Fun Fact! The creator of Pokemon, Satoshi Tajiri, was actually inspired to make the games because he loved catching bugs growing up. So even if you haven’t played the games you still have that connection with them!
Yes! Also the original concept of Pokemon was a game about collecting bugs in capsules. People in Japan at the time collected beetles and praying mantises and put them in cages to fight. Tajiri made the game in protest of this practice.
i think it's great that kids enjoy catching bugs; but they also need to be taught how to be kind to them. when i was young my cousins would catch bugs and torment them... as a kid i didn't know better and just laughed along. if you know a kid and you encounter nature with them, take a sec to guide them to be kind to all creatures!
@@tankerock and im guessing the shrimp Tiger is a small tiger, the Frog Leopard can really jump, the Cat Bear doesn't roar but meows, A Seal Elephant can balance balls on his trunk.
Maya is literally my exposure therapy for bugs. They creeped me out a lot until recently, but they are SOOO interesting to me now, I love learning about them and I'm definitely less scared of them now hihi
if bugs creep you out, just remember that you're literally a thousand times larger than them and they are actually 1,000x more terrified of you. most bugs wanna gtfo away from humans actually.
same !! especially with the scorpions, puppy and tortellini, bc i live in texas and have been stung by scorpions enough times to be utterly petrified of them. seeing her show the little guys makes me remember that they are in fact just little guys
@@alveolateAs someone who used to be very afraid of bugs, and still doesn't like them much (these days I just don't like the ones that buzz) people used to tell me this all the time and it was so annoying. Nobody is scared of bugs because they are afraid of them hurting you or attacking you (usually). Also most bugs are NOT scared of you. Depends on the type of bug of course, but most of them aren't even smart enough to be scared. The ones that run away evolved to hide whenever they see anything, regardless of whether it's human or not because that's how they avoid predators. Usually it's the ones that don't fly because they are easy targets for birds and stuff. Some bugs will actively attack because that's how they get food (ie certain types of flies or mosquitoes) but even then it's not like I'm afraid they're gonna hurt me...
same, used to be terrified of them now I feel like their best friend (still haven't had to chance to see any in-person and test my comfortability but one day! (had to live with roaches for a year so I'm not complaining as I don't go outside or far from the house often xD
Same! Last year I never would have guessed I’d be researching how to make gardens pollinator friendly as much as I am currently. Getting excited to take pictures of bugs. Certain bugs inside my house still scare me though lol. Why can’t they stay outside, it’s much more interesting out there! 😅
Jumping spiders are fucking awesome. There were a bunch at this one place I lived and they'd walk into my hand and sometimes they'd sit next to me on this bit of stone and reach a leg out and I'd reach a finger out to touch and they'd just high five me for like 15 seconds.
i like when people like this who take care of all the bigger species of animals but still appreciates the small world of bugs too, its a sign humility that i can appreciate
i’ve been teaching my gen alpha family about bugs being okay outside, because that’s their home, and the inside is our home. they took to it pretty quick. smart kids.
ever since i started watching maya, i have gained a new appreciation for bugs. watching these streams have really helped me become less scared of them :)
Hey some people have phobias they can't control that I have what I can only describe as a phobia of loudly-buzzing insects (they just make me panic) and also arachnophobia (unless they're lil bitty spiders then I'll just ignore or relocate them myself)
People who kill every single bug and say "I hAvE a PhObIa" never grew up past the age of 6 and that's a fact. I'm understanding of most phobias but when it comes to bugs it's just...ridiculous, there are so few insects that can actually do you any meaningful harm.
@@hydrophobicwater5843 It's not ridiculous nor being unable to "gRoW UP pAsT ThE aGe oF 6", it's irrational which is both very different and also the reason why it's called a phobia, otherwise it would be a reasonable fear, phobias are inherently irrational and so is the reaction, people with phobias of things like insects or spiders don't kill them cause they are simply scared of being harmed, it's cause it triggers their fight or flight instinct and so they will either jump tf away, get paralyzed or kill them. That's also why there's people with phobias of things that don't even have a realistic chance of being harmful, like clowns. Calling it ridiculous just cause you don't have it it's like calling someone who has depression ridiculous for "being sad", that's what is actually ridiculous.
As someone who grew up in the English countryside, I've loved this sort of thing since I was a kid. I remember me & my friends used to create "bug hotels" using cut grass to make a floor plan & daisy's to decorate etc. Now whenever someone in the house is scared of a spider or other bug they always call me to carry it out instead of just killing it😁💚
At the end where you were thankful that so many people were in the stream and cared for bugs: Yes, that is because of you. You are advocating so incredibly wholesome for them that you influenced us to love bugs. Whenever you are not sure if you are doing enough or if it is worth it: Thousands of people cheering to cute Barbara is your merit and only yours! Much love!
I have SEVERE entomophobia and arachnophobia (to the point of freezing and losing breath and shaking, it's really bad) and yesterday I took all my little courage and went to fix my partner's trike at the local urban halt (cool little park/spot in my village next to the river where they put a bike repair station with tools and everything, available to the public 24/7) even if it was FULL of spider webs and I'm just so thankful I found Maya, because these videos DEFINITELY helped me be less afraid and miserable everytime I even see an insect or spider. I have had maaany traumatic experiences with bugs, and this is slowly helping me recover from it and made my quality of life already much better. Thank you so much ❤
Omg this video is literally my whole childhood I always loved to go outside and watch butterflies bugs and birds especially spiders and roly polys it was so fun this video brings back so many memories of me as a child in the summer times
Yesterday, I walked into my apartment and found a cricket on the floor. I was determined to take him out of my apartment and let him live. It took a while, but I caught the cricket and released it, using the tried and true paper+bowl method, but instead of a bowl I used a container with holes on the top. Normalize taking the bugs out of your house and releasing them instead of squishing them.
Hello. A few days ago I tried to escort a centipede out of my bedroom, and I think I ripped one of it's legs off. I felt sad, and in the end it disappeared under my bed, so all my efforts were for nothing. I still slept well. I like to think that it crawled down my throat and we achieved some sort of symbiosis. PS: I wish I had more legs
Maya u have transformed me into a non bug hater, I was so scared of them and now they are maybe starting to get cute. I need more time to process flies and beetles tho those mf’ers are creepy
lowkey kinda bothered by chatters that purposefully say mean things about these creatures that maya clearly love so much. like she’s obsessed with spiders and it seems intentionally mean to me to say shit like they’re the worst or you wanna kill them
Maya, I live in an old house with lots of cracks and crannys, so I am no stranger to bugs. Since watching your content I now catch and release the majority of bugs I find in my house, because they’re just little guys doing their jobs! Still working on being okay with bigger spiders, but I’ll get there. Thank you for helping me change my attitude!
not lying, since i've discovered your channel, i became way less scared of bug. it starts to freak out my family a little bit last time i was with my nephews at my father's place, and we saw a spider, and everybody was like "omg a giant spider" and stepped back and i was going closer like "oouuuuhhh spidey pretty" and everybody thought that was weird a little bit.
big ups to the editor of course maya as well as usual but Idk if they changed or what but these edits are killer. all the meme additions really enhance it via youtube. Keep it up yall!
I watched this stream and I can’t get enough of Maya so stoked on bugs. Makes me so happy to see her so happy. 😄 It’s helping me be less afraid and I’ve been trying to introduce my kids to the bugs we see in everyday life so they are less afraid. ❤
Yay! Maya giving love to our insectoid and buggy friends makes me happy. I am sad though that she didn't find a jumping spider, because jumping spiders are truly amazing.
First i hated bugs. Especially mosquitos. And i still hate them. Now i have my spiders friends in the upper corner of my room to protect me from them. SPOODERS 🕷️ are the best guardians.
The creator of Pokemon got the idea for the game from his childhood catching bugs. Would be cool to see you stream a pokemon game where you only use bug types.
honestly I think people are interested in these stream and this content because of who is presenting, not in s impy way. but people like you and lidnsey nikole are great entertaining presenters. you two make it fun and less serious sounding than pretty much anyone else.
Again, thank you so much for showing the public how cool and diverse insects can be! Invert conservation needs all the help we can get :) Thank you! - friendly neighborhood entomologist
I had a bug catching kit when i was a kid! I went around and caught as many spiders as possible without supervision. In hindsight it was kinda crazy i was allowed to do that since i live in Australia and my backyard was infested with funnel webs and redbacks. Australia life i guess.
