Acer Aspire 3 SSD Upgrade, Memory Upgrade & Additional Hard Drive 

Took our Aspire 3 to another level, simply purchasing a $30, M.2 2280 256GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal SSD as OS drive. Followed your Win10 USB setup. Allocated the HHD to as additional storage drive. Zips fast and now works like a charm. Love the no frills tech mechanic explanations. Thank you!

The usual straightforward explanation and work in real time. This makes the website superior. For people stating that there is no 2.5" SSD bay, as long as the SATA outlet in on the mobo and an SSD would not be be placed under any necessary screws it might be possible to remove posts and other impediments so that a SATA SSD would lie flat and be secured with double sided tape. Dale might disapprove of "plastic surgery" and if he does he will say so without ambiguity.

I also just replaced my memory with 16gb following your video. Now, I'm going to have to order a SSD and add an additional drive like you did. Many thanks.

Hi, I have an SSD drive to upgrade my Acer Aspire 3 but when opening it up it doesn't have the connector or caddy to hold the 2.5" SSD. There is space for the SSD but no connector - Is it possible to purchase one and if so, where does it connect to?? I have photos of the inside as well

thank you for the detailed guide. i was very worried and unsure what to expect when i open up the laptop. after watching yr video, i was confident enuf to perform the upgrades by getting the right parts. the max ram mine supported was 12gb. so i just got a 8gb crucial 2666 ddr4 ram. so the hdd, my stock was on toshiba mechanical. i changed to crucial ssd. thanks lot!

I have an acer Aspire A315-54 with one slot of ram in the motherboard with 8GB DDR4 in the support website described that the maximum of ram can use is 12GB but when I plugged an 16GB ram stick it worked fine without any lags or problems.

I was also worried for the upgrade . Now i feel like i will be able to upgrade it. Thanks for the video

I have the Aspire 3 A315-56-502L and it seems to be exactly identical to this with the one unfortunate difference I found is that it doesn't come with the 2.5" caddy or sata cable inside it

Just got a new Acer Aspire 3 A315-56-5048 and it does NOT have the HDD caddy and cable. Apparently product policy is getting cheaper too like with other manufacturers.

On laptops with multiple drive options, I personally if doing a clean install would only use the one drive and wait to install the second drive. This way, I wouldn't confuse myself as to which drive is which on the "custom installation" screen of the Windows 10 installer when identifying my drives, especially if each drive is the same capacity. After the clean-install and I run the updates, then I'll install the next drive and add it in via Disk Management.

M.2 ssd upgrade video please

I have the same style laptop. I want to increase my SSD. However, I dont understand what that caddy thing is? If i just want to upgrade my 256 SSD, I dont have to replace the caddy right? I can just swap out mine with "Crucial P5 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Gen 3 x4" without touching the caddy area Also , how many ram slots are in this model? I have 12gb for my laptop but unsure if its dual channel or not

A shame to ACER in my country, which is Brazil. I bought a model A315-42G-R8LU that in the description of the site acer brasil informs that it has to put a hd ssd or common hd, however when opening the notebook to add another ssd sata for my surprise the flat adapter cable and neither the case, as shown in this video, although the model is different. absurd, in addition to the misleading advertising on the acer website in brazil, i will have to spend buying an adapter and a case and worse, i can't find this kit in my country. I always bought acer, but this time, it will be the last.

I have no SATA cable. And i alos have error code of "No Bootabkle device found". Not sure how to proceed. Do I abasultyly need the SATA cable?

which SSD drive did you fit please, my same laptop only had a 1TB sata drive are the card SSD drives better then the sata ones?

Had a problem with my m2 SSD I bought. The model I bought did not include any m2 ssd, but it has a slot for it. So I bought one and attached it. It is not detected by Acer, even in bios. the slot shows empty. With Windows setup, it only detects the current hard drive i have (no ssd). The SSD is functioning as used an m2 sata to usb connector and it is detected in Windows. Tried to test if it is and it is. Just when I use it internally, it doesn't detect. Is there something I missed?

Dumb question: If I have the Aspire 3 (store bought) with Windows 11 already, and I just wanted to add extra ram and ssd would I need to reinstall Windows 11 to make the computer work?

hi. maybe it was better to partition the MVMe drive because usually no one puts 1T on windows drive and also its gonna be a problem to backup files when u need to install a windows again!

I've got an Asus with the Ryzen 5 3500U and Vega 8, and it's such a similar setup to this... 4GB on-board (LPDDR4? don't know frequency) and came with 4GB SODIMM DDR4. I also upgraded to 2666 but don't know if I should have gone with 2400? But more importantly, I convinced a coworker to get an Aspire 3 A315-56-594W for $350... a huge steal! With that being said, I don't know what clock speed she might want for RAM if she upgrades. Won't be used for gaming or anything weird. I thought these i5-1035G1s used 3200MHz LPDDR4. Was there a reason you went with 2666MHz in the SODIMM slot?

Hi, can you help me please? When I boot my computer, which is the same model of the video, I can't access the SETUP anymore, even pressing the f2 key, it just goes to a loop in the acer screen, if I don't press this key, it goes to a screen "boot option restored" where I have "reset system" and "continue boot", the first one reboot the computer and goes to the this same point, and the other one goes to screen it "operating system not found", I don't know what to do anymore, a friend of mine says that maybe resetting the setup removing the battery inside the notebook can resolve the problem of the setup doesn't show. hei there, would like to upgrade my machine before 2021. Model is older, Acer A315-51-331E and has Core i3 inside. My intuition is that by replacing Ram (currently 4GB) with the most I can and replacing HDD (1TB) with SSD 500 gb at least would improve the laptop speed considerably.
