1000 pounds is severely underrated.
@TheEngineeringDreams

Indeed! It is 1000lbs of trust per jet. This plane has at least 3-4 jets per side which would be 6000-8000lbs of trust. I noticed this shortly after uploading. Thanks for the comment!

@hlrguy

It's the JATO system(less commonly referred to as RATO) on Fat Albert(not AC130). It's actually up to 8000lbs thrust(lbf), which is equal to energy required to move 8000lbs-32ft per second per second(ft/s²-related to gravity) or equal to moving 8000lbs a distance of 16 ft in 1sec ([1lb*32.2ft]/s^2=1lbf). Assuming it's 15 seconds long, then the thrusters are designed to move provide 8000lbs of force for a total distance of 3600ft over the 15 seconds. Considering a c130 is minimum 75k lbs with another 45k in capacity and 4 engines providing over 45000lbs of thrust, it's a just a small boost when overloaded to get in the air.

How is it able to take off at such an angle? Do you have any information on that?

Simply, it was designed to do that. The craft has flaps like most commercial jets to provide the lift. The frame was just designed for higher G.

Thank you for this explanation. Shortly after uploading I already found out I miscounted/didn’t see all the rockets used. There are 4 rockets per side on this AC-130. 4*2=8 with each creating 1000lbs of thrust accumulating 8000lbs of thrust. Again thank you for the clear explanation and sharing your knowledge with other people. Glad to have such positive people which in stead of trying to criticize, help to make the video better.

The aircraft they fly is an updated model, but more importantly the military quit buying and using JATO bottles quite a while ago, and the Blue Angeles used up the stockpile on the old airframe. I doubt seriously the new C-130 can even be fitted with them. The Navy was never a big user, it was mainly the USAF bombers that used them

It’s the Blue Angels’ support team ship. At the end of each airshow the plane would take off with this beautiful display. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this or been to an airshow, so they may have changed it up. Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) was always used to get the ship airborne due to the ship coming so close to its weight maximums. A little bump in the rump never hurt. I’ve been on a 130 when JATO lit up. Talk about feeling the G’s on takeoff. Whoo. Awesome video. Thank you for sharing. 🤙🤙🤙

@@Theillist1 although it’s called a JATO, it’s not a jet. It’s a solid fuel rocket. Rockets are used in applications wherein either a) there is no or little oxygen-hence why they’re used in space exploration or b) when throttling the speed is not necessary. Once lit they continue to burn until the fuel is exhausted. Pound for pound, rocket engines create much greater thrust than jet engines. Jets, on the other hand, need an air intake in order for combustion to occur, hence why every jet engine plane has a max ceiling at which the engine will stall due to an inadequate supply of oxygen at high altitudes. Because the fuel/oxygen ratio can be altered in flight, jets allow the pilot to change the speed of the aircraft.

I was coming home from work one day back in the nineties. I noticed a station wagon pulling a trailer had a flat tire and was in a bad spot. I turned around and by then two other people had stopped also. The lady driving the car said her husband was ahead of her in a U-Haul. I had passed the U-Haul so I told the other guys to get her off the road and I’ll go get her husband. I found him a few miles away parked on a side street. I told him what had happened and we left his truck there and I gave him a ride back to his wife. We changed the tire and while doing so I learned he was moving to Pensacola and would be a pilot of Fat Albert. How cool was that. He asked me for my information and that Christmas I received photos from them of the Blue Angels and of course Fat Albert! He signed them to my son who still has them today. I was glad to know they made it to Pensacola hopefully without any issues. I thanked god that day for putting me there in a position to help someone who clearly needed it. Be kind to each other. I remember he would sorta chuckle and tell me kinda bragging in a way that he could put a bullet in every square foot of a football field in a couple of seconds...I really do wish I could find someone knowledgeable of the airforce and thier system during those times ,that could maybe tell his story through his records as far as joining underage he claimed because he had hair on his chest and he had smoked dutchmaster perfectos since he was like 12 yrs old .infact when they discontinued making them he complained to the navy exchange and found out the company that produced them was the reason .he contacted them and basically chewed them out and understandably spoke his peace ✌️ with them reluctantly as he always could see things and take into account the little things that tend to change situations for others aswell.and they had sent him there very last and final box of Dutch master perfectos cigars .which he felt very happy and thankful for thier consideration on thier behalf .besides that tidbit he had served in the Korean War and two terms in Vietnam. Was offered a base on the east coast prior to retiring but grandma was tired of moving around and being a local girl from honokaa on the big island of Hawaii she told him no she wants to go home so that's where he went back to oahu and there he controlled two hangars till retirement .but a few things sorta confuse me see he was also working for a couple other companies one being Lockheed and another Pratt or I forget also well there's more but it's too much to put here as is I guess .maybe I'm just lost and maybe I miss my pops and maybe 😕 idk 🤷‍♂️ but who knows .if anyone even has the time for this stuff nowadays. And really I'm not even sure the story could be told it could take me a lifetime to even mention the tidbits .
