAI in October, I've been locked down in the hotel for 2 days, You were lucky to have free meals, and I had to order my own 😂😂
Proof, people, culture everything is great. Government sucks like many other countries but this one has turned to the worst. This is scaring away big corporation, the rich in China are leaving China and ultimately people will suffer. Sad I thought China was doing really well and government smarter than that. Look at what they are doing to Alibaba and all the businesses that are doing well... if you get too successful and wealthy in China instead of encouraging growth the govern will strike you down! One person all it takes. I heard many expats say I love China but China (govern) doesn't love me.
Unlike Jack, Nico at least you will be warm in NZ, even if you are in the South Island… I understand that Blighty is not doing too well. Regardless of where you are hiding in NZ, you should get some peace and quiet to finish your content, or whatever. BTW Shanghai alone is about 5x the size of whole KIWILAND.. so the peacefulness could be deafening. Most stuff will be far more costly than in China, the natives in NZ should be friendly enough. Regardless, you have been in China long enough to suffer a culture shock even though the people are familiar and friendly enough. Still, you survived China, NZ will be a breeze. Have fun in Kiwiland Aoteroa… it’s Summertime and everything slows down until, say, March. Sweet as, she’ll be right mate😁😘🌷
Haha thanks a lot! Yeah it feels exactly like that, I think there are only 5 mil people in the whole country which is a lot less than in Shanghai or Beijing. I'm excited to explore the south island next month when Jack arrives and see the difference as I hear there are a lot less people there too.
How are the people there in NZ? How many people have got covid ? I think it's more than 99.99%. if you look at people in China now, I think more than 70% have got it in a short month compared with 3 years in the other countries in the world.
So sorry about that turn of events..... nonetheless thanks for what you filmed, as it is a clear example of Chinese assertiveness and rules changes/ challenges. Thank you ! Witnessing life as it happens bears more meaning than a political side or what have you so many times.
Thanks a lot! Yes it certainly wasn't how we expected to spend our last week but instead of it being a bad thing we tried to be as productive as possible and keep on going!
@@Nicofilms not only that, you documented real life so all the stereotypes on China can collapse with this video you did..... cannot thank you enough. You two among other content creators are amazing!!!
Yes I'm happy to hear of the policy changes and I hope it will continue to improve this year and we can return to travel. We will continue to post throughout the year!
Chinese people need not apologize to foreigners who came on their own freewill - they DO know they visit a country of 1.4 billion, with more than 20 million seniors without COVID vaccine. So, yeah it wouldn't be their parents dying. If you folks don't like the burden of such large population and density, think before you come, and if you do come, welcome as always, please don't complain like you are being tortured. You don't have to love China, but some empathy of the country that you call "home" for a few years should be considered. It was 100% correct for the Chinese to hold the lockdown until it was sure that the Omicron death rate was proven less that the Delta, as well as the original variant. And the time needed to get as many seniors vaccinated as possible. If China went with the US or the UK, the body count would have been at least 4-6 times that of the US. I think we are all happy for you, as friends, that you will enjoy New Zealand - much closer to your lifestyle, much more space to roam without the crowd. Thanks for coming.
We have been empathetic and you can see from our videos that we were big supporters for the 0 covid policy for the past few years. We were living in China before the pandemic and stayed the whole time as we believed it was the safest place to be. This year it got hard to control this strain and it impacted a lot of people. Many were very frustrated with the strict rules as you could see in the video by the people complaining and protesting the rules - these were Chinese people. That wasn't me as a foreigner complaining. And you are right up until last month I knew no one in China that had the virus but most of my family and friends had it at some point at home. The day after we left the policies completely changed. I think many were relieved but also because this happened so fast there became a whole new load of problems with it because people didn't know what to do and were affected in a different way to before. Unfortunately we have all been affected by this disease in one way or another it really has been an awful few years for many and I hope that things return to normal for people soon.
Hi Nico, I can totally understand how do you feels like after u go though all of the things.
@@Nicofilms have a safe exploration of New Zealand , just in case the emergency number for New Zealand is “111” New Zealand is not as safe as also backwards behind China…
That seems like a dire situation. Anyways I want to wosh you and your husband Happy New Year 2023. May the difficulties experienced in filming will not happen again this year.
Thanks a lot Happy New Year to you too! Yeah it certainly wasn't how we planned to end it but at least we have a reason to go back to finish a few things!
Timing is a very important part of one's luck. Stop the sensationalized titles as click bait, maybe your luck will improve--when you look for drama, drama/trauma may occur to you (so that you can have an exaggerated title).
It was a lovely hotel much nicer than anywhere me and Jack usually stay but actually it wasn't paid by the government it was paid by the people staying there (at a reduced rate) I believe. Although I know this was being argued by the guests so I'm not sure the final outcome in the end.
