Hello Jesson. What a pleasure to come across this video and your channel for the first time. I am a recent art journal recruit and have been looking for inspiration for my next page. This video certainly did just that. I really appreciated that you used a very simple selection of supplies (no expensive stencils, gel plates, cutters, etc) but especially and more importantly how 'laissez faire' (as we say here in France) your relaxed approach is with the unplanned layers evolving beautifully. I feel a video binge coming on 🤓 Merci PS: May I suggest that you put an introduction of yourself in the 'About' page. It would be so interesting to know your background.

Just found you today and am so glad I did! I love the piece you made in this video and want to try something similar with the magazine pieces. I’m not very artistic but want to be. Is there an abridged answer to the question how you decide where to put the mark making? It is perfect but seemed sort of random which I’m sure it isn’t. Thank you. Hi and welcome to my channel. Well actually kind of random but I guess it has something to do with experience it’s a bit difficult to explain. There are certain rules to consider, like rules of thirds, putting areas of interest in an diagonal or in a triangle to move the eye around the page. Also think about contrast between light and dark, warm and cool colors just to mention some.

I use either glue stick or gel medium. It’s white gesso, it’s used to prepare your surface before you use paint.

Hi. Recently I love square journals. Right now I have a dylusions journal, just started working in it. I like the smooth pages. Before I had an Arteza square journal, which I also liked. But you can really journal in anything, I started in old books bought in thrift stores and I still enjoy those. Even notebooks work. I just glue a couple pages together and prime with gesso. I use a couple different journals at the same time with different sizes and quality. I hope this helps 🤗💗welcome to my channel

Where do you find transparent gesso? Do you make it yourself? Or is it just clear gesso you can buy?

It’s the same thing, different brands have different names for it. I have Amsterdam-transparent gesso and Liquitex- clear gesso. Those are only two of many brands. Depending on brand there can be different properties. Some clear or transparent gesso work as glue some don’t.
