I'm a ROI fan and I was shocked at England's defeat to Iceland. There just is no passion at all in the English squad. If we had beaten France we would've played Iceland and I would say we would've beat them 3 or maybe 4 nil but we would have been expecting to play England in the QF, not Iceland.

Now looking back from 2 years, it just showed how much things has changed.

As a Nott'm Forest fan I believe Stan Collymore played with passion and grit. IMHO he has been one the best Forest strikers since we lifted the European cup. No player of the calibre of Bale for England. Tactically and technically inferior. The players just do not look as athletic as the leading nations. Then there are other possible issues such as alleged inter big city club rivalries. Players not taking international duty seriously enough. Players bound by a longtime duty to be to nice and therefore not as competitive and streetwise as other strong countries. The lack of yellow cards for England would back up that theory. Probably granting too much space to some opponents because of todays rabid society issues. I am actually not convinced that England would even have the heart to beat certain teams in future Euro and particularly World Cup finals. Just too many things going against England to replicate Spain and have a purple patch but the right English manager who can get them organised to get the best from what players they had got would get some better placings in future years.

A few things baffled me when watching our euro campaign, anybody who can explain why these happened is welcome to answer.....1) why was Kane, our tall centre forward, a guy who you want in the box for heading the ball, out taking corners and long free kicks? 2) why pick Sterling for a must win game if he was having a 'confidence crisis'? 3) Why put Rashford on for a few minutes at the end when Sturridge looked like he didn't want to be on the pitch at all? 4) Why did Roy even bother taking Rashford, Milner, Stones & Barkley when they didn't get a chance? 5) Why oh why did Roy insist on taking his blue eyed boys Henderson and Wilshere - picking those 2 for the squad along with Sturridge proves that his squad wasn't chosen on form or merit alone....and lastly, Hodgson looked a little odd during the Iceland game, he never used to spend much time in games standing in the technical area but in this game he looked strange, touching his mouth all the time but not biting his nails....i dunno but looking at Roy you could tell we were going to lose, the thought that the match may have been fixed crossed my mind but i dunno.
