Good to hear about another into British outline modeling in USA. If you are not part of ETE look into it. Mainly German but there are some of us also into British.
Whilst I have a bias for the wonders of the Appalachian Mountains, a memorable journey would be the eastbound Capitol Ltd. from Chicago to Washington, D. C. The westbound journey could be through Pennsylvania taking in the Railroad Museum of Penna. & the Strasburg Rail Road very conveniently adjacent to each other before continuing your return to Chicago via Horseshoe Curve. The Superliner car that provides the best views is the Lounge with it's large windows. Wonderful for viewing the historic Baltimore & Ohio eastbound up Sand Patch. Schedules favour the trip providing a better chance of more daylight eastbound rather than westbound. A layover in Cumberland, Md. would enable a venture on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. If I know y'all are on the train, I'll attempt to be on the platform waving at Connellsville, Penna.
The american locomotive is a General Electric Genesis (officially trademarked GENESIS) is a series of passenger diesel locomotives produced by GE Transportation, then a subsidiary of General Electric. Between 1992 and 2001, a total of 321 units were built for Amtrak, Metro-North, and Via Rail. They aee being fased out due to emision regulations; and were primarely used on the long distance routes with the superliner coaches which are from the 1970-1980's (gen 1) and 1990's gen 2 and their indeed doubledeckers. (edit info is from wikipedia)
Wow what a generous gift, I'm 68 and haven't bought a new loco for 3 years, I simply can't afford the extortionate prices now !!🤥 I loved your vids on the rats' and shunters, I have one rat & two 08's and was extremely envious of your collection 🤔 My local MPD was Bescot in Walsall and I'd love to be able to replicate the shed full of rats, 47's and 08's, but this hobby is getting away from me as I'd love one of the new Bachmann 47's but at £200' ish, it's out of my price range, so I have to be content with picking up s/h lima's to increase my collection, it's a shame this hobby is so expensive now, and I liked your vid on the railroad plus range which might be my first new loco purchase in over 3 years, detailed.... No, but at a distance is ok, and at least it will be another loco, love this channel, and always enjoy 🙂👍
Hi Jenny, some great models there. Five years ago I did an American coast to coast rail journey and travelled a lot on the Amtrak Superliner, including the Chicago Zephyr, very comfortable. However the sleepers are a somewhat of a misnomer, you don’t get much sleep as you are looped out to let the very freight trains go through, it’s fun counting the number of power units! I always wanted to get a model perhaps I should and run it on the n gauge layout of Midsomer Norton at the heritage railway, it would raise comment from the S&D steamers!
Yes, pretty sure that's right. The survivor 30777 Sir Lamiel is one of these, built by North British in 1925 having been ordered by the Southern after grouping.
