My second game of Absolute Emperor by Bruce Boyd, depicting the eastern half of the battle of Eylau - can Benningsen and Tolstoi fight off Davout, Murat and Augereau? Find out!
I made a few rules mistakes in this battle report, but I don't think it made a huge impact. Hope you like it!

Great video. This is the first set of Napoleonic rules our group has ever played. It is a bit of an adjustment from fantasy skirmish games. :-) We are playing at batallion level with skirmishers and using 54mm unpainted plastic soldiers.

I realize this is an old post but this was a great show of the rules. Good job!

Thank you! Would like me to do more AE stuff?

Nice report. I so far never used the Skirmisher option. For big battles with more corps this is one of the rules to use. Build my own QRS, too and put it on my blog. later learned that the author put a QRS on his facebook side. By the way I have no Facebook account. 😉

AE is fantastic. I really enjoyed your Pikeman’s Lament as well. I’m not particular. I like your take on wargaming. Thanks for posting

Interesting. Hadn't even heard of them. Thanks for the review, I'll take a look.

They are really good, as I think I have tried to communicate :)

Copy duely ordered, a bargain £4.70 + p&p (new!) on Abe books - couldn't complain at that!!!

Thanks for going through the play. I have the rules and will pull them back out for another look. It felt a bit strange that the infantry could just assault the guns without suffering losses themselves in that process, but overall, it looks like it runs quite slickly.

Not the most dynamic of battles really, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. For the guns they really need to be supported - I’ll double check rules for closing fire though!

@@williamswargames I have just had a quick browse … p.32. Under post resolution combat results, 7th bullet suggests that the attack needs to be played out to see if the artillery get hits …. I imagine they mostly will🙂 also in the combat modifiers inf / cav V art get +2D6 and artillery gets a 1d6, so presumably artillery get to fight in close combat, even though they are not mentioned on p26 first paragraph. Anyway, thanks, my interest is peeked enough to put some figures out 🙂

I was aware of the rule set but hadn't heard much about them. They seem suited to smaller scales and large operations perhaps? Thanks for making the video.

The rules by default are at army level, where each group is.a corps and each unit is a division. There are some slight modifications included in a rules variant in the book, such as the skirmishers rule, and that artillery have a 45 degree LoS - which bring it down to a divisional level where your groups are brigades and your units are regiments. IMO a much better way to play and that's how I do it. I use 2mm figures for ease/cost but I believe it would work well with any scale, you just change 'division' for 'brigade', or even 'regiment' !

Nice work. Have you joined the Facebook group? When skirmisher's in play, do they shoot at all or just have ZOC with being targeted first?
@williamswargames
@williamswargames 8 месяцев назад
I believe they act simply as a ZOC and ablative armour for their parent unit

Where did you get your reference sheet, it looks easier to use than the one from Osprey itself.
