Westie, you are right that American Football fans tend not to be as "dedicated" and "ardent" supporters of their team as Football (soccer) fans in the UK and other places. There are rarely fights between spectators, but supporters of certain college football and NFL teams will literally riot in the streets after certain games (regardless of whether they win or lose) causing significant damage to property, with broken store fronts and flipped over cars that are then set on fire. I actually saw news footage once of a guy being surrounded by football fans who jumped on his car while he was driving down the street, then flipped it over while he was in it, then set it on fire after he got out. They then started throwing their shirts and other items onto the flames. I will never understand that level of fanaticism for anything, let alone a sports team. That said, after the attacks on 9/11 they significantly beefed up the security at major stadiums, considering them a constant potential target for terrorist attacks. They probably don't have the level of CCTV coverage as London, but the odds of any serious altercations taking place at a major U.S. stadium is honestly pretty low.
