I became good friends with Tony in 1998 and he was struggling with drugs, and the hurt from the group members. I ran into Tony about 3 months before he died at Church. He introduced me to his wife, and I introduced him to my wife. Tony was a Beautiful person. He ate dinner and hung out with my family in Fort Worth Texas. And it was devastating when I heard that he had passed.
Everyone said Tony was a beautiful person, it's terrible that he didn't get a chance to fulfill is singing career, one of his sisters said he devoted himself back to church, it's also sad that he didn't get a chance to marry his fiance, they was together for 4 years and she really stood by him through everything, sorry for the long post, Tony is truly missed, he still is the voice
@@sonyamcmillan2348fact's I know his wife said Tony asked her to marry him multiple times but she was saying she really didn't take him seriously but knowing what she knows now I think she would of said Yes and maybe things would be different
@inadawardlaw7288 Look. I don't have to lie. Plus it would be stupid. As I stated I was reunited with Tony, meaning it had been 10 yrs sense I had seen him. He came to join our church. (New Breed Christian Center) and he introduced my to this woman he said was his wife, now if she wasn't his wife That's not on me. But he was my friend. That's No lie. Oh and how do you know that that Spanish lady's not his wife???
@inadawardlaw7288 You speaking from a ignorant position. How you gonna call a person a liar that you don't even know? He'll I can't tell you who you know and don't know. So what makes you think you can judge me. I truly hate you trollers who get on these platforms to try to tear people down. Your opinion don't mean nothing!!!
He could sang. I enjoyed listening to him and Hi-Five as a kid. The music industry is treacherous and love taking money from those who don’t know the business. Thank you for redoing his story.💖
Til this day, Tony has such distinct voice. Instant nostalgia anytime I hear it. One of my childhood crushes 😂 such a beautiful smile, but you never know what's going on for people behind the scenes.
You are CORRECT you never know, and some of the issues & problems sometimes stems from childhood trauma NOT saying that this maybe the case for Tony, but some stars reveal that this is the main reason for leaning towards drugs.
Junior & Senior year of high school spending time with my boyfriend who is now my husband of over 27 years. This was our jam! Rip Tony! Hi 5 was the group💪🏾💪🏾
This post has me feeling so nostalgic. I played a lot of Hi Five on the radio as a D.J. in the 90s. R.I.P. Tony Thompson. R.I.P. also to Roderick "Pooh" Clark who just died April 2022.
Fact✅ *late July 1992 while riding in group transport VAN 🚉 in Miami, FL and struck from behind by another motor-vehicle (truck). The group at this time (Tony, Marcus, Treston, Roderick “Pooh”) while on their way to this Miami radio station, accompanied by Jive record staff (Unsung 2014)… just starting out on promotional tour for 1st single “She’s Playing Hard to Get” released on July 15, 1992 and prior to “High Five” Hi-V 2nd studio album Hi-Five “Keep it Goin On” release date August 11, 1992… limited media press on accident, hospital barred, shut down…👋🏽❤️🕊🕊💙
I found out several years ago that Tony sang the hook of Guy's Let's Chill. I can't believe I didn't notice those were Tony's vocals back when that song dropped back in '90. Man, I miss the 80's qnd 90's R&B. Those were the days! RIP Tony 🙏 He was always one of my favorite vocalists! And so handsome too!
Yes Tony sang background on Guy's song let's chill. But he sung background on many other artists songs. But the one thing me and Tony talked and laughed about was that on his solo album he had a song called Handle our business, and he had the great Dave Hollister on background vocals.
I never clicked so fast thank you CU for redoing this bio on Tony and Hi-Five. They was in my era. Such a tragedy the whole original previous group. I will never forget Tony. So heartbreaking how Tony passed away. So young, gone too soon. Our world is plagued by drugs. Sleep In Peace, Tony Thompson.
It’s 2022 and people are still talking about Tony Thompson. We’re still craving for Tony 15 years later. Not only was Tony attractive, he had the voice and swag that no one could deny. He was so underrated. He had a lot of potential and ought to be more successful than he was. I was devastated to learn that he passed away due to his drug addiction. I hate drugs.
Omg I just watched their Unsung again after finding out Pooh passed away a few months ago. R.I.H. Tony and Pooh. No shade the Jackson 5/Jackson's was the greatest boy band of all time.
If it wasn't for Michael Jackson and the J5 Never paving the ways Tony Thompson and HI5 would have never existed. So yes the music 🎶 industry is going down in hell if you ask me. Especially now that both Micheal and Tony arent with us. I hate to say it but it's FACTS!!
I grew up with Tony Thompson. His mother and my mother are best friends. His mother is also my God Mother. I love him and his family. #RIPLilTony❤ Your storytelling is great and accurate and it made me sad... SN: Russell and his brother Ronald are murderers. Unfortunately my best friend was married to Ronald Neal(Russell Neal's brother) and he killed her...💔 A Lil Fact: Tony Thompson sung at my best friends wedding when she married Ronald. I'm still so heart broken over all of this. It hits different when you know these people.... #RIPBonnie💔
Wow! That's deep!!! I was IN LOVE with him!!! I played that CD so much it caused arguments in college. I saw the documentary about him killing that beautiful woman. This tears my heart all to pieces and I never met any of them. Bless Up! ❤️💛💚
I am so sorry your family lost a beautiful Flower. I watched the documentary on the two brothers and it tore me up. Blessings to you and all affected by that tragic loss.
I knew Tony. I met him at an after-party when they opened for Will Smith in Waco. I know God makes no mistakes but I wish he would have gone to Morehouse college like he wanted to. We talked for a short time when they got their record deal. One day I got home and he had sent me a dozen of red roses. We wrote letters to each other. I was from Media so we were lose in distance. A beautiful soul all the way. My heart still aches for him to this day. Shout out to the mother of his son because she really loved him and was there for him. She has a beautiful soul too and I send prayers for her whenever I think of him.....
It's ironic, Russel Neal went to Morehouse, and look what still happened to him. These boys were experiencing too much at such a young age. Where were the parents during all of this mess? You shouldn't leave your kids in the hands of the record label to educate them and monitor them daily on the road. Maybe seeing what happened to these individuals, will open the eyes of the parents. Let the kids be kids and not the bread winners of the family.
Hey!! Omg I couldn't have clicked so fast!!! I looove your channel and whether I knew whom the person was or not, I'm quick to watch! Keep going!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏
@@lorrainethomas1984 YES! 👍🏾💯👍🏾 Too bad the younger generation doesn't know what real music is today. 😣 I Don't Know what they call it these days. The music started to get real "ratchet" in the mid to late 90's. I didn't even care for the Sugar Hill Gang when they first came out back in the day when my friends and I were clubbing. Although, that was when rap was a lot cleaner back then. Oops, I think I just told you how old I am! LOL! 😂 They don't even have groups and bands like that anymore. I went to a lot of concerts back then. Today's music industry sucks big time. Tony Thompson may be gone too soon, but, he is most definitely, not forgotten. 🎶🎤🎶 May he R.I.P. Much love. 😘💕😘
By Hearing This My Heart Aches For The Strength Of Broderick Pooch Clark Car Accident.. And Yesterday I Didn't Know Pooch Died Last April Of 2022.. May His Family And Close Ones Hang On 🕊️🕊️.. R.I.P. Tony Thompson And Broderick P. Clark 🙏🙏.
Great Story telling my brother, HI Five was definitely one of my top R&B groups growing up in the 90's. RIP to the members who passed away in the group. 🙏🏽.. I'm still listening to them in 2023!! That's how much of an impact they had on me. God bless their families also.
Not only Russell, but also Russell 's brother murdered his wife. EXTREMELY SAD. RIP to Tonyand Pooh. Tfs this story very talented group and I still enjoy their music 🎶
Hi-5 changing management teams was the worst thing they could have done. It was the beginning of the group's curse. Jonathan Kinloch was an enabler who let the group do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
But their original management was ripping them off big time. They were signed to a production contract- just like New Edition was at MCA Records before they bought their way out of that deal, which is nothing more than legalized slavery. The original management, who was working for Hi-Five, got all of their money before them and gave them an allowance while pocketing the rest. A damned if they did, damned if they didn't scenario.
@@IceManLikeGervin The only thing I heard about Vincent Bell and Robert Ford was that they were too strict. They were the ones that turned down one of those major tours because HI-5 were underage at that time.
Sexsational was a really good album and it’s sad that it basically went unnoticed, Tony had a real distinct voice and it’s sad that he didn’t get the recognition he deserved and went out the way he did. RIP Tony
Just got finished listening to Quality Time and found your channel. This was one of my favorite boy band groups. May Tony Thompson forever Rest in Peace. 🙏🏾
I literally Binge watch this channel I love everything about your channel!!! I was so Ecstatic to see you uploaded a new video 🥰🥰🥰🥰!!! So thorough and passionate to get their stories out!
And something else, Giant's R&B division was horrible at that point because they had people involved that didn't know what they were doing. Tara Kemp left because they wanted her sound to be more gangsta, tried to turn Color Me Badd into a pop group when their second album dropped, Jade was on the verge of breaking up, POV never really had an impact, Good 2 Go didn't have any legs, and Christopher Williams was completely washed.
@@73lyfe96 Almost forgot about Miki Howard. By the time she got there, she was damaged goods. She went through the same situation with Giant as she did when she was on Atlantic. Also forgot about Danny Madden and F.S. Effect.
This is the first time I ever heard Jive records wanted to renegotiate contracts with artists because usually they don't, so that shows HI FIVE was special, especially Tony Thompson. I believe the drug use interfered of the group not using wise decisions to continue relationship with Jive Records and manager. It's sad all around.😞
Giant Records had a lot of great acts on there like Miki Howard, Lord Finesse, Tony Thompson of Hi-Five, Tara Kemp, Color Me Badd, Jade, Jeremy Jordan, Letters to Cleo, Big Mountain, Ahmad Lewis, MC Hammer, Sway & King Tech, rapper Pudgee, etc.!!
Man I would absolutely love to see a Hi Five movie too!!💯❤️🔥 Great as always my friend, you really do an amazing and awesome job on your documentaries. 💪🏾I appreciate you. ❤️
Man I’m a big hi five fan and this documentary was so well put together. I thought I knew everything about them but I learned a lot of new facts from this documentary. Well done! Lord please bless and cover the families of Pooh, Treston , Marcus , Shannon, Russell, Toriano, the goat Tony Thompson and all the members of hi five. ❤ wow! What a story of triumph and tragedy 😢. God bless them all. Their music is timeless and will live on .
What about Dino's from H-Town? He did a music video that actually PRE-enacted his future death and recorded a song about his funeral sometime before dying in a freak car accident.
I remember reading A magazine about his death back then, very sad! Sad then sad now! It’s unfortunate Black groups really don’t get the money they deserve and is owed.
Damn literally one of my fav groups of all time. Them and Dru Hill. This was a really good video. Ima check out Tony’s solo album. I never heard of it prob because the album wasn’t pushed. Thanks for the video. I was so sad to hear of Tony’s Addiction and how Pooh was paralyzed. The group definitely earned their place in RnB history. ♥️
Such a talented group of very young singers, as I have stated many comments about this particular group in the past on the this Channel, their short Journey through this business was beyond one of the most Tragic for such a young group,😔lead singer Tony Thompson's vocals were so amazing, truly GIFTED for such a young Teen, however what was even more saddening 😥 lead vocalist Tony Thompson impregnated a 16y.o. girl, he was also 16yrs.old when this happened,😔, the other tragedies with the other members were beyond words, and as usual these artists always end up being cheated by those who are working with them, Managers, Record Producers, you name it, Royalties never being paid as they should to the Artists, despite 100 of millions of records they may make for these Record companies, 😡 Thompson's passing was beyond comprehension 😢 this is why I don't support young people seeking fame and fortune in such a horrible business, for many it simply destroys your life 😤.
I just finished the video and I wanted to add some information Tony has a son If I remember correctly he was 15 and the mother was 17 when he was born there is a picture of him & his son you can find it by googling it also there is a documentary or small interview about Russell his wife’s family spoke out about the incident I saw it somewhere here on RU-vid years ago
Tony Thompson was not born on 75. I grew up with those guys. I lived in the neighborhood across from Russell Neal. Went t I school with Russell Neal and Marcus Sanders who were 2 years older than me. Tony Thompson was 2 years younger than me he was born on 77. Pooh I really didn't know him. Tristan Kirby was from New York. Toni Thompson died from inhaling freon from out of an air conditioner unit outside of the apartments I stayed in in Waco Texas.
Unconditional Love (Menace lI Society soundtrack) is my favorite song by them then the rest after that. These were the days in high school all this great music 🎶 RIP
WOWWW!!! Ty, I truly adored HI-Five, I love "Can't Wait Another Minute "🎵🎵 Very sad all of the tragic situations, RIHP To the 2 that lost their lives🕯🕊🌹🕯🕊🌹
He signed with bad boy records wow so sad was only 31when he passed away Tony will always be remembered and rip Tony that was my favorite 90 group still is just missing Tony and Pooh still sad Tony was hooked on them drugs I no he was going threw a lot but dang Tony why you had to leave the world so soon for ever hi five
It's Sad That ( JIVE RECORDS ) Didn't Help The Group Hi Five ( 5 ) Just Because They Did Go Silent Gold 🪙 Twice!! Jive RECORDS Could Have Got The Best Producers To Go Into The Studio!! Until They Had A Record Hit Or Two... This Doesn't Make Any Sense. My Heart Just Hurt For For All Of Them.. DAM!! Russell Neal... 🙏 🙏. May GOD Take You Into Heaven Gate..
Toriano from Oklahoma City he went to Douglas high school with my Foster sister's my mom had a couple years back in the nineties And he used to talk to one of them
