Join us for another exciting episode of Academy of Tone! Thomas is back from the 8th Crossroads Festival at the Number 1 Guitar Center in Hamburg, and he's bringing all the highlights to you. This incredible weekend event featured exhibitors from the USA and across Europe, showcasing their latest products, hosting workshops, and connecting with guitar enthusiasts.
Thomas had the honor of leading the All-Star band for the Saturday night concert, joined by special guests Marcus Deml, Marco Wriedt, and an astounding 14-year-old guitarist, Rudi, who blew everyone away!
Throughout the festival, Thomas met some fascinating members of the guitar community, including his German friends Andreas Kloppmann, Nick Huber, renowned pickup maker luthier and tech for Brian Setzer: TV Jones and Boris Dommenget, the luthier behind guitars for The Scorpions and Uli Jon Roth.
In the second part of this episode, Thomas continues his quest to find the ultimate backup Strat. Watch as he modifies the electronics and optimizes the setup to achieve the perfect tone.

I hope you enjoyed all the interesting things I experienced at the 8th Crossroads festival at No1 guitar center Hamburg. For me it was exciting to meet new and old friends and learn from some of those great people in our industry! Also making music with Marcus Deml, Marco Wriedt and Rudi was making this weekend trip to Hamburg worth the long travel. I’m glad that my little experiment went well, trying to prove the influence of different values in the electronics in the guitar can change a lot… -> to be continued! *My only Strat* is a mid 80s Alder body MiJ, with a 90s one piece maple Mighty Mite neck. The pickups are DiMarzio stacks and it is usually strung up with flatwound strings. 20 years I've had this partscaster and it's literally the only Strat I'm interested in owning or playing. I don't even think I'm a 'Strat guy' and don't play in a Blues style but more of a Post-Punk way. If you have gear that you find fits your style, you get down to playing. Your show is always a pleasure to watch... Thomas, great success with all your products!

Ich bin mir fast sicher das es nicht der Tonepot ist sondern der lautstärkepot sind die eine Gegenkppplung zum Pickup darstellen. Der Poti ist parallel zum Pickup geschaltet,somit bildet er ein Schwingkreis mit dem Pickup. Erhöht man den Widerstand in Gegenkppplungspfad( Masse),klingt der Pickup klarer und heller. Nun kommt hinzu das die Pickups möglicherweise verschieden hoch gewickelt sind. Dasist auch der Grundwarum Gibson 300K lautstärke Pots einbauen um ein wärmeren Klang bei weniger heissen Pickups zu erreichen.

Das Tone Poti is zwar nicht zu vernachlässigen da es ja einen ähnlichen Wert wie das Volume Poti hat, und über den Kondensator auch den pickup belastet, dennoch stimme ich deinen Punkten voll zu. ;-)

Again, a very entertaining episode. Which song was that at the very beginning where Marcus Deml played? The gentlemen guitarists in the chat weren't 💯 sure 😄. Marcus Deml, as a guest on AoT, would certainly be great. His kind of playing sometimes reminds me of Pink Floyd.

Wenn wir hoffentlich mal welche in Serie bekommen. Ich arbeite daran, aber es scheint sehr schwer zu sein eine Serienproduktion in der von mir gewünschten Qualität hin zu bekommen. Ich gebe die Hoffnung nicht auf! Viele Grüße, Thomas

When buying a masterbuilt bluguitar is there a chance to buy a closer specimen to your 61? Or is it just a matter of luck to get a good replica? I watched the last episode and some models were worse, but I don't know if they were just early models with trial and errors or it just depends on luck

We are constantly trying to improve. And then there are better and not so good ones. But to my personal taste every of our guitars is even better then most custom shop guitars. Especially when judging them against my 1961 Strat. … waiting is not a bad thing. The whole project is more about to gain as much knowledge as possible for a later mass production. I hope that we are able to start this mass production next year. Greetings, Thomas
