Here's my take on Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer's 'Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive', recorded live at Mr. Vain.
'Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive' was written by Arlen and Mercer in 1944, and after being used in the film 'Here Come the Waves', was nominated for an Academy Award in 1945. According to Mercer, his publicity agent "went to hear Father Divine and he had a sermon and his subject was 'you got to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative.' And I said 'Wow, that's a colorful phrase!'"
It was first recorded by Johnny Mercer himself, with The Pied Pipers, and it has also been sung by Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, Sammy Davis Jr., Perry Como, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Bill Henderson, Mel Tormé, Tony Bennett, and many others. I hope you enjoy it!
