Cracking images Gareth, this was a brilliant vlog. Your eye is incredible, never thought you could find so many images in your house. Thank you so much for your time it makes a massive difference to me. My favourite was the chair.
Excellent! I do the same thing around the house. I see images at friends house too. They don't appreciate me wandering through their house taking pictures. 🙂
Observation, observation, observation and a sprinkling of creativity. I'm a retired teacher and one of my mantras was the connection between observation in the arts being linked to subjects such as maths and science. Do we learn how to observe, can it be taught? As an individual, I can see the possibility of an image that maybe someone else doesn't. It's a personal observation. It may be the result of cropping and/or changing an angle. My main photography menu is that of runners and holiday snaps. It's actually been a fruitful time for me; I've learned a little bit about Photoshop which will come in useful plus a record of the neighbourhood where I live. Your shots are really imaginative and I would think that street photography is the main influence behind these images. Thanks for that Gareth. Just waiting for the sun to come out now.
Thanks Gareth You have inspired me to look at shapes, light and shadows in a more creative way, like you say it’s very addictive. I think the photos you. Produced are very interesting. You have developed a good eye.
Hey Simon thanks so much for watching mate appreciate the comment to glad you enjoyed. Yes there are toys everywhere now but the Mrs is a clean freak so they are always put away again. Though I’m sure he will win in the end ha ha
Cannot believe the shots you got around the house Gareth and all very nice. Training my eye is the most difficult for me, but found this very entertaining and informative, cheers, keep well.
Some great inspiration! I am doing something similar and have achieved at least one banger with the light coming through the blinds and going over the steps of the stairs.
Hi Mate a stunning idea and what a lovely home you have... I take it i gave you the push to get this video made after our video chat the other day... You was really feeling low and this is just what you said about, the light around your home is ace... keep going mate
Ha ha not quite I did say I’d already made a video but wasn’t feeling sure about posting it. I did really enjoy the shoot though and hope that people would benefit from the challenge. It’s actually doing better than I thought it would. Good to speak to you though hope you’re well and yes I’m a lot better today thank you ha ha
Just thawed a Kodak Ektar 100 - 135 film for some photography in my homemade photostudio made up of a card-board box. Black paper background. Thanks for the inspiration! Really liked your photos this time.
great assignment !!! Each time i watch one of your videos I have this desire to grab my camera and start exploring for interesting light. Thank you so so much for keeping us inspired
Fantastic pictures Gareth. That third picture (13.00) is asking for a Playmobil or Lego guy to be in that light strip (or the edge of the shadow) to mimic a street photo!
You’ve been channeling your inner Patrick La Roque, 👍🏻👍🏻 The images are stunning, a great example of what can be achieved by challenging your creativity. Stay safe.
Hey Mark thanks so much for watching really appreciate your kind words I imagine you would get some belters though really hope you’re well mate. Will definitely have to meet up as soon as possible after all this is over. Be safe buddy
Wow! I love this stuff!!! The black and white abstract is incredibly beautiful. The blinds and railings and plants are photos that I really connected with to enjoy. This abstract art is really mind blowing. Since watching your videos I see shadows everywhere and more focused on the light, especially in the evening. Earlier this evening my dog laid her head on my lap and I had to snap a photo of her face, Fuji, X-t3. It was probably less than a foot and had great detail in her eye, surprising! I think it was set up in Zone Focus! LOL. Last night I signed up for f/8 and it said my card was declined; however, a few minutes later it cleared. It looks like a great magazine! I will be looking into the Patreon, to see how that works as your videos are super fantastic! Thanks, Gareth!!!
Great images which would make some really nice wall art. Just goes to show that given the right circumstances you can create awesome photos just about anywhere.
You have a great eye Gareth. Loved both the chair and the one of the triangle / floor shot. I noticed the light in your upstairs hallway - that would have some great patterns with the light shining through. Stay safe.
Thank you so much Susan that’s kind of you really glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I had noticed that lamp but it doesn’t seem to get the light hitting it so no shadows off it sadly. You’re right though it would be cool
Really cool photos and wow street photography for the Borrowers! Honestly don’t have a favourite but did really like the ones using the skirting and the Venetians but if I have to pick one then the cooker hood. 👍
Thanks Gareth, I think it would be a really cool idea if we could all post something collectively so we can see everyone’s work under that particular task. Do you think that’s a feasibility? 🤔
Been trying this sort of shooting out, it is strangly addictive! It's also helped me work out to set up a preset for bnw contrasty in Snapseed. Cheers Gareth!!
Oh Gareth, I don’t know which is worse lockdown from Landscape Photography or everyone doing videos on macro, abstract & water droplet photography. If I see another video in how to start in macro I think I will scream. At least yours are very different, although worked because of the Venetian blinds. Your images are street in house, so I can see the point. Images like yours are ones you could make a feature wall at home in prints. I suppose it is the argument about the Art of Photography. What one person likes someone else does not. Thank you for sharing as I might be inspired to try this one.
Hi nicky.. sorry i cant work out if that was a complaint or a compliment?.. not much we can film if we cant go away from our houses.. any suggestions welcome :-)
Good work Gareth, nice idea there. Myself managed to create a photo book. Been meaning to do for a while. Stay safe now, at least you don't need wellies while indoors. 😉
Gareth.. u are an absolutely henius at visualizing the patterns formed on surfaces... & conversion into unrecognizable forms. Cheers, vernon_alvares mumbai, india
Gareth Danks Is that a genuine Jeff Koons ballon dog!! If ever there was a good case for the importance of marketing a style that's it, check out the 'Jeff Koons stainless steel rabbit'. Great ideas with some cracking images, love the chair back & reflection shot. Bit late to the party on this one lol.
Haha yes mate it’s 100% genuine honest! (The real ones are MASSIVE) I wish. But yes the rabbit was in a film and they stole it! Can’t think of the film. Again much smaller tho. Felt an idiot that i couldn’t think what it was in the video. My mind went blank haha.
Some great abstracts Gareth - you have a very good eye for these. I also see you have the same gorgeous breed of dog as us - looks like a Maltese or Maltese /Sih Tzu?
Hey cheers Lee that’s kind of you yeah I really enjoyed it and to be honest I think I might do something again similar ha ha thanks mate appreciate you watching
Very creative Gareth! I have tried that before around the house but you have inspired me to try again. A question... do you still shoot in raw, but using the acros simulation to aid the visualization, or are you shooting in jpeg?
Really Really enjoyed this Gareth, I'm still building my studio room so this was great to watch and get inspired by. Most of all, some G style shots! It was like you brought the street style into your house. Really enjoyed...
Glad this popped up in my recommendations. I have a few frames left on a roll of film in my camera and I think I'll try some abstract stuff to finish it off. Btw, the dog sculpture is by artist Jeff Koons
Soooo amazing and inspiring!!! My fav is n.11 I will give it a try even though I don't expect any good results, just hope for not too disappointing images, so I will keep training. Thank you so much for these great vids!
Hi Gareth, You have missed a nice shot @9:12! The stripes below the bulb on your balcony/wooden railing. Not sure how to call that... But that was worth a shot in my opnion... Afterall, nice inspiration you gave me, as I just got my 100f from the drawer and looking for some sun entering my house... In this time, it is good to experience some other styles. Thanks for this video man! And have another go on the thingie at 09:12!
Wahayyy.. hello buddy. Why oh why oh why are you so bloody good. 😄😃👍 I could try that all day and they would all look like pants... Loved every one of yours. 🙂👍 Other things: *Bannister uprights are called Spindles *Galvanised cooker hood texture is Brushed Stainless Steel with grease spots (standard grime bud) 🤫 *Beautiful Home .. lovely. 🙂 Thanks for yet another belter buddy. Youre getting quite good now. 😄🙂👍Take care. All the very best..... Steve.
Cheers mate appreciate the comment yeah knew what they were just couldn’t think of them at the time glad you enjoyed the video I’m sure you get some good shots once you started seeing them. Give it a go I found it addictive and good fun thanks so much for watching mate 👍🏻😊
Oh cool that’s good to hear how do you get on.? I really don’t enjoy photography on my iPhone I find every shot has something wrong with it though I need to shoot it with a manual mode I guess tag me in some shots I’ll be interested to see thanks for watching mate
Great video Gareth, loved the cooker hood shot. Wonder how many people when asked, would mention so many different buildings that it could be if you had just posted it as a lone image?
Hi Gareth. Smashing project. Love the images. I notice that your ISO is very high for most of the images and keeps changing. Do you have it on auto or are you deliberately setting it high to create the contrast of dark and over exposure?
Nice shots throughout. Its funny how people are re-discovering genre's that were developing a hundred years ago. see 'New Vision', 'New Objectivity', Maholy-Nagy and the Film unt Foto Exhibition (1929). Not my sort of stuff really, but interesting none the less. It gives a new perspective on things (there's a photographic joke in there somewhere). Lets see if you're still wandering around the house with a camera by week eight..... ;-)
Ha ha thanks mate very interesting information there I’ll definitely check that out never heard of that before always exciting to discover new artists. I will definitely be walking round the house still in week 88 I’m really loving having my camera to hand capturing my family and different things I’m seeing around the house. Sadly my house is very minimalist so not much in the way of shape to photograph so I’ll have to raid the cupboards ha ha. Glad you enjoyed mate thanks for watching
Yeah, I noticed your place is minimalist, as is the present vogue. I'm more old school, mine looks like a Edwardian parlour combined with a university library. But as I know it'll all still be there after lockdown (presuming I am) then I'm not inspired to shoot it. I guess you'll just be filling up the shots with minimal space. Alfred Stieglitz based a lot of his work (equivalents) just on clouds, no background, no foreground, I suppose its an ever changing scene, might be worth a go. There's a whole host of historical photographers to be inspired by, not just Fan Ho...... ;-)
Inspirational stuff mate in this frustrating time for photographers :) Aside from the images what wrist strap do you use, mine does not seem as secure as yours?
@@GarethDanks I've seen quite a few now, over this lock down reckon I can get through them all! PS I used to have long hair too . I didn't realise at the start you had a sense of humour, reckon I was well wrong about that, lol. I think in these trying times a sense of humour is going to be very important for us all. Enjoying your videos matey, keep em coming.
Ha ha I certainly have a good sense of humour it’s just I struggle putting it in video sometimes. I’m still finding my feet with RU-vid confidence. I’m normally concentrating too much to say anything funny too haha. Maybe I should do a vlog after a few beers
Hi Gareth - thanks for a great video - will try my best to get within a mile of yours! I'm new to this - but could you just confirm what you mean by 'taping' the lens? Closest I've got is a 18-55 kit lens. Thanks again and you all stay safe. 📷👌
cheers paul.. sorry that wasnt clear.. put your lens at 23mm and put tape around it so you dont faf with it... makes it easier for just seeing shots and not messing with your camera :-)
I like these pics and they will give me some great ideas. Only 1 comment digital pics are all taken in color even though you set your camera to b&w the camera converts the color to b&w. So I always take my pics in color raw and convert the one I want to b&w in the digital darkroom. This way I convert it the way I want not my camera’s way.
Thanks for the comment mate.. shooting BW helps you see the tones and shapes better.. ill never use the cameras BW jpg as i always edit the raw.. but the BW preview helps you to compose for some types of shots
