Abstract Alcohol Ink Painting - a Mossy Outburst

Join me as I paint on a whim, no plan, just put down some ink and see where it goes. I cut out a fair bit of the detailing portion as it is just dotting alcohol so pretty boring.
Materials:
Nara paper 9x12
99% isopropyl alcohol
Ranger ink - Moss, Willow, Sunset Orange
Pinata brass alcohol ink
Small paint brush to guide ink flow and for dotting details
Q-tips for soaking up excess ink
Revlon hair dryer

You are very welcome. I am glad it can help. There are a lot of videos out there and I watched a lot when I first started. I have taken some courses too and I would encourage you to do that as well.

Can I ask which course you sign up to I have signed up for Jenna Webb course today it’s difficult to find the right one the style you do is the style I would like to perfect.. when I practiced with this my ink on the paper did not spread as yours has. I am using Nara paper, and the paper has nothing on it. Did you use alcohol on your paper prior to the first application of ink? I love your work. Alcohol inks are helping calm me through some troubled times, and my brain likes to just paint and create. You are a light of inspiration and I send you my best wishes in your life.

Thank you so much ☺ Sometimes I put ink down then alcohol and sometimes the other way around. It all comes down to how you hold the dryer and the speed of movement as well as lots and lots of practice. Experimenting and trying new ways is the best way to learn and discover how the inks move with the air flow.

Would you mind sharing what blow dryer you use? Your post just says Revlon. I have a Conair, same style, but I suspect even on low it is still too warm. There is a temp selection dial too, and I have that on the lowest setting. I got somewhere with my art today, after about 2 + hours of just sticking with it I have some pieces that are looking really decent.

This is beautiful but the music choice was driving me crazy with that continual loop. I’m much rather hear you explaining what you were doing. The colors you used… ext. 👍🏼

Thanks for the feedback Sandy. I am not great with music and have stopped adding as I think most people turn it off anyway as I do. I am doing these more to show the process vs as a tutorial, so I just enjoy the painting and pass that on to those who want to see.
