Let's face it. Tommy has very thick skin and giant balls to keep playing the space man year after year. He even gets shit from Ace himself but he gets suited up for every show and puts his heart into it. Im not saying he's better than Ace but at least acknowledge Tommy for being a man and caring the torch despite the shade he gets.
*Jeffery* true dat, Tribute bands that dress and sound like the groups they are emulating due so out of love and respect for the original group they are not trying to be that group. Tommy was in a tribute band in the 80's and now he is playing in the band he was emulating. Tommy is not trying to be Ace but he is trying to be the Spaceman to millions of KISS fans.
Sorry, People see Tommy they think Ace Frehley there's no way around it. They should have given Tommy his own make up so he doesn't have to copy Ace like Vinny.
I don’t know how much Tommy gets paid pr show, but i can say with confidence, that he gets an awfull lot more than me, when I put on my working clothes and get ready for the work of the day. Tommy is hired by Gene and Paul to do a job, and he’s about the best employee anyone could want. When KISS was in Denmark during their reunion tour it struck me how much Ace looked like he really didn’t wanted to be there on stage, while the 4-5 times I’ve seen Tommy with KISS here, he had performed to top grades. He did deliver 10/10. Ace? Well, we haven’t seen much of him here in Europe the last 15 years.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 You're Comparing a LEGENDARY ROCK STAR to a Hired Servant who's playing the guitar parts The Legend wrote. He didn't do All The work that led to selling millions, he jumped in impersonating. Easy Gig that's for sure and I've seen live clips of Tommy not wanting to be on stage either, It's okay for Musicians to have a bad night, especially being away from home.
Tommy shouldn’t get hate. He’s just playing the role that Paul and Gene want him to play. He’s a great guitarist but the fans shouldn’t hate on Tommy himself.
The Old Ace vs Tommy argument again! lol! Both are great guitar players and both have earned there place in KISS and there would be no Kiss without either of them. For Ace being the original guy and For Tommy saving his ass many times and re teaching him his guitar part's and solo's for the reunion tour back in the 90's and for tommy taking up the mantle when as quit for a second time to keep kiss going and alive for so many years. We should just be thankful for all the great music we have gotten from such a great band and all the member's past and present that have helped keep such a great band a legacy alive!
I don't ever partake in this argument.... but I did want to point out that you just said Kiss would not exist without Tommy Thayer - there's zero truth in that.... the line of guys that would want to take his place is miles long...
@@Adam-wz7pv I don't dis agree there is a line of guys a mile long that would want to replace him as I am pretty sure I said that anybody that got offered a chance to paly with kiss would jump at the chance but he is the one they chose and that was my point. But feel free to dis agree all you like. End of the day it really does not matter what any of us think because the reality is he is the guitar player for them now weather anyone likes it or not.
Finally, someone else that actually gets it! There is no excuse for anyone cutting down Tommy or Eric. Did they replace icons? Yes. Did those icons sabotage themselves? Yes. Peter and Ace did it to themselves. So blame those two if you don't like it. But you should be praising Tommy and Eric for being there longer than the original guys and for being reliable and sober. People need to quit hating and appreciate what Tommy and Eric have given us. And what they have given us is a continuation of the band we all love.
to a point yeah, but not this sloppy-he completely butchered a small part of it. Ace BTW is my fav guitarist but this was a poor clip to assess hs ability gy
It's beyond being part of his style- he has degraded big time.He is my fav and it's tough to admit this but he has gotten horrible consistently- it really bums me out. he wa son fire in the 70's
Tommy is playing on a multimillion dollar stage which has been meticulously sound check in front of a million dollars of sound equipment. Ace was filmed with a cell phone in a bar in front of a decent bar band stack. And Ace still gets that sweet Frehley tone.
Must be hard for Tommy to sit on a thrown that ace built. He will always be a fill in. Ace has inspired more guitarists than Thayer could ever hope to. Space Ace can never be replaced or copied
Tommy Thayer is what you get if you merge Ace Frehley with Bruce Kulick. Just my opinion. Ace is and always will be my hero, Tommy is and amazing guitar player who took the job offered to him and is making the best with that…
Remember Ace never took guitar lessons but Tommy Did EDIT: this isn’t me saying ones better than the other, I’m just stating facts and personally I’m an Ace fan and prefer his playing to Tommy’s but both are incredible and deserve the respect. 🤘
Realmente me encanta Tommy Thayer.. Pero quiero decir que Ace Frehley es un verdadero Dios.. Tiene ese Feelin tan electrizante que lo hace único.. Larga vida a Ace Frehley.
Are we even sure Tommy isn’t playing to a backing track at this point? I mean….it’s a fair question considering the other backing tracks being used. What’s one more? 🤷🏻♂️
Here's a cool idea... Watch the video and turn off the sound and read this while the video rolls.... ready? :::: (Tommy Speaking) I remember as a kid playing guitar and visiting music stores and seeing all these GREAT Guitars on the walls that I could not afford... Many years later as I was bringing Peter Criss from the band KISS Pizza and Water and making sure the guys had what they needed for the show.... I fell in Love with the Les Pauls that ACE Played, and he really was a total pro and a nice guy and I kept telling myself... man... he has the best gig ever. Great Guitars... Great Band... Man I really want that. So I sucked on Paul and Genes testicles and finally got a job...and now my VERY OWN Epiphone!!! YES... I Play it LIVE to all the backing tracks, and I LOVE the fact that I can inspire other fakers out there that really can't play that great...but I stay sober and do what the Bosses (Paul and Gene) Say... and Yes I do donate to charities... But just the One's that Gene and Paul give me a thumbs up to, you know.,, when I am off the tour and can do a little of what I want to when they are not bossing me around. But YES, Thanks to GIBSON for allowing my name on a guitar that might inspire some young person to pick one up and also learn solos from Kiss Albums that I had absolutely nothing to do with. I am glad to have this LEGACY.... Thank You All!!! (especially Gene and Paul... because they gave the OKAY on this)....
Not really, he wrote parts of it and Ace tweaked it to make it feel like a Kiss song, on Gene's words, Bob's version was great and Ace made that version his, and in Ace's words, the original solo sounded too much like a spanish guitar solo so he changed it.
@@petera.michaelsen4657 Yes, Ezrin sang the guitar line and made Ace play it exactly how he sang the lead part. Ezrin came up with that lead guitar solo that is ( in my opinion) their best! Just saw a documentary where Ace himself says " I had nothing to do with writing that song".
@@metalzonemt-2 I didn't see your input there and no wonder !! Your a freakin ghost! I didn't read what you have but I'll bet you and I concur. Ezrin came up with Ace's part singing, and made Ace play it over and over till he got it ! Just heard a tape of them saying that in their own words. Ace had nothing to do with that song. That whole band knew absolutely no music theory until Ezrin got hold of them.
@@petera.michaelsen4657 he tweaked it very very little- all he did is add vibrato. Ezrin wrote it on piano and Ace learned it note for note. Then he added some vibrato an8d laid back a little with it
s hell, but if you are looking for an Ace imitator- there is no better. he nails his stuff. Most people could not tell the difference in a blind test. Only those that are fanatics and have really really studied Ace. People like to go off when I say this but it's true. Whether or not it's cool to impersonate him is another story- but he does it very well
Tommy is a nice guy and technically a better guitarist though he did not write those solos, so Ace has him on that aspect - albeit, ALL Ace solos are great places for new lead players to begin. Ace is not a friendly guy from what I've heard others say, and he has always be sloppy. Saying that is his style is bs. His style is that he took shit for granted, never worked hard, and had substance problems of one form or another. Ace was first, but Tommy and Bruce were key to keeping the band alive a lot longer than Ace.
Tommy was obviously cleaner and better timed and Paul was also better when the harmony came in than the dude playing with Ace. It is what it is. To me Ace, was always way over rated, but he inspired a ton of dudes to pick up the guitar so you can't really not give him the ups he deserves.
Sounded like two guys playing Detroit Rock City to me...Not really a fair comparison though, one guy is 70 with a drug/alcohol eaten brain and the other is playing with a track.
Would love to hear the discussion if it was Gene and Paul instead of Ace & Peter... There was and will only be one Kiss. All the rest are imitations of the original.
@@MrLolzieboy Not really, he wrote parts of it and Ace tweaked it to make it feel like a Kiss song, on Gene's words, Bob's version was great and Ace made that version his, and in Ace's words, the original solo sounded too much like a spanish guitar solo so he changed it.
hmm lets see, a robot playing with no emotion or a guy playing with emotion and skill? Guess I'd take Ace's version over Robot Tommy. Saw Kiss in 09 in Paris and Thayler's so the Ace wannabe. I've seen haemorrhoids with more personality than the wannabe
OH please, a knock off is still a knock off no matter how you serve it up, tommy mimics, ace is real. give me real sugar over artificial sweetener anyday
Tommy is obviously a better technically guitarist than Ace but he does not sound like Ace. Ace has a unique trademark sound As they say, it'sin the hands. Only Ace has ace's hands.
Most people have no clue/idea who Tommy Thayer is (me included). KISS is Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Talent is irrelevant. At the sometime, I really can't tell the difference.
@@vicman-ks7ht Modern Day Delilah is an awesome song...listen to it..Im never gonna convert an Ace Fan..but Listen to it and give you honest opinion..Also the Revenge Album is good one
Ace was never a great guitarist, but he did have a great style. That said, I'll have to choose Thayer here, who's a superior guitarist overall as well, at least as far as technical ability goes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-COZaAyrnI7c.html
Ace lost his magic - Listen to Ace’s cover of Good times bad times. He is amazing as is Matt Starr and anyone else who plays on it. Best version since Led Zep. To start with most drummers get the drum parts wrong but Matt Starr is amazing as is Ace. He definitely still has it.
Actually that day of the show they booked too many bands on that night (Conquest, Angel, Enuff Z’nuff, and Starz) and it was running late and there was a curfew when the show ended. You can tell Ace didn’t want to be there and had to cut his set list short. My buddy met him after show meet & greet.
@@annwilkiemeyer7655 wtf? Get an education..I compliment the Spacenan and still get flack?. Furthermore never once rude trust me i know rude hell I invented that shit... Guess someone woke up & got their guitar strings all up in a rats nest. No one's plucking ur "G" string missy so just move along with all the other groupies and leave this to the pros.
I think Bruce is far better than Tommy, I think Mark St. John was far better than Tommy, I think Vinnie is far better than Tommy, I think Ace is far better than Tommy... because none of them are trying to be someone else
Oh god dont even get me started hate me all you want ace fans but I gotta say when I was teo I new who tommy was not ace I was a biiig fan of tommy and I even went to a concert with my parents when I was 2 and when I was 5 I also went to meet and greets and met toomy not ace
