Nice video. You should do one for doors with push button operators and what are the best practices for locating these push buttons.

Take a look at the latest video! (AC 018). Hope you like it.

Great video but your graphics at 2:30 is misleading. There should never be any obstruction within the required maneuvering space, even if it is less than 8". Instead, the code (ADA 404.2.4.3) allows the space to be offset up to 8" from the door, meaning your "blue" box should simply shift up 8" max from the door.

Cool videos. What about a video explaining the area factor increase calculations based on frontage?
@mingshanfang5514
@mingshanfang5514 3 года назад
You dont need a 12" additional width for the front approach on push side if the door doesn has both latch and closer

Where did you get your information on the 24" pull side clearance on an exterior door. Not the ADA 2010
@ChristineLoABCBachelorette
@ChristineLoABCBachelorette 4 года назад
I was just gonna ask the same thing. I see 24" is "preferred". I dont see that its required.

One thing I've always been unsure about is can the maneuvering door clearance of a toilet room entry overlap the swing of a toilet room stall door? It looks like it can but does anyone know for sure?

So WERE TALKING ABOUT DOOR SWING TO A SMALL BATHROOM. So HOW LONG SHOULD YOU PLACE YOUR VANITY CABINET AWAY FROM THE DOOR SWING??????!
@archicorner
@archicorner 4 года назад
Who is "we"? and why are you talking inside a small bathroom? hahahaha. There are various items to be kept in mind for restrooms. Take a look at Archicorner video AC 019, or if you are in California, look at AC 020. Those videos talk about restroom clearances. The distance will depend on the layout. It sounds like you need to be sure you have both things: 1) Your door clearances and 2) your lavatory clearances. Not to mention, you need floor clearances within the restroom as well. Sorry there is no easy answer.

We will be redoing this video soon and update this error. 24" is required in California, our apologies.... Correction coming soon.

@archicorner, what are sliding door requirements as exit doors as per IBC.
@archicorner
@archicorner 2 года назад
Sliding doors are not normally allowed. 1010.1.2 Door Swing Egress doors shall be of the pivoted or side-hinged SWINGING type. There are some exceptions. Check out that section.

what is the function of the closer & latch ? and why do they make the clearances increase ?
@archicorner
@archicorner 4 года назад
A self closer closes the door automatically without the users further input. Because of this self closer, it takes more effort to open a door. A latch makes it so that you need to turn a lever to open. Some doors for example will remain open (does not have a self closer), and other doors, you are able to simply push open without turning a lever to unlatch it. The concept is that because a door needs more effort to open (in the case of the door having a self closer) and needs more space to maneuver (turning a lever) a disabled person needs more space to position themselves to open a door.

At 1:40: Is the 24" min requirement for the front approach pull side for exterior door in California? I've been searching the code I only find 18" min. Thanks!
@archicorner
@archicorner 5 лет назад
Thais Bohli take a look at CBC table 11B-404.2.4.1, read foot note # 5. Also figure 11B-403.2.4.1 door sample (a) shows it graphically.

I am a superintendent building apartments and these videos are very helpful. A suggestion please is to do less drawing and more explanation. The drawing aspect of your videos takes up a lot of valuable time and I loose interest. Just a suggestion. Thanks.
