In my Hilux here in Far North Queensland, my hilux runs at around on 85 on guage, but with towing and a 38c degreee day, the coolant goes to 90 under heavy conditions. I do have a bullbar fitted by toyota dealer up here 20 years ago.

Driving mine sits 86/85 and rarely goes much higher on road even working harder - maybe 88. I got to low 90, super soft beach, too close to incoming tide near high tide, pushing very hard to get back to the access track before becoming stuck. Prado 120, 1kdftv, auto.

Well explained, I have driving lights, bullbar, winch, trans cooler and my temps can range from 85 to 96 depending on the heat of the day and the load on the car. More noticeable on hot days going up slight inclines, generally seeing boost at 8psi or more.

I read in the repair manual that the coolant contributes 60% of the cooling of the 1Kds motor. The other 40% is from the oil cooler (which is cooled by coolant) that cools engine oil. Has anybody had a problem with the oil cooler, ie. leaking coolant into the oil or leaking oil??

I am engine monitor anal. By way of example before On-board Diagnostics (OBD) protocols became standard nearly 30 years ago and then engine control units or ECM's used proprietary code I invested in a non factory ECM chip that provided those codes (along with more fuel & some Ford Mustang Injectors ) and very basic fault code reader for a V8 Petrol Landrover. However this provided no real time readings only fault codes. The only workaround to avoid temperature disaster in this engine offroad was a after market Coolant Level Alarm with its sensor in the top radiator hose. Overheating its over bored alloy block with steel cylinder liners was the kiss of death as the liners let go. You thought pinging was noisy :-). A temperature gauge useless as with sudden coolant loss the temperature actually DROPS with NO coolant to measure. I have always wondered if a after market Coolant Level Alarm still has a place today in a modern (say post 2005) offroad vehicle engine like a 1KD-FTV?? What do you guys reakon?

Hello, i have a 2011 ford mondeo 1.6 tdci. Is it normal that when i use the heat and blower on maximum and i am idleing, the coolant temperature drops form 81C to 59, if i stay long enough?

Besides increased fuel usage is there much else can go wrong with running below 83 on a 1kz?

I easily see 100, doing 110 on the highway, then sometimes up to 110 for a long up hill run
