In this art video tutorial, I delve into the creative possibilities of the Dina Wakley Media Journal, utilizing its diverse paper types to experiment with mixed media techniques. Using Blick matte paints, SoFlat acrylic paints, and a pencil for mark-making.

I’m one of those people that picked up that mixed media journal in the craft shop and thought “Nah I wouldn’t know what to do with that”. I think it’s hilarious that it now sold out all over the world. Good for you. I always love it when I see a new video in my feed. 🥳🥳🥳

I really look forward to your videos on Sunday. You had a great painting day! The bowl scraper did some extra special things today. I do like some brush strokes though. I got some insights into Clyfford Stills' works; Denver has the Clyfford Still Museum. Now I will try to have a good paint day.

Another great video. Only you could turn the brown into something pretty- just goes to show that you've got to be brave and experiment with colours and supplies. I definitely need to get a bowl scraper! Thanks again for sharing and inspiring.

Another great video. Love the colour combination. A little tip for your jars, just rub a little Vaseline around and sticky problem solved 😊 I do this on all by jars and glue bottles.

Tip - on your YES glue jar, put a piece of wax paper between the lid and the jar and screw the top on over the wax paper. Never sticks. 😊

I really like the combination of these 5-6 colors, especially using the brown instead of black for a fresh change. Not colors I would have thought worked well together, but I like it!

Those are just acrylic paint - so any acrylic paint is fine 😊

Someone overseas asking about alternatives to the blick Matt paints. I think this is blicks answer to the craft acrylic paints And not all of those are Matt. I have gotten to where I like to use the folk art acrylic paints that are labeled as Matt. They have some that are not Matt. On their old labeling before redesign they called it satin. If you are looking for a more professional grade for fine art, golden has some Matt paints in pots. But they are expensive. I hope to build my golden Matt acrylic paint collection up, but it is literally one pot at a time. And since they are relatively new, the color selection is pretty limited. So you do end up blending. But in the meantime I use the folk art Matt craft acrylic paints. I really favor a Matt look.

I use the SoFlats too - I just like that the Blick ones are a bit better than craft paints - but still good pricing. The craft paints are good to use too, and the chalk paints. Lots of options! 😊

That journal seems to have been discontinued. So looks as though I will need to make one myself. So please correct me if wrong. It is a mix of papers. In addition to the burlap. Some canvas pages , multi media pages, and some kraft pages?
