Poor Apollo can't catch a break in having something terrible happen to those he's close too. First with Lamiroir (despite not even knowing she was his mother, but still felt some connection to her) got shot, lost her sight and her memories and led to plenty more trouble for both the troupe and to Phoenix. In Dual Destinies his best friend was murdered and he was struggling with the idea that it might have been Athena who killed him. Now we learn that his father died in a fire during an assassination attempt that he had been unfortunate to get caught in. Plus, he's already had to defend Trucy (his half sister) against his step brother and now he's about to go to trial to defend his step father against his step brother. It's still a miracle he hasn't been accused of murder yet.

Yes, the stabbed Picture of Queen Ga'ran was already there the first time we came here. We even saw the moment Datz threw the knife into it in a cutscene after the first case, where Datz informs Dhurke about Phoenix' trial. Including a fly flying away from it, confirming Datz' statement!^^

That's a tragic story with Apollo's father, no wonder Dhurke felt so responsible for him.

Apollo's relationship with Dhurke went from being very close in his childhood, to feeling abandoned and unloved in his adulthood, to turning around and gaining a deep respect and growing regret for his distrust in this case. His relationship with Phoenix has been an absolute rollercoaster of hero-worship, disillusionment, gradually-repaired respect, friendship, and disillusionment all over again. His time with Kristoph is a similar, but less-complicated mess. And he never even knew his birth father, who died before he was old enough to even form memories. This series really loves to play with Apollo's image of his father figures and role models. No wonder he has such a chip on his shoulder.

Apparently Datz was willing to throw a whole ass knife at a fly, but not at the huge spider in the background. That can only mean: the spider is also a member of the Defiant Dragons. They have a very diverse membership. :)

I heard everyone bashing on this game for massive retcon of apollos backstory... But i love it. Its genuinely so touching how he has an actual legacy and family, and actually considered dhurke his dad! He has history to follow!! An agency to inherit!!

I guess it shows that, even when Apollo was going totally rogue in the last game, he was still thinking of Dhurke deep down.

Datz may seem like an unreliable troublemaker, but I have the feeling Dhurke wouldn’t have made him his second-in-command without good reason. He clearly has talents and skills that are masked by his goofy attitude. It’s nice that Ahlbi wants to do his part, but his curiosity really could land him in big trouble. It almost got him found guilty of murder, after all. It’s at times like this, when Apollo’s getting his backstory expanded, that many of us wish Phoenix didn’t feel he needed to hold back on telling him the secret he’s been keeping since the first game of the Apollo trilogy. Still, it’s sweet that Dhurke felt duty-bound to look after Apollo after Jove’s tragic death.

Datz gives off the vaneer of a toughened rebel but inside, he’s the goofiest guy around. He doesn’t cause trouble, he gets himself into trouble.

Let me point out that Apollo had a very interesting life when you add his friendship with Clay Terran in the orphanage in Japanifornia. People keep saying that his backstory makes no sense but it's not like he hadn't years to deal with growing up.

I thought we'd be at the trial by now! I knew this case is long but wow it's taking its time Rightly so, to me this is some of the best that Ace Attorney has to offer

I hope you play the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, once you're finished with this game. It's probably one of my favourite games of the AA franchise.

Fun fact: The cutscene at the end of Case 1 shows Datz throwing the knife at the queen's picture. If you look closely, you can actually see the fly he was trying to hit, flying away unharmed.

I’m confused how Datz made it to Khura’in in time to have that moment with Ahlbi. He should have been in the States with everyone else and arrived around the same time they did.

This conversation about Dhurke is one of the best ones in the series. Yeah, the foreshadowing is very obvious, but the feels are at an all time high. You really sympathize with both parties, but you understand Apollo acting like a jerk since Dhurke promised to come back and he never did. And you understand where Dhurke is coming from because he’s trying to right the wrongs of crimes that happened over 20 years ago.

Okay, now I know something's up: The photo is not that dark in other playthroughs of the 3DS version. Between this and the tomb, I think something's wrong.

in the original AA4 script, it's stated that apollo's father "died in an accident on stage," with the implication that he was a fellow magician with thalasa. in the apollo justice trilogy collection, this line is changed to "apparently, he died during some gig". iirc this is the only explicit retcon from what shu takumi originally wrote.
