In this candid interview, documentary filmmaker Lourdes Portillo explores how her Latina roots and quest for social justice have shaped her films, from LAS MADRES: THE MOTHERS OF PLAZA DE MAYO(Argentina, 1985) to MISSING YOUNG WOMAN(SEÑORITA EXTRAVIADO, Mexico, 2001). She describes the collaborative San Francisco independent filmmaking community in which she works, discussing LA OFRENDA: THE DAYS OF THE DEAD (Argentina, 1989), CORPUS: A HOME MOVIE ABOUT SELENA (USA, 1999), and THE DEVIL NEVER SLEEPS (Mexico/USA, 1995).
