I got allocated Castle but they only have self catered accommodation near Hild Bede left now and I'm worried that it won't feel as if I'm part of college because I'll be living 10 minutes away from castle itself while paying more for the accommodation than I wanted to

I’m sure you’ll still feel part of the college because there’ll be others from castle in the same situation. There’s a lot more to it rather than just living spaces, like societies, formals, balls etc. But also it depends where you make your friends and that’s what is important. There’s not much price variation in Durham colleges, however if where you are is self catered, the price would be a lot less than if you were in Castle accommodation in the city, though I’m not sure I fully understand because I never knew there was Castle accommodation outside the Bailey (I don’t know anyone in castle that’s why), so I may have misunderstood and you may be in private halls? I’m not sure, anyway whatever it is I’m sure you can still feel part of the college, it’s common for a lot of the Bailey colleges to have separate accommodation elsewhere in the city. I know that’s not the most helpful advice but hope it’s eased your worries just a little bit x

Hi Megan - which are the more down to earth colleges? Is it most likely that I will be reallocated whichever I choose anyway? I am thinking of the Parsons Field site of St Cuths because it is self catering. Thanks for your videos - so helpful.

I think they're all pretty down to earth, there's a mix in them all. Though Hatfield and Castle do have reputations for not being down to earth; everyone I've met from them has been lovely but there is a reputation. Most of the time you don't get reallocated, unless you go for quite a popular college like Mary's or Castle, in my experience they get the most reallocations. Yeah I think Cuth's sounds nice! I'm planning a college 101 video this week which should be helpful, but if you don't get chance to watch that I hope this has helped, if it hasn't feel free to DM me any questions on Insta xx
