As a New Zealander, I can safely say that the "kiwi bird" is closely related "koala bear". In that there's no such thing. Though at least the kiwi actually Is a bird, the koala isn't a bear at all. Meanwhile, there's no such fruit as the 'kiwi' in New Zealand English, it's a kiwifruit. Though (supposedly) thanks to US military cargo handling systems labeling their crates "K1W1", calling the fruit a "kiwi" Is common in other dialects, however irritating that may be. (I mean, it's not like it wasn't already the word for the bird, the boot polish, and people/things from/to do with New Zealand (hence why it appears in "kiwifruit"), clearly it needs even more barely related meanings :p)

@@sukanya90 Also, tbf we only misidentify the birbs cuz the ones we choose are amusing. Owls are already very memeable birds. Can't move their giant eyes so they mode their necks instead, their legs are much longer than you'd think, their ears are rather oddly placed, baby owls heads are so big they can't stand up when sleeping so they sleep facedown, etc.
