That's a good question! Within our NCTech Pre-seen Video Part 1 our SBL Tutor, Paul, links Porter's Diamond with Fokkers and the German car industry. The key point really is that Germany is well known for the quality of its car manufacturing and this can be traced back to the period after WW1. Think BMW/Mercedes/Audi etc etc. What Porter suggests is that Comparative Competitive Advantage happens for a reason (or many reasons). So, Paul's point is that certain determinants must have come into play at the same time to drive the car manufacturing industry forward. The specific element of the Diamond that is in play here is: Related and Supporting Industries so it may help you to think of the similarity between an early WW1 German fighter plane and early German production cars. Linking this back to the SBL exam itself, there were clear reasons for the accelerated development of the cloud services industry in Farland over the last 10 years and should, for example, NCTech consider expanding abroad (Ansoff's Matrix - Market Development) then they would need to assess whether this new market had some, if not all, of these determinants. I hope this helps!
