Carbon filters (also known as carbon scrubbers) are a must have for any home cultivator wanting to keep their garden under the radar. Today, I review two popular brands by showing you a side by side comparison of the AC Infinity and the iPower 6" carbon filters.
AC Infinity is a brand that I have used for years in the audio world and have continued to support them because of the quality materials, builds and product support. When they decided to enter to Home Cultivation space, I was excited and knew I would be trying those products.
Years ago, I picked up the Cloudline T6 and T4 smart-fans and was pleased the commitment to technology and quality translated to this new division. I've not used a different brand since and don't think I ever will, but what about their carbon filters?
In all fairness, I have been using iPower carbon filters for about 3-4 years, so I have a good estimate of when those need to be replaced and it will be interesting to see how well these two do for me. Might I be switching permanently in the future? I know I have a preference for how they look, watch the video to find out.

Been using the ac infinity carbon filter and it’s great! No odor and it has lasted for a while.

Sick thanks for the informative video man. Just so happens I'm sitting on a new 6" AC Infinity fan and filter until my new tent gets here(few more days). I love Christmas. LoL I've gone through a few IPower filters they do the job fine. This is my first AC Infinity filter as well. It's a little over kill but I'm going to have 2 6"AC Infinity fans in my new 4x4. 1 pulling air through a carbon filter blowing out 1 connected to a basic dust filter blowing in. Connected to that awesome controller they have. Yeah I know this is way more than needed, but it will be super quiet. Cheers Chad Westport.

My AC Infinity 6" filter worked for 2 runs before noticing any odors. The Vivosun I tried to replace it with came out the box passing more odors then my well used AC infinity filter.

Thank you for the feedback, that is definitely good to see. So far so good over here. I put it in the stinky tent and I smell nothing unless I open the tent and put my head in. Cheers.

Does AC stand for Amazon's Choice, I was just wondering.I notice that with a few products. I have the 6 in inline fan btw. I got a vivosun filter and it came with a packet of charcoal inside the filter, with the filter being in its giant bag to contain excess charcoal. Any idea on what I do with that little packet. And how do I clean the excess out of the filter before I connect it to my AC Infinity exhaust fan.
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport 2 года назад
I've not seen a packet of charcoal included with filters before. Sometimes during transit, a little bit will spill out into the plastic bag holding the filter, but the charcoal is meant to be inside the metal walls of the filter / container. If there is excess on the outside or inside, just wipe it off with a cloth. The center of the filters should be hollow, does yours look different than these in the video?

Chad I just replaced my filter and ther is 2 fist size dents in the side do you think this would effect anything ? It’s very large unit so if it’s ok as is I would just keep it
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport Год назад
The concern would be if the inner walls are breached, basically letting air through without being filtered. That area may have slightly restricted airflow, but if they are shallow, I'd roll with it. Well, I guess I would first see what it takes to get a replacement. These things aren't advertised to come with dents, so nothing wrong in asking what you played for. Good luck to you, I hope it turns out well for you. Thank you for the question. Cheers

Do you have any thoughts on about how long each filter tends to last? The iPower seems to be significantly cheaper (you can get a two pack of the 6" for about the same price as one AC infinity), so I think the AC infinity would have to last twice as long in order to be worth it.
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport Год назад
I expect 6 good months out of a carbon filter. 24/7 air being pulled through it. I'd venture to say the AC Infinity lasted eight months, whereas the Ipower lasted six..... but truth be told, I'm likely nose-blind to much of the odors from growing. Being constantly around the smells, makes me not notice them when I walk into a room. But, when I open the tent at lights on and get hit with a big whiff, that tells me the filter must be working, because it's not that strong outside of the tent. Cheers :)

I got the iPower 4 inch but got the AC Infinity T4 inline fan. I want as much light reflection going on as possible. I also got aluminum dryer ducting to connect to ports. $40 shipped for the iPower 4 inch WITH 2 extra prefilters vs how much for AC Infinity? There's NO beating the strength AND quietness of the AC Infinity inline fans. That's something you don't want to cheap out on. Imo ...But, I'll be using it as an air filter for air going INTO the tent. I'm not too concerned with odor but I do smoke in the same 1 br apartment that my 2 x4 will be in.

Chad, is that the regular 69$ option or the X L series for 99$. The more expensive one does 520 cfm and the cheapest version I believe is 400 cfm, the XL is a little harder to get at the moment due to demand. Fyi
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport 2 года назад
Cheers Patrick! This is the $69 dollar option. It is the size I have been using regularly in my smaller tents. It's been through a couple flower cycles now and I feel it is still eliminating odors from the room. The XL sounds like a great option too, I would have to check the dimensions to see if I'd have enough clearance in the tents. Thank you for your comment :)

@@ChadWestport - The larger would probably be suited for a 4x4. I've run a Phat 6"x14" in my 2x4 and it has been a lil warrior at 275 cFM way undersized

Thank you for asking. I would give them 8-12 months of use before replacing . If you MUST be completely discreet, change them every 6-8 months.

Whats your thought on a vortex pro 125 carbon filter
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport Год назад
I've not tried that brand / model. For the most part, I feel carbon filters are all the same. Some have better materials, some have better craftsmanship. But the price range I'm looking at and discussing, pretty much all the same IMO.

please do an update in 6 months .. would be interested to see how the AC infinity filter does , I have AC infinity fans but i got a Rhino Pro carbon filter which has been very good & came highly recommended but its 2 years old & think I should replace it , & the thing to remember & it always worries me as we get used to the smell of weed & cant smell it anymore so dont really know how good these filters are 😎
@ChadWestport
@ChadWestport Год назад
Thank you for the question. I would say it 100% needed replacing after 12 months. I think I started catching a scent around 8 months, but at six months, it should have another run left in it. Cheers :)
