I am 60 years old and after 3 years of complaining about neck pain after having a stroke I have myelopathy. My primary care doctor kept saying it was neuropathy from being a diabetic. I felt some else was wrong and I was right. I went to an orthopedic surgeon and he ordered an MRI. I have been a nervous wreck since he told me that I was going to need surgery and referred me to a Neurosurgeon. Today after viewing your videos I am more at ease now. Thank you so much for sharing your surgery journey.
I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make this. I have an apt. Day after tomorrow with the surgeon and Im terrified. But as you know the nerve pain is unbearable. I can't live like this anymore but the thought of something going wrong is almost as bad as this pain! Knowing that you made it through helps! Ill keep following your recovery! God bless you and again thank you for helping others like me.
Totally understand being worried I was a nervous wreck leading up to surgery but once I got in the hospital it kinda went away really (the nervousness) ..... but that pain is something noone can live with and noone should have to deal with. . Hope you get the relief you need SOON! ....
I just had my ortho appt today and I’m scheduled for Kan 2nd 2024 for surgery. Thank you for making these videos, this is relieving some stress for sure.
Had surgery last Tuesday Jan 9th 2024 the shoulder pain has been the worst for me!! Today was the first day that I actually felt like I was almost back to normal!! Thanks for the video it helped me a lot.
Thanks so much for these videos! I have been dealing with c4/5 and c5/6 issues and have been advised to get the surgery for almost a year now. The fear is real, just like the symptoms 🥴 the shooting pain and numbness is scary. Thanks again for these and God bless
Hi, this is Rubye and I wanted you to know that I got thru the surgery okay! I had to ck in earlier than norm due to blood clots. They had to insert a filter before the surgery so I would not be worried abt clotting! The insertion of filter Hurt like hell too. The ACDF went well and the drs were awesome about seeing me every day while I was hospitalized. Thank you so much for being there for me! Bless you!
I'm 10 days post-op from c4-c5-c6-c7 fusion and improving everyday. All my previous nerve pain is gone completely thank God. Having the same light pain behind the neck you describe and seems to be common due to the increased spine length? Still having some issues swallowing but that is improving daily too. Really appreciate you sharing your experiences with us, it has really encouraged me. Thanks so much and God bless you.
I'm not scared anymore, really thanks for sharing. I definitely panicked when the surgeon told me he'll be pushing my vocal cords to the side, I lost it aaaaand here I am lool not scared one bit, thanks too you! Alsooo thanks for the pillow tips, I didn't even think about it, definitely buying that before i go into surgery. I'm feeling ready for this already 😊
No problem and totally understandable because when they explained that part to me I lost it inside..... hope you have a successful procedure and a speedy recovery as well 🙏
6 yrs it took to get a diagnosis !! 😳😭 I had an accident in July 2017 ~ left shoulder ~ ripped rotator cuff and bicep muscle off the bone 😫 2 shoulder surgeries in 2018 last was a RTSR. Never have I been out of excruciating pain 😭 I was all ready on Disability for my right shoulder. Here .. I demanded an MRI of neck in June 2023 - long story but my Neck is a mess !! Gotta have this surgery ASAP. Left upper arm numb & excruciating pain & under my arm. I’ve been in bed most all day everyday for years !!! I’m a widow w no children & live alone. Just lost my best friend, my Precious Mom 18 mo ago 💔 I have to do this alone, looking for help through a patient advocate co. I pretty much went through the 2 shoulder surgeries alone 😔 Thanks for the videos. I seriously want to sue someone for all my suffering nearly 6 yrs !!! NEGLIGENCE MUCH 😤
I hope the surgery gives you the relief you need and sorry tonhear about your mother it definitely sucks having to n go through this type of stuff alone.
Thank you for making this video. I am due to have the exact same surgery and I’m also panicking. I hope I will do as well as you have. You have eased my mine a bit. I needed this. Hope you are still doing well.
Yup doing fine .... bad weather brings aches and pains but other than that I'm great ..... good luck to you and hope you have a successful procedure and a speedy recovery as well 😊
@jeffreyosborne6012 honestly I don't know how long the procedure was bur I was awoke and watching t.v. by 10 a.m. went in about 8 that morning .... no blood transfusion for me
I have all of those symptoms you mentioned! I keep putting it off! I take care of my mom and I don’t want to be a burden to her! she has enough problems with SCD!
Totally understand putting it off in a situation like that ...... hope you get to feeling better I know it's rough looking after someone going through this type of pain
That's exactly why I made them .... hope you can get that anxiety in control because I know how bad it can be especially leading up to a surgery like this .... you got this 👍🏾 and good luck to you as well
@@bankyankinliveWell, to be honest I backed out after seeing some eye-opening complaints/comments online about the neurosurgeon. I decided to get 2nd an 3rd opinion to feel more confident. They both thought his surgical treatment plan was too much for someone with mostly degenerative problems. (ACDF C3-4 and C6-7, laminectomy/foraminotomy C3-4, C4-5)) Fast forward and I'm currently about to reconsider ACDF again because the multitude of cervical facet injections, PT and epidural injections are not working. I don't want to try nerve ablations if they don't last very long. I hope to find out something after my shoulder MRI this week and CT myelogram next week. We shall see what all nerves are really angry on those tests. Thanks for asking. Take care
@Sandra Messer sorry to hear you're still having issues .. . Well hopefully you will find out what's all going on and finally get the relief you need .... good luck 👍🏾
How it's going? I had a neck injury which led to some atrophy and nerve damage on my right side. Dealt with pain for years but put off surgery. Pain somewhat eventually settled after 10 years . Recently reinjured myself. now I'm having pain on the left side. I'm 44. Trying to avoid surgery. But watching your video is giving me confidence that surgery could make me somewhat normal again if I cant heal myself.
All I remember her saying is that she couldn't eat solid food for a while she had to eat puree style food but more like smoothie in her case ..... I think she said for 2 weeks if I'm not mistaken
Not sure what you mean by ROM .... .. and by downtime I was fine right after just had restrictions like no bending down no lifting over 5lb etc.... if you mean work I've been out of work for 3 months but I think my total time will be 4 months but that's because of my type of work I do ... im sure if I had a desk job I could've went back to work alot sooner
Hey I do have an update to this question and I hope you see this ..... I have zero issues looking up or down like a chin tuck so to say and I can move my head like in a circular motion with zero issues however I am noticing when lean my head like ear to shoulder I feel resistance and slight pain but I'm thinking it is more of a muscle thing and not a cervical issue
Feel good the only issue I'm having is when I sit in a chair for a long time it seems like my arm starts to hurt.... im making a video about that soon ..... also the chair sitting is accompanied by me moving some items as well for my wife's business but nothing seriously heavy but other than that I'm fine just still feel sore in my trapezoid are like upper back shoulder blade area .... and my incision is tender from time to time but nothing to cause concern
One month until surgery. I've moved from arms and hands to some pins and needles in my face now. I have the 6pcs wedge pillows and it was uncomfortable before surgery so I'm hoping post op it will feel better. This tingling and numbness and pain is ridiculous.
Face issues thats a first I heard that one .... sorry you're experiencing that man .... I couldn't have imagined using the pillow before surgery but for me it has been very beneficial afterwards ... maybe you will like it maybe you won't but definitely do whatever suits your comfort ..... and yes that pins and needles feeling is definitely NO JOKE .... hope you get the relief you need with surgery and hope you have a successful procedure and a speedy recovery as well
That can vary but mine lingered around for quite awhile and even to this day I am still slightly stiff in that same area when I wake up or if I have my neck/head in an upward position like changing a light bulb or down like looking at my phone for too long its nothing serious but its noticeable ...... I wanna say maybe about 2 months before i noticed some improvement in that area
I dont have the box anymore its on the video I think .... the pillow can be made into a few different shapes/styles it helped me out alot from sleeping to sitting up on the couch to laying on the floor
At about 4 a.m. this same morning I woke up and I could actually feel a "bump" in my throat when trying to swallow normally... not when eating or drinking just a normal saliva swallow..... doesn't hurt its not difficult to swallow but damnit it does feel weird
@@BloFrm318 really didn't have a problem swallowing.... I wasn't eating regular food I would normally eat I was eating like mashed potatoes the whipped kind and puree minced up foods and water
My swallowing better now bro I’m seeing how blessed I am a lot of ppl with this injury don’t walk again I’m thanking god everyday and embracing everyday
I found out yesterday that I need surgery on C4-C6. Bone grafts and a plate. I have cord damage at C2ish level but it's too late to do anything about it. I'm old, almost 64, so hey, why worry about it? Things happen. I should be nervous but after 4 surgeries for cancer and related issues in the last year, I'm an old hat at knowing what to expect, plus the fact that I'm a stubborn ol' SOB. I'm not going to let this get me down without a fight. Thanks for the video and Godspeed my friend.
@holliem8588 sorry to hear that but you're not a big baby definitely somethings wrong and nothing wrong with having issues .... everyone's bodybis different I hope you get relief soon and don't have to go back for any type of surgery 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
