the "highway to hell" album is what propelled them to global status. sadly it was Bon's last album. Bon had finally hit the big time, as did AC/DC, but for Bon, it was short lived. the irony to me is.... because of Bon's passing, and the subsequent release of the "back in black" album in memory and honor of him, AC/DC became legends! well done Bon!

That is Angus .. A very young Angus! ... Scottish-born Angus and older brother Malcolm Young formed AC/DC in the 'Land down under' way back in 1973. A guy by the name of Dave Evens was the bands singer in the beginning. It wasn't until 1975 that Bon Scott took over as lead vocals and recorded AC/DC's debut album .. #High Voltage .. that same year. Bon Scott is credited with 4 studio albums under his belt before his untimely death in February 1980. After a night out drinking, Scott was being driven home by good friend {who was also out drinking w/Scott that night} Allistar Kinnear. Before arriving home, Kinnear noticed Scott had fallen asleep in the car. He had called another friend to help put the car seat down so Bon could sleep more comfortably on his back. By morning, Scott was still 'sleeping' when his friend went to check on him. Getting no response and panicked, he took Scott to the hospital and learned that he had already died. Cause of death was acute alcohol poisoning/asphyxiation {on his own vomit}. Bon Scott was only 34 y/o. Brian Johnson came in as Scott's replacement soon after and recorded #Back in Black which sold over 10 million copies. Long time producer and older brother George Young passed away on October 22, 2017 We, the fans and the band also lost older brother and AC/DC co-founder/rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young from complications of dementia on November 18, 2017. Malcolm was 64. Malcolm's nephew Steven Young has filled in as rhythm guitar before and after his uncle's passing.

If you got the chops do the song “Let There Be Rock” from the River Plate concert December 2009. Angus does damn near 16 minutes of kicking ass guitar work and a solo in the air. Granted it is a longer video than most to get by the censors but the time flys and it’s probably their greatest performance of all time. You won’t be disappointed!!!! Just saying!!!! So says Austin Tx. 🎸🎸🎸🎸😍😍😍🥳🥳😎🍸

YES!!!! Even though it's not Bon performing his song... Brian does it COMPLETE justice every single time he performs it! So... he needs to see the River Plate '09 performance!!! Sincerely, Angus is the heart and soul of AC/DC and the '09 River Plate performance highlights that perfectly! While Brians vocals are on point... Angus' long-azz solo at River Plate, and the crowd's reaction to it is proof that Angus is the heart and soul of AC/DC!!!🥰🥰🥰 It's a long solo... but well worth it!!!! I'm sure Bon was smiling in heaven.😊

At this time, they were not yet famous-// they were making a name for themselves as a hard driving touring band. They were ahead of their time and they were also outside of what was mainstream at that time- they were a band from Australia-- hitting the road touring looking for their big break. This album is a masterpiece-- but most of their fans didn’t “discover” it until after they did hit it big with their Highway to Hell and Back in Black albums. Great reaction video

Try for "It's a Long way to the Top," on the back of a flat bed truck driving down a street in Melbourne Victoria Australia. When Bon Scott juumped down, he broke his foot, they had to finish the next day sans costumes. Angus started at age 16, still in school uniform, no time to change. His sister had a sewing machine, with AC/DC power on the back label. She made him uniforms for on stage. Angus came home from school one day, to police in the front yard, stopping him going in, not believing he lived there. Some Easybeats fan-girls had found out the Young boys lived there, and Stevie was staying there, so they broke in to the house, So mum had to vouch for her son living in her house to get him inside. His eldest brother George was in The Easybeats, Harry Vanda and George Young went on to write a lot of great music, for a lot of talented people, including Hey, Saint Peter, which they ended up recording themselves. They also wrote, Evie, parts 1, 2 and 3, for the lead singer from the Easybeats, Stevie Wright.

The Let there be rock album was received well and helped to cement their early reputation, they spent more time in the U.K. for greater exposure and their fan base and popularity began to grow steadily over the next couple of albums. The live album If you want blood , you’ve got it, really boosted them and sold really well , then the Highway to hell album broke them wider internationally. Unfortunately Bon died shortly after, the bands profile was definitely still in the ascendancy. The mega success undoubtedly came with Brian at the helm but, it’s anyone’s guess if similar success would’ve been had with Bon. I imagine they would still have been a huge band
@wilks6
@wilks6 Год назад
So, they were breaking world-wide with "Highway To Hell," Bon's last album. Don't worry, they were massive in Australia from their first record. Many international fans grew appreciation of their earlier sound after Back In Black. You mentioned the producers - Harry Vanda & George Young. Harry & George were in a successful Aussie band "The Easybeats" in the 1960's. George is Malcolm & Angus' older brother. As the Easybeats gained success, (in Australia and gradually England & Europe) George bought home guitars for his younger brothers, who spent countless hours practicing & learning. Jeff Apter, who has written a couple of books on the band, tells one story: "The older brothers would play a song on a record or the radio, like Chuck Berry or The Beatles etc, and say to Angus 'play that.' Angus would go & practice it for 15, 20 minutes, then come back and play it. Perfect. Note for note." After The Easybeats broke up, Harry & George went on to produce & support many brilliant Australian rock bands, and wrote heaps of great songs for other artists, Australian & international. They wrote "Walking In The Rain," a huge hit for Grace Jones. They also formed their own band "Flash & The Pan" to perform some of the vast catalogue of songs which they hadn't passed on to other acts. They are referenced in the Dire Straits hit "Sultans Of Swing," ("check out guitar George..." & "Harry doesn't mind....")

Never take any notice of sales. Sales are driven by marketing, and controlled by business suits who know nothing about blues or rock music. Most suits in the music industry know that the biggest market is young girls from about 8 yo to 14 yo. That is the only target for most record labels and all top 40 radio stations..... I did say Top 40 radio stations, not rock , blues, jazz , classical or R n B. In every neighbourhood throughout the world it is the most popular radio station that determines record sales, not the music.

I don't really remember, but "Highway To Hell", the album before "Back In Black", should've been what really put them on the "pop" map? But what you need to remember is that Mtv & music videos didn't exist till '82(?), let alone the internet or satellite radio. & most cities only had one Rock station. You had to be in the know & buy the albums if you wanted to hear them, so not much AC/DC played to push them up the U.S. charts till probably singles like "Highway To Hell" was sent out by their record company & got put on by a dj who liked it? By the time "Back In Black" came out, people were waiting for it, & the hit single "You Shook Me All Night Long", which I personally never need to hear again as long as I live😅, took them to the next level & they became global superstars, & the rest is history! See ya! 🤘🌎❤

Going back for this one. Good for you! Bon was a great front man. There was a different tone in AC/DC pre-Brian that easily be appreciated. Controversial? Not that I recall, but rock is SUPPOSED to raise the hackles. Yes, Angus is like that throughout an entire concert, but frequently way more frantic. Check out the live videos if you can. Their getting old. Too bad you may never get to actually see them live. A great show every time I've gone. The origin of this kind of rock is based on blues. Brian stepped in & has done a phenomenal job as his own front man, but the best AC/DC albums were with Bon, with the possible exception of "Back In Black", which was mostly written, from what I understand, before Brian came into the studio & started writing. Then the follow-up, "For Those About To Rock", came out & it was a strong album, but not quite as good. Then after that they basically had two or three decent songs per album & the rest filler! But they were always a reliable good concert cause you knew they'd play two or three new songs from their latest album, which nobody really cared to hear, & the rest would be all the old jam! 🤘🌎❤

I think they were too young as a band. AC/DC formed in 1973. Founding members Angus and big brother Malcolm were 18 & 20 yrs old. Not sure of where the original drummer or bass guitarist came from but one night their original lead singer didn't show up. So they recruited their limo driver, Bon Scott. Their first 2 albums were Australian releases only. Then they were paying dues as opening act for bigger bands. Strangely Bon returned from a trip to England and told the rest of the band if anything ever happened to him call this guy Brian Johnson. He's good, he'll do good with you guys. He's the Geordies singer right now.

Bon Scott saw Brian Johnson in a small venue and told Angus if he ever quit the band he wanted Brian to take his place. Yep that was Angus. As far as I can remember the older folks never listened, and the younger generation loved it! Don't remember any controversy. Only Bon Scott can play bagpipes in a rock band and make it sound awesome. "It's a long way to the top"

They were a rising Rock group with Bon and on the verge of being super huge when Bon died...Brian took the baton and he finished ACDC rise. They started huge in Australia and were beginning to break thru in the USA--in 1977 they were still in their rising phase and had a cult following...it took a few years to totally break thru in the USA.

ACDC is the only Rock band on the planet where most of the focus of any video is on the guitar player, not thw singer, he's the bomb.. You mentioned George Young, the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young. He was a guitarist in Aussie Rock band, the Easybeats which recorded hit FRIDAY ON MY MIND, check that song out, its great!

Back then there were no “Karens” 😂 it wasn’t controversial. People didn’t take everything so seriously.
