Nice video. Short and informative. I don't have such quazi relays, that is, a switch, but I just use a wire to make contact between the two slots. Same thing as a switch.

Nice to test if the relay is out, but that's all this offers and you can easily swap the relay with something else (on my 1995 K1500, the brake light relay is identical and can be swapped to test). My clutch still didn't kick in. I went through a lot of trouble, but for others, my AC pressure switch went out. I understand these tend to fail frequently. Mine was on the accumulator and has a valve that prevents losing refrigerant when it's unscrewed. 10 minutes to the store, 2 minutes to unscrew the old and screw in the new. $20 or so. You can test it by unplugging it and jumping the connector's positive and negative sides with a paperclip. If your AC clutch starts kicking in when you have it running and AC on, there's the issue.

Also try to wiggle the wires that run into the compressor. Not just the plug either but the ones that go into the compressor.

My AC went out when I had 200,000 miles or more on my 2005 GMC Yukon 5.3 4×4 SLT W/REAR AC.NOT SURE IF THE EXTRA INFO MAKES A DIFF. I took it to a guy, and had him repair it. And just for preventive measure I went ahead and got all new AC components made by ACDelco. So I paid up for the parts but I would rather have good stuff than half-assed parts. It worked great that summer BLOWING around 38°F the next spring it went out slowly. I figured it was a leak. I took it back to the guy,and whatever he did he fixed it. same problem the next year. So I decided to fix it myself. I checked the AC refrigerant, and surprisingly it was full. I checked my pressure switch by the accumulator and switched it out for the hell of it it didn't do anything. Obviously I did that after I checked my fuses and my relay. I'm not getting any hot or cold air coming through my vents I reset my actuator doors all of that works fine. I took off the two prong wire that goes to the AC and put my voltmeter on it and it is not reading anything. The only thing I can figure is I do not have a good ground, but I am not sure where those wires go to because it is hard to see ,and I am not sure where as to check for a ground other than the large braided strap on the firewall. The only thing I can think of is it is my HVAC auxiliary module/instrument panel on my climate control or a bad ground I know just enough to be dangerous. I'm one of those guys that would rather do all my own work on my truck but when it comes to AC'S and Transmissions I leave that to the pros, but I'm over that shit. I want to learn it all. I'm a perfectionist so not worried about screwing it up. It's too hot to be without an AC in the middle of June in South Carolina, and the guy that fixed my AC is an hour and a half away in my hometown of Florence SC. I have a job that's never ending in Columbia and I can't get away, and when I do I'd rather spend that time with my family and have a vehicle. If anyone has the answer please help. Thanks...

I have a 2014 gmc terrain. It has 89,000 miles on it. My ac started to not blow as cool as it should and if you turn it down any lower than hi it starts to blow hot air. So I took it to a auto shop to see if my a.c needed charging. The guy explained he done some kind of test or procedure be for air goes through the compressor and after to see if my a.c only needed charging or if my compressor is going out. He said that it was determined my compressor is going out. But he put the Freon anyway. Before discussing what he found our first. So my a.c is still cooling about the same the only difference is its not blowing hot air when you turn it down.Could it be something has went out on my compressor or is the only explanation is my compressor is going out.

So my ranger has good low and high limit switches, I can engage the compressor only by manually holding the relay closed any advice? Freon level is good and clutch seems to be good when engaged and blows cold but only if I hold the relay in the closed position

AC went out on my 2020 charger (Vegas summers are brutal). Fuses are good, compressor seems to work, so I think it's the blower motor. Is this a DIY fix or do I need to take it to the shop?

So basically when you power it on and it's working that means the wire from the fuse from the relay to the compressor is okay so does it mean the relay is bad or somewhere before the relay with the 10 amp fuse I mean I'm going to check that 10 AM fuse right off the bat but after that I'm kind of getting a little confused here I appreciate your help and I apologize I'm a little slow about it but I can't I'm going to get that to you got though because that makes a lot of sense that's making sure that it's a good relay also am I correct?

The device he uses mimics the relay. When he powers it on and it works, that means the relay was previously the issue. If it still doesn't work then it may be a fuse or other cause

If I’m understanding you correctly, you only have air coming out of your defrost. If that’s the case then you have a bad Mode actuator. That’s the one that determines whether it comes out through the floor the vents for the defrost

This is just to test it. If it works when you flip the switch that means you go get a new relay and should be good to go. If it dosen't, that means you got other issues.

Probably mean your relay is bad. It isn't relaying the power. When you ran a direct power wire to the clutch it engaged.

You can normally hear it "click" on. When it does, you will normally see a drop in pressure on the gauge.

It’s possible you have two different problems low Freon and maybe a worn serpentine belt. Also need to check your clutch and make sure it’s free that’s in front of your AC compressor

I have a 2020 Dodge Charger. When I first start the car it blows cold. When I accelerate to 50mph it starts to blow warm/hot. I turn off the ac for about 5-6mins and it blows cold again. When I come to a stop or stop and go traffic and blows warm. Any ideas ?

Make sure you have enough Freon, if you do then check your cooling fans, they should come on when the ac is on and stay on.

I had this problem in my Subaru Forester last year. My fix was removing the clutch plate and there were 3 washers/shims. I got rid of 2 of the washers, put it back together, and then the ac quit shutting off on me. Still working this year.

@@tomcastle2227 I have a 14 Impreza, where the clutch kicks on/off, and the RPMs jump. It looks like the clutch plate slips, after it stops. Was your Forester doing that? Saw another person saying to remove the plate, and a washer or two. Just looking for ideas, before I pull it apart, and still have the same issue.

@jcech73 there are videos that tell you what the clutch plate gap should be like a spark plug gap. Mine was too big of a gap so I knew removing a couple washers wouldn't hurt. Freon was good. My ac is still working as it should. There are temperature sensors that can go bad also - one on the high side and one on the low side. Removing the washers was a free job. Good luck with your fix.

The other day I took my 2006 Silverado to the shop because the ac wasn't blowing cold and occasionally it would blow heat out of the center vent only.. He added 3 cans of freon and changed the blower resister. AC was blowing colder than ever. Fast forward to a week later and while driving the ac goes off and on a few times until now it doesn't come on at all. I don't hear the compressor kick on at all. I hear nothing and feel nothing when I turn the ac on. What do you think could be the problem? Could it be the relay in this case?

You first need to check for Freon to see how much is in your system. If it’s low then check for leaks. You said he added three cans of Freon, one thing to keep in mind Freon does not just disappear if it’s gone or low and he added Freon then there is a leak.

@@AutoRepairTips757 turned out it was the wires connected to the blower resister. When I would push the wires back the ac came on and when I let go it would cut off. There was a bad wire. I replaced the wires and now it works.

Not necessarily it just means from the fuse panel to the AC clutch assembly is good. You need to check for ground power and the signal wire.

Not necessarily could be low on Freon jump it and see can you manually turn it on and if you can does it get cold inside the car? Also, if you have a set of gauges, it would be nice to hook to it to look at the readings.

aha i just use paper clip to by pass relay . next Clutch kiked in, and there is Freon in System, all spinning good- and Nothing !!! pressure no working no cold air

You need to check the control wire going to the relay. The control wire is the wire that activates the relay by using this test. You’ve confirmed that the wiring from the fuse box to the AC compressor is intact and the AC compressor works with no problem, it could also be a bad relay, so it’s either the control wire or a relay
