Carbonation activates TRPA1 receptors, which are also activated by spicy mustard and garlic. The normal "spicy" sensation occurs when capsaicin, derived from peppers, binds to a *different* receptor called TRPV1. Although they're both described as "spicy," they're different sensations. Also, soda is NOT JUICE!

Objection!!! Juice is a drink of liquid fruits and vegetables, or really any liquid form of a substance. Soda may still remain as soda with just sugar and carbonated water. There may be fruit flavored soda and soda may be considered spicy, but soda is not juice.
