First, I am really glad that you and Dan walked away from this uninjured. I can only imagine what you are going through at this point. I am not sure where you are based, but to have something like this happen and then be stranded must be beyond stressful. I know we have never met, but if there is anything I can do or possibly do, please don't hesitate to ask.

It’s ridiculous that anyone would think that this was done as a publicity stunt! I know you loved your 150 bro, she will fly again!! Keep your head up bud!

I hope everyone knows that I was only kidding (I assumed everyone understood that?) when I made a comment on Dan's video. It was just very ironic he made that statement, then the accident happened. If anyone REALLY believes it was a stunt, they have bigger problems than thinking it was a stunt.

No one thinks this is done as a publicity stunt. They were *JOKING*. It's a joke. Because Dan claimed others crashed airplanes as a publicity stunt without evidence to support his claims. Dan is just getting what he dished out first.

Main thing is you both were not injured, I feel your pain, I totaled a 1968 Corvette Convertible that I had restored, broke my back in 4 places, when I came too in the ER first words out of my mouth, was how’s the car? Unlike your plane it was not repairable! That was in 1978 and it still hurts loosing that car, oh and it took years for me to almost fully recover as well…. Again, you are blessed that no one was injured, you’ll rise above it….. I resorted to humor and joked about trying to jump the lake through a bridge! God Bless!

Wow man, I can imagine! What a beautiful car - my buddy's mom had a '71 ragtop, about the same body style. Thing was gorgeous! Glad you were still breathing at the ER ... I remember at age 12, I let one of my buddies ride my brand new '86 Yamaha BW80 dirt bike - he pinned the throttle, panicked, and went straight into a houses foundation! Never offered any help to repair it. Bent the forks! I was distraught. Then in my 12 year old mind I figured I could hammer them back into shape, and cracked the aluminum outer tubes, all the oil leaked out, and the forks bottomed and seized inside, lowering the front end over 4". Dad got an estimate from the dealer - over $600 to fix it. He handed me that estimate and said, "Your riding days are done". I cried for WEEKS afterward. He let me suffer for a bit, then brought the forks to work and straightened them on a press, bought a new outer, and I was back on the trails, the happiest kid on Earth. Taught me a valuable life's lesson there!

@@SmittySmithsonite I was racing in a Turkey Scramble topped a hill, landed hard, busted the retaining clips on the forks (didn’t know it at the time), but did shortly after when I got airborne and the front wheel was dangling, knew that landing wasn’t going to be pretty - HA!!

Watched your more recent video where you found out why the flaps stuck, in retrospect, Thankful your daughter was not flying when this happened as it could have turned out MUCH worse. So sorry this happened to your plane. Mechanical problems happen unfortunately. I would hate for Anything to happen to my 150 I learned to fly in it when I was 17. Hope you are able to get it flying again. The flaps failing never really crossed my mind until last year when my flaps failed and stuck down on a preflight. Made me start thinking about it everything time I use flaps from that day forward. It could have very easily failed in the air like yours did. So glad you and Dan are ok that is the most important thing. In my opinion “not that it means much” y’all did the right thing and you walked away. You played the hand you were dealt and made the most of it. Sorry for the long post just feel for you cause I can only imagine how you feel and I can relate a little because I own a 1966’ 150 too they have a way if becoming part of you. As a fellow 150 owner I can attest that the airplane is a fantastic STOL airplane when operated with 40* of flaps. I cannot think of a landing I make without full flaps when I think about it. It’s a tremendous amount of drag when they are out but it’s also what makes it such a fun airplane. If you don’t think it was meant to fly this way you simply don’t know what you are talking about. My condolences to the owner but I am glad you are okay buddy, she looks like a wonderful bird worth keeping around.

Too many have died in these types of accidents. Very glad you are both OK. Read about a possible gofundme. Count me in. The flaps 40 argument is nonsense. It’s a very useful setting for STOL. I’ve had owners demand I use full flaps, 40, to minimize wear on their bird. Been flying 35 years, many 150s, never had a flap issue. I have had asymmetric flaps several times in 172s but never a peep in a 150. If I’d been flying with Dan and he so much as hinted at wanting the controls during something like this, bet the farm my next words are, “your airplane” while I handled airspeed call outs and radios. Rule #1, don’t stall spin the damn thing. Seems simple but graveyards and RU-vid hold proof of pilots that found that simple instruction impossible. Hope you put up more videos of the recovery process.

Hi Matt--I was sorry to hear about this accident at ACCA. Flying for 40-years and being an aircraft owner and builder, I found myself wondering about two aspects. Before the flight, was the weight and balance checked and within the maximum weight limit? With full fuel and two fully grown men, it's very easy to be over weight in a Cessna 150. Also, why didn't the instructor pilot just put the airplane down in the STOL field immediately after discovering the flaps were stuck at 40-degrees, instead of attempting to troubleshot this problem at low altitude (i.e. aviate first and foremost)? With the instructor's vast experience, I find it very hard to understand why he allowed the flight to develop into an accident. In saying that, a Cessna 150 isn't really a good platform for STOL operations either. I wish you the best and hope you can find a way to get your airplane fixed and flying again.

I know your pain brother and it hurts. My family lost a 152 that was tied down at an airport and a storm rolled in, ripped it off the tie downs, and threw it into a cornfield. She never flew again. I know EXACTLY what you're feeling, brother. I saved for years, plus sold an ATV to buy my paramotor trike setup, and I'd be distraught if anything happened to it. It would sit broken for years before I could get the cash to repair it. Always something good that comes from something bad, though. Think of it this way - this will be MUCH less painful than if Addie had been flying when this failure happened! They say the Lord works in mysterious ways, and I believe He had a direct hand in the outcome. Both you and Dan walked away, the plane is totally fixable, this failure will never happen in that aircraft again, and Addie was nowhere near it when it all happened. That's the best outcome anyone could ask for. And I'm sure plenty of good people will help you get this bird back in the air much sooner than you ever imagined when you crawled out the door into the corn. God bless!

It looks like it was a beautiful 150, and you'll get it going again and it will look good as new. I'll chip in to the rebuild fund. My Dad owned two 150's, the first had manual flaps which he loved, and the second had electric, which he hated (too slow to extend and retract). I had a friend back in the early eighties who had the same problem you guys had while flying a club 150 with his instructor, practicing full flap stalls at altitude, and they barely made it back to the airport when the flaps stuck. Good luck and keep the videos coming on the rebuild. I'm subscribed.

I've never met Matt nor Dann, so don't hate on me for this observation; Absent was the jumping up and down thanking Dan profusely for saving their lives and assuring minimum damage to the plane. This has an appearance to me of not being completely sold on the decisions made by Dan following the locked flaps... Just an observation, most of us have been in situations where we handed over control of something we owned and not been ecstatic with the results. :shrugs: Either way, of course, I'm so glad that this didn't turn into a fatal accident, that we would only see in the paper, or hear about in the news, much better to have them survive and talk about it themselves.

The aircraft was uninsured. Just my opinion, a prudent owner would insure his aircraft. Yes... airplane insurance is high as a cat's back and it's a gamble. A gamble I wouldn't take. Even if the annual premium on a C-150 were $6000 a year... in this case $6k is a drop in the bucket.

How much do you weight, how much does Dan weigh, how many gallons of fuel in the tanks, what was the temperature? I do not think you and Dan did this intentionally. But, I do believe you may have been duped into something else that turned into this. I believe there is a good possibility that the plane was overweight by quite a bit. Why? Because I weigh 225 or so and I flew a C150 quite a bit last year. we couldn’t take much fuel, even in winter. We had to be very careful how much fuel we had on board. Best Wishes.

Hey man...I don’t know you but this moved me and I empathize as a fellow aviator. (I have 1000hrs in 2 years in my Mooney and just bought a T210). I’m bummed this happened & II wish all the best for you!!! I only just discovered Dan on youtube. I generally like direct type peeps. but tapped out after a couple of videos. The accident reports were very good but the self serving BS. I wasn’t gonna hang with... (shit music, caustic humour, and a poorly aging man gives me enough of a picture). IMO an expert in the plane wouldn’t have crashed it. I learned early on in flight training (with an excellent instructor whose skills I admire) to not be afraid of pushing back..We were landing in 26-32K crosswinds on a hot Texas day. I landed the plane for a touch and go and the instructor says “more rudder” (it was in the floor) After berating me I said could you show me what you mean? He said sure so I handed him the controls base to final..Landing resulted in a bounce then balloon and then a goaround. From that day on I won’t let any pilot no matter what their experience to mess w me at all if I am in the left seat. Just some thoughts that xrossed my mind. Best of luck and hold your head high friend.

Brother. I’m not saying this as some cliché nonsense. Everything happens for a reason. As a hypnotherapist that works in the deepest level of trance. I can say this factually, and I know you already realized this. Those flaps were destined to get stuck. If it didn’t happen now it would have happened. This happened this way with Dan and you at the controls to make it safe. It may not have been you but your daughter or maybe you in an Crowded area. Please understand this. This was going to be worse. That is why you were compelled to have this flight. Keep the birds eye view man. Much love. We will help that plane fly again.

@samaipata4756

Just Ignore those stupid comments about „intentional“! Your airplane has suffered the least damage possible given the circumstances. And I‘m sure the cause of the flaps unable to retract will be found! No one got hurt is the main thing! We all make mistakes and most of the times pure luck will hide them for anybody to know, but sometimes we are not quite so lucky and end up with some damage like in your case - it‘s not the end of the world - and give it a few more days and no one will talk about it anymore! Cheers.

We just need to figure out which bank near him (I think?) to set it up thru. Not sure. I've done one before. I'll look into it & find out.

It’s not an uncommon problem with Cessna to have stuck electrical flaps. Have had this problem numerous times over last 38 years having owned many. Normally a wire broken or micro switch near flap selector switch. Mine were C206 and C182 but these gave more power than C150.

Your are here to pickup the pieces, many are not after a similar event. You aviators out there learn by this. To use Dan's words fly the plane to the scene of the crash.

Total bummer. Hot day, heavy payload (anything is heavy in a 150), Density altitude a performance factor or the Electrical system/battery health, etc. Flaps sticking is a fairly unusual and uncommon fault, so it strikes me that the electrical system faulted somewhere between the Battery to the wiring to the rigging, perhaps? Even with flaps down though, I'm a little surprised full power couldn't maintain altitude at a low level airport. Don't talk to the Feds. I know your instinct is to cooperate. But trust me on this one.

@@derheeheehee6941 I fully agree with you. Just my opinion, a prudent owner would insure his aircraft. Yes... airplane insurance is high as a cat's back and it's a gamble. A gamble I wouldn't take. Even if the annual premium on a C-150 were $6000 a year... in this case $6k is a drop in the bucket.

Word is that the plane was overweight (2 big guys, full fuel) and had electrical problems on the ground, but they took off anyway. So lots of errors, but no, not a 'publicity stunt'. Glad everyone is okay, even DG.
