I'm on my 4th build of this kit and I have 2 more on the shelf for a law enforcement display I'm making for my Dad. I know what the problems are going to be so I have some tips for this one. The interior piece that leans forward just needs the little wedges in the front cut down by half. The rear upper window holes need to be backed with tape and filled flush with clear UV as the kit windows are 15% too small. I placed some thin styrene on the rear floor and skipped the rear seats. You could fill the little seat holes, but that's a pain. Using lead wire as the stick and swap the handle allows you to bend it around the pilots weird position. I decided to just cut all the doors out and make it a summer model. I added a pimp assembly spotlight, antennas and slick decals... Nobody will know how long it took, or what you needed to do to just get it to baseline!! I feel like this is just playing sports in the rain or being in combat in full MOPP gear.. it's a challenge and sucks but, can make you better if that's your goal. Thanks for the video!
That's a lot of problems. In my little stash, I have the CHP version that comes with the motorbike and three figures. I'm hoping this one has fewer problems than you had, but I expect it's the same moulding.
I have 3 of these for a md-500 display. With some preplanning and awareness of the issues, you can get a pretty decent little example but it will take 2x as long to complete.. patience is the name of our game right?
Thanks for doing this Kenny. Hasegawa used to box this - I'll have to check ScaleMates to see who originally did the molds. Minicraft, Academy, Haegawa - this one show age. I built a few of these back in the 80s - different variants. One was an Army TOW model - One was an ASW Navy role. I've also got an MH-6 Stealth version. To make it stealth they just "smoked" the clear parts. I'm sure that's all the Seals do too. I think there was also "TJ's Helicopter" version from Magnum PI. Cool helicopter though!
Thanks Scott! I love helicopters theyvare my favorite subject. May try to hunt down a Kitty Hawk Little Bird in 1/35 scale. I don't mind but kits because now I have a new video route for them. It could actually be helpful to other modelers instead of just binning the kit.
I would not have the patience to deal with this kit. I commend your fortitude in dealing with the issues. I would have likely redesigned and 3d printed parts to replace the ones in the kit.
Thank you Sam. I just blasted through it to show how bad it is. I wish someone would come out with a nice kit of this bird. I love helicopters and this is one of my favorites. Thank you for stopping by and checking out the video!
