Does a door serving R-2 occupancy (dwelling units) with more than 50 occupants going through it require panic hardware? It's not an A or E occupancy. Thanks for all you do with your videos.
Also, fire exit hardware is hardware (panic bars) that CAN NOT be over ridden to be keyed or otherwise unlatched. Some panic hardware have a slot for an Allen key that will lean the latch closed meaning the door will not latch, this is fire hardware for fire doors, basically, the door hardware will always latch closed. Panic hardware u can retract the latch to allow easy access from either side,
Normally existing non-sprinklered buildings are not required to be updated with sprinklers unless they are having a change in occupancy or undergoing an expansion. Things may be different in each state/jurisdiction. A local sprinkler engineer could help answer the specific questions. As for the fire alarm, that’s a bit too technical to explain thru this comment. A fire alarm engineer is usually engaged to asses requirements for all new projects.
Fire rated doors require self closers. However most exterior doors, even as part of an exit system don’t require a closer by code. Nevertheless one is often provide for security and other reasons. For example you don’t want the air conditioner working and having the exterior door open. If there is a part in the IBC that says otherwise please share it so that we can look at it.
I like how you connect each step of the code as if they are building blocks and explain why as you go. Have you ever considered doing a lesson to connect different code books IFC, IMC, etc. for those of us in the code enforcement or others? Your graphics are so helpful as well and you break things down in a logical pattern.
@archicorner, if there is an office space (with small offices and one big hall with open type workstations) on a floor and it has an occupant load of more than 50 persons. There are two exit doors from this office space to a corridor that leads to exit stairs. Is panic hardware required at exit doors of this office space (glass doors installed currently) or panic hardware is required only at the final exit door or door that opens to stairs? please answer.
Muhammad; What IBC year are you using, chapter 10 changes from one IBC to another. You also did not provide the occupancy group which is very important. below are SOME code references in chapter 10 that may provide more information for you: 2021 IBC 1010.2.9 requires all "H" occupancy groups to have panic hardware. Occupancy groups "A" & "E" are required to have panic hardware in any room with 50 or more occupants. There are also special rooms that may require panic hardware such as refrigeration machinery rooms, rooms with electrical equipment, etc. (2021 IBC 1010.2.9.1 & 1010.2.9.2) Some B occupancy and I-4 Occupancies may require panic hardware (2021 IBC 1010.2.8).
thank you for making your videos .reading the IBC and grasping everything is a challenge. but watching your videos absolutely helps to understand it much better, most of all the way you explain and teach. thank you for taking the time to produce them.
