I made 2 collage art pieces using a supermarket paper bag as a substrate. I used a mixture of bright colourful gelli prints with black to create an urban feel.
One came together easily, one not so much and needed a bit of white paint to finish it.
I hope you enjoy.

I’m in the UK. The supermarkets charge a fortune for bags, I’m sure they were 40p each… no way they’re being discarded 😂❤️xxx

Delightful collages - when you placed that cadmium yellow piece on the first one I got excited too!. (And yes, I also enjoy joining up lines as I collage.) Thanks for sharing.

Think of them as “preferences” not rules.

Piles and piles of collage papers?? How about piles and piles and piles and then some! Because really, even the tiniest scrap can be a treasure so theres no throwing away, noooooo! Beautiful collages!😀💖🍀

I even struggle to throw away bits that have nothing on them, because they have the potential to be so much more 😱🥰

I like how you pushed through to get a resolution that pleased you. Both collages work well. I rather like the second ‘troublesome’ one, I think it will look great matted and in a frame. I do not think it will help to overthink what you do. Looking at how the process worked in retrospect is useful, but it really is the process that gives results and the decision making during the process, spontaneity gives good results, you video shows that. Nice work.

Hi Lindy, thank you sooo much. That is lovely to hear. Spontaneity is my preference as that’s the fun part for me. Planning ahead feels like a chore.

Re rules … I think “rules” are helpful in that they eliminate/ encourage certain choices in an orderly way. That is a huge help when making decisions. We need to be less burdened by choice. It is overwhelming to think “I could do anything”. Instead, thinking “how do I proceed with these constraints”. Of course rule are always changing as an artist. We try x for a while then move to y. So the rule is never a forever rule but more a notional set of current constraints. Once the constraint space is exhausted one can move on. Or return back after time has passed. Anyway … long winded way of saying on board with rules. V helpful.

Hi Kirsten, lovely work again. Especially watching you work on the second piece was exciting for me. I like collaging, because it´s always about finding the right place for a piece (of paper). And, when it´s done, it feels like having cleaned up a room in my inner space. Very satisfying. And for me less complicated than painting, because I can see the result of adding a detail much quicker. When you added the white paint to the second piece, that made a great difference indeed. Thank you so much for showing 🤩and go on please! I love learning from you. 🥰XO Britta

Britta, please know I love your comments. As well as the water mixable oil paints I’ve had some testing teenage communications of late…it’s quite mentally draining. I’d rather wait and leave a personal comment to folk like yourself rather than a generic “gee thanks”. I really don’t like that sort of reply when I get it, it’s so impersonal and I just don’t bother commenting again. ❤️

Hi Mary, I think collage is very difficult. I’m generally pretty unhappy with most pieces I create. It feels like it should be easy but it’s not. I would like to learn more about how to do it properly. I try think of elements of art like you do with painting.

No, The green piece covers the best part of the design! I use an Elmer’s glue stick lightly so I can go back and move things around later without pulling up the paper underneath.

Hi Lynn, i do love your rollercoaster journey with this video 😂😂😂. I’m like that with whodunnit TV shows. It’s really hard collaging…sometimes you’ve gotta hide the good stuff to let other areas shine. Then live with the regret…

One thing you can do to balance a collage (the second one) is to add a tiny bit of cad yellow somewhere else on the page.

Hi, thank you so much. Be brave. I call 1 good one out of a hundred a success story. Some people keep notebooks with just 2 or 3 piece collages (I don’t know how they resist the temptation to keep going). I also like a glue stick for a prompt change of mind. Xx

I think these are wonderfully arranged! Your 'rules' are simply how your eye approaches design; you make 'em and you can break 'em as you like. Abstract art still requires editing, evaluation and decisions. I sometimes find it difficult knowing when to stop. Also LOVE that cadmium yellow!
@quirkyqueens
@quirkyqueens Год назад
I am the same about stopping. I’m not sure if something overdone or feeling unfinished is worse. I think I prefer overdone because at least I tried.
