If you pay attention to the video, there are sections where it is clear that multiple audio tracks are present and the video only shows one take. Not to say that it was not her performance throughout but live it would have taken additional performers.
@@user-kc4oi7qi6l The Japanese koto is 13 strings. That preserved the Tang dynasty design. Traditional Japanese koto score uses the kanji 一二三四五六七八九十斗为巾 To notate the strings being plucked So anything more than 13 strings would use a different notation system. Japanese "koto" can refer to both Zheng 筝 (same kanji in Guzheng) and Qin 琴 (same kanji in Guqin) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6wP50nZSW5g.html The contemporary "Guzheng" is 21 strings and the S shaped back yueshan or the "S-type Guzheng" Is a design pioneered by the Zhejiang Guzheng school in the 1980s one of the distinctive feature is the introduction of "steel core nylon wrapping" strings. The green spacer strings is also used to mark octaves. Guzheng wear 4 faux nails on both hands, that is teardrop shaped picks, Japanese koto uses a rectangular shaped pick that's usually white color and only the thumb, index and middle finger is wearing the picks. Yamada koto school uses a rounded profile picks much similar to Guzheng. This is a Japanese school koto club, the picks are rounded as opposed to rectangular. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r0-QraivKCI.html A lot of koto playing uses the "sandwich plucking" by pressing the pick right against the strings "sandwiching/pinching" before "snapping" off the strings. This playing technique is more commonly seen used on the Guqin as plucking with faux nails using this method will cause noise Guqin that play with actual fingernails is still using this method of "sandwich plucking" Guzheng most contemporary playing will use a "hover plucking" by initiating the plucking motion about 5 mm off the strings to reduce the noise produced by the faux nails contacting the strings. Koto strings is tetron (synthetic silk string) which give a more silk sound. That along with the Korean Gayageum and Mongolian Yatga is easily to be mistaken for the same instrument. This was truly amazing, not just because it's an Eastern traditional musical instrument playing Western style music, but the actual use of the instrument and it's versatility. Never seen anything like this, and she's extremely talented!
Oh I highly suggest looking up various artists such as Mike Dawes then. He did a tribute to jump by Van Halen when Eddie passed. It's all arranged on a single 6 string acoustic. It's absolutely mind blowing. The talent that exists out there is amazing
I know what you mean when you say western music, but it just reminds me that Australia is practically as far east as you can go. The overly simple ways we divide up the world are silly sometimes.
This is beyond epic. Somebody in the comments translated your Chinese description, and apparently you used my guitar version as inspiration? I am honored and I think what you did is much cooler! 🔥
What's so amazing is how she keeps the core of the song (yet the surprise of being in a different medium) and THEN--she improvises with it, flirts with the tune, has fun with it. You are amazing Moyun. You are a gift to music.
The way she never looses focus between the slaps, the strumming, the melody everything is spot on I quite enjoyed a classic song on a very unique instrument
@@zelbarnap Almost all live music like is are recorded separately, and then layered over a video of the performance. That's part of how you get good sound quality and videos without microphones showing in them. It doesn't detract from her skill in actually playing the song.
@@zelbarnap It's clearly recorded and then they tried to match the video to it. You can tell a few parts where her hands are not matching the drumming.
One of the most talented musicians I've ever seen. I can't even comprehend how she's using one hand to pluck/tap and the other to do an entirely different beat of drumming.
@@kenkidder Rewatch the video and pay attention the the percussion while she is pulling the strings, or when she is acting like she is doing percussion the bass strings get strum in audio while she doesn't touch them. Yeah she is impressive but this video is 100% not one audio track. It's multiple recordings with the video being most likely playback.
This is a rough translation to what is written in "description" [from chinese to english]: This cover is based on Luca Stricagnoli’s guitar adaptation of Thunderstruck. After playing, I just want to say that Luca's unicorn arm [edit: strong arm] + ruthless iron hand are indeed something I can’t easily attempt emulate… Anyway, I think my left hand is about to break . The sound engineer told me that me turning the wrench looks like driving a hand tractor... absolutely speechless! Even if it's a tractor, are we starting in fifth gear or not?! Pity on this wrench and the floor of the piano room. They have endured too much, could be said they’ve sacrificed themselves [to the song] hahaha~ This is the second time I have tried a finger-style transplantation [edit: arrangement / transcription], and I feel to have learned a lot! I Hope I can bring y’all an even more interesting song next time~ Hope you all liked it! Remember to subscribe to this channel!
@YT oh could be 👍 someone commented unicorn is some chinese mystical animal but idk how it associates with music but transplantation=transpose could make sense. (i play a few musical instruments but not Zheng or any traditional chinese instruments)
Unicorn arm (麒麟臂) is a Chinese slang for "strong arm". Not always a compliment but I'm sure it was a compliment in this case. "Transplantation" (移植) is a mistranslation. It means "making cover with a different instrument (guzheng)" in the context.
@@senkagex oh perfect that makes much more sense. I'll change it in the original translation. So "tranplantation" would simply be an arrangement or transcription (i think the former sounds more correct).
@@jixxytrix1705 "大家° i translated as y'all but it's really like "us all"... it's very flexible tho so sometimes it also addresses second person (you plural). It's most commonly used as "let's". "大家好° = hello to "y'all" OR hello to everyone. (你好 [ni hao] = hello to you, OR simply: hello, one of first words foreigner learn). "大家出發吧!" = LITERALLY: everyone depart (+ a word to indicate exclamation... in ancient chinese there isn't punctuation) OR = "let's go!"
She didn’t toss it away She perfectly and precisely put it in a compartment that she then used for the percussion bits Still rock and roll, but also fucking impressive precision
@@miyukimoyazono5958 i'm not convinced. i have a guzheng - the secret compartment closes towards the instrument, so it seems to me more like she dropped it at the same time as closing it, which means the cover snapping would have caught it. i mean it's basically putting it back where it goes.
As a long time ACDC fan(30+ y) i will say this is one of the best cover of this melody i heard so far.Awesome version of western style mixed with ancient asian instruments and light steampunk outfit.I simply got goosebumps after listening to this masterpiece. You have a new follower in me,keep up the awesome hard work.
Only 30 years? Bah, I’ve been a fan since 1977 when Bon was still alive. He walked out right by me into the audience with Angus sitting on his shoulders while jamming the solo to Bad Boy Boogie
What amazes me most about this video is the fact that over 3 million people viewed it but only 151k “liked” it. Phenomenal job, thank you for sharing your talent with the world!
And can we also appreciate that that's not like a whammy bar that returns to a zero point? That's a tuning wrench, and she's manually putting that string back on the note it came from at the end of each of those flourishes.
"Adjectives fail me" is the most I can say, this is beyond incredible! Beautiful! Nope, I can't think of words powerful enough to describe this! I love it!
As an Australian who grew up watching AC-DC playing in YMCA halls and on Sunday Evening Pop shows, following them to being the Rock Gods that they are today, this cover of Thunderstruck was just excellent ! 🇦🇺❤
@@robertkeeney3898 As young teens, we just loved Angus, wearing 'convict pyjamas' (do you believe we wore those) in Jailbreak, to Bon Scott being banned from Christian owned Radio Stations for his performance in a church in 'Let There be Rock' It was great. 👍👍
literally none of what she did was even remotely accurate. she played the wrong notes and used the wrong note structures through the entire thing. not to mention that trying to play staccato notes as pizzicato inherently sounds like shit. shes also playing at the wrong BPM, sounds like around 100 as opposed to the 134 of the actual song.
Handdrumming, baseline, rhythm, and melody on one guzheng. In the first verse, it didn't even feel like the rhythm got interrupted by the melody, as it sometimes does to make playing rhythm and melody together on a single instrument work. Amazing playing.
@@Wolf-wh3qp watch the video, it’s offsync a lot of times. Also when she hits to make a handdrum sound the sound is always consistent if she uses her fingertips, knuckles, or palm. It doesn’t work like that.
I had to watch that portion three times to realize she incorporated putting that tone bending handle back into its compartment into the music itself. Simply astounding.
She actually doesn’t put the handle itself into the compartment she just shuts the compartment; The handle actually gets thrown off screen. (Still quite impressive though.)
I noticed the first time and was like "HOLY SHIT THAT'S SMOOTH" I'm a magic performer fan, I love watching guys juggle coins and poof they dissappear. The smoothness of that move she did, is comparable to those.... Thus, making it magic. Lol... Tldr: she good, she very good
Holy moly ~ one woman band! I can’t imagine all the discipline it took to develop this skill, and the passion and heart needed for fuel. Bravo, amazing human! 🌟
Oh my god I couldn’t take my eyes off this. That song is amazing normally but this took it to another level. One person doing it all so beautifully on an instrument I’d never seen before
Same reaction - I've never seen or heard of this instrument, but what a beautiful and versatile musical tool, and terrific track selection to pair with it. Will be watching more of her videos for sure!
@@rychbrind8299 it looks something like this in the video below. What you see in this video is the Chinese zither (guzheng). Apparently Dolly Parton can play the zither too. Hers is the European version. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6me_kOQX3jQ.html
This is breathtaking! If I were only to listen to this without the video, I would believe that this is played by an entire band. The amount of skill she must have to perform this is incredible. She also plays in such an elegant way that makes it 10000x more beautiful.
I’ve never heard of this instrument before. And to hear Thunderstruck on it … awesome! This was amazing. I can’t imagine the practice and skill it took to perform this. Excellence is all I can say about this.
It's called a Guzheng, it really is an incredible but difficult instrument to master. In Japan there is also a similar instrument that derived from the Guzheng and it's called the Koto. Super cool!
@@MagnificentPez Korea has a similar one as well the I believe its a Gayageum or Gagayeum, they are zither instruments I believe India ha a version too
Just discovered this channel. Your skill playing EVERY part of the original song, even the vocal melody, is absolutely incredible! Much love from Texas!
As an old rocker I had no idea what to expect and was so very pleasantly surprised by this rendition, unusual and I really liked it, thank you Moyan for this and the pleasure of listening once again to your mad talents! Cheers from BC Canada!
Okay, musically this is amazing and very impressive, but also stylistically with that outfit with the harness over the traditional dress and the mask made to look like a doll face you look like a Cyberpunk character ripped straight out of the universe. It's a very striking look, and very interesting!
Do you ever watch someone play an instrument, or do anything with such incredible skill that you have to sit back and go "wow... I've done literally nothing with my life" 😂
Everyone has a skill. I can't play an instrument to save my life. I'm a chiller mechanic and I've been able to troubleshoot a 1000 ton chiller and get a building full of people cooling without there knowledge of the emergency that was transpiring in an unseen mechanical room. I consider that my special power😊
you can tell when someone is having a ton of fun playing their instrument. the bobbing and rocking with the beat was just much fun on this end. one of my new favorite covers of any song ever!
This is why I've become a RU-vid addict. And hats off to AC/DC for the creation of the original. Do you think they ever had any idea their song would produce some of the best covers ever seen anywhere? I would love to know more about the instrument used here.......thank you Moyun, you made me smile today
To be honest I was expecting something funny, exocitc and minimalist maybe. But this is gorgeous, brilliant, amazing, incredibly musical, sharp performance, original and virtuous. ❤Thank you. I'll share. Believe me. 😊
her fit is on point...awesome looks and awesome music...cant be better than that. 3 minutes in and i'm stoked...she can perform and play also alternating the hands in the same "phrase" without losing track or missing any note...one can easily see the talent, the effort on countess rehearsals and the mastery of the instrument she is playing...this is absolutely amazing. ill try to strive to be ike her on the things i do lol
The best part of this (besides her absolutely killer rendition of a rock classic) is imagining how many times she might have listened to the original AC/DC song (Yes, I know she based this on a guitar adaptation by Luca Stricagnoli) to get the real flavor of what she was playing. Having that song as a permanent resident in your head could lead to some interesting life experiences.
Thousands of hours of work and dedication all culminating in one of the single most impressive covers I've ever heard. Sometimes I can't even see you plucking the strings in-between the percussion. True mastery on display
I am a big fan of AC DC and I also like acoustical music but I never would have thought an acoustical version of this song would work. I was SO wrong. That was amazing.
Wow, I cannot imagine someone playing the old hard rock songs I used to listen to and hearing it like this. I am so very impressed. Your skill is so very overwhelming. Please forgive to mention your beauty with your skills.
I've been a fan of AC/DC since 1977 and this is incredible. A thousand words come to mind , awesome beautiful impressive original while paying tribute I could just go on. Thank you.
To Moyun, I bow in the most humble display of appreciation and respect for the degree of skill with which you play; your talent is incredible and worthy of only the greatest admiration.
This is the most stunning thing I've seen and heard in a LONG time! The sharp left turn when she pulled the lever right off the side blindsided me. RU-vid algorithm, you never fail to deliver
Well RU-vid dropped this suggestion to me out of the blue and I must say well done! Loved this video and your version of a song I've enjoyed for years. Much respect for your wonderful talent.
after a couple of place on the net, youtube and facebook. I was IMPRESSED to see what you can do. Love the way you play and your music. U are GOOD really
I'm 70 and have seen a lot of interesting things in my life and at this point it takes a lot to impress me. I am uber impressed by this young lady. There is no superlative in the English language that can describe her talent.
You are singlehandedly bringing this traditional instrument into the modern world. People will look back to your influence as the one that inspired to take the instrument to new heights.
This translation is off I think…the leader is the initial D Takumi with seven or 8 speeds!? I know it’s Google so can someone please explain in English? I’m just wondering to be honest.
I never ceases to be amazed by some of the talented musicians you see on here and not in the mainstream. If only some of them could get the required exposure the public would get a treat!
@cagney The majority of people around the world, including China, enjoy pop music. A country's success doesn't depend on their musicians. Even if it did, there are people just as talented as this girl in the US.
@@cagneybillingsley2165 What a strange take on this video .China is rising because a talented expert Chinese musician covers an AC/DC song? Huh? There are talented musicians from every country. Why would you compare her to an American rapper and not a classically trained expert musician from any country?
The way that RU-vid lets you see which bits have been most replayed by hovering over the timeline was a really underrated addition... I can see that I'm not the only one who thought the way she slammed shut the side compartment to augment the percussion was farking brilliant.
as a guitarist myself (99% electric) this is very lol to watch. i love the time and energy which you must had to put into it. well done. well executed. also good creative use of that instrument. im sure many moves you used are definetely not traditional. i also like your mask.
I have no idea how I stumbled into this, but WOW! Such a cool take on a classic rock song. One instrument that combines strings and percussion. This takes so much talent! Absolutely blown away.
Просто потрясающе! Очень впечатляющее исполнение, очень сильный музыкальный инструмент и необыкновенный образ исполнительницы! Лучше просто невозможно придумать.
This is one of the best performances I have ever seen. The flourishes, the ability to cover all the instruments, and the definite Asian touches on a classic example of Western rock music? I've died and this is music heaven! Please, more! So much more!!!
I am speechless, that was awesome!!!! The feeling for the beat and the use of the fingernails on the strings (and on the wood) were perfect.🥰🥰🥰👏👏👏 Love from Germany!!!
THIS is why I love RU-vid. I can just stumble upon a master of their craft crating jaw dropping art. hard to choose this or hotel california as my favorite from her.
On my walls i have acoustic guitars. I have a piano, i am an old 59 fellow, i have been lucky enough to enjoy playing music all my life. This amazing woman puts me in the shade. This ability is something else. I am a beginner compared to this.
I applaud you. The amount of effort and sheer SKILL that had to have gone into playing this is astounding. My jaw was dropped from about 10 seconds into the song and stayed that way the whole way through. Bravo!
This instrument's versatility when played by an inventive musician reminds me a lot of the hurdy gurdy, particularly the way that Guilhem Desq plays it. You've got a new subscriber!
Dear Moyun. Im impressed by your skills playing this wonderfull instrument!!! And im myself an old Metalhead!!! Started in 1983 to listen to ACDC. She's a true master of her craft. This is more than performing with an instrument. Really good work, I hope her videos can reach more people, everyone needs to see this.
I really love how she uses the whole instrument, like in August Rush ~ just too awesome!!! In fact, I was enjoying watching her hands move so much that it wasn’t till the very end of the video that I realized she had a face mask (literally) on~ absolutely mesmerizing!❤
Slight audio overdubs at the beginning and at about 2:13-2:40, but it took me about ten views before I was able to tell. Still the fastest guzheng hands on the internet. Remarkable talent.
