Absolutely awesome review. I can't express how refreshing it is to see a channel that reviews a monitor so thoroughly and provides all of the cold hard numbers we are all looking for. Thanks for the hard work you put into making such a great review! Acer should let you keep the review unit for doing such a great job ;)

The only problem with waiting for another monitor that fixes these small issues is the wait could be years. Imho it just depends on the person, if you should get one or not. I'm not one for being stuck waiting in an endless loop for the next best thing, when it comes to PC hardware at least.
@slaysi
@slaysi 3 года назад
C S lmao at least it’s $1200 in the US, in the UK it’s still £1800 for the X27P and £2200 for PG27UQ
@TheMaw365
@TheMaw365 3 года назад
@@slaysi The monitors are end of life, they aren't manufacturing them anymore. It's actually fairly difficult to buy them. Rarity and lack of competition is keeping the price high here. I'm sure other places with lower prices still have decent stock.
@slaysi
@slaysi 3 года назад
TheMaw365 I picked up an X27P for £1779 and it’s the best thing I’ve ever used, hdr just looks amazing and I have no defects with the monitor at all. The fan is also silent unless I turn everything off but it goes off after 10 minutes every time.
@twistwist777

And if you wait for the price to drop in newer monitors, your are not making sense... new monitors with new tech will always be expensive. So, if you like to be at the edge of technology, be ready to invest.

@@AviaryMolina its great, especially the hdr implementation. I have 55” lg C9 oled TV, but still acer predator x27 looks much better because of its 27” nature(denser, more ppi) and great for all games. It might sound personal, but 4k@120hz is the best experience ever. I can’t go down neither on resolution nor refresh rate after using this monitor for two years. Although, there might be better options now, as hdmi 2.1 is more common on monitors and if you don’t need hdr, then you can buy much cheaper 4k@120hz monitor, which i strongly recommend. Its just when i bought this monitor it was the only option(along with asus alternative with the same panel).

Great review! It's been very tempting to get one of these monitors and definitely enjoy the eye candy of 4k HDR I get from my LG C7. Though I already own a BenQ XL2546-B and a Dell S21716DG monitor. To think these 4k 144hz montiors cost more than the cost of both of those... I think I'll stick to 1440p and use DSR for now if I want a 4k 144hz experience. Especially since there aren't many HDR titles as of yet.

Thanks for the review. It REALLY helped. I've viewed both monitors as equals til now and only now considered buying and looking at reviews (i've been waiting for a 120hz pro grade color monitor for over a decade). It's a shame companies don't advertise color accuracy as it makes a world of difference. It's gonna be awhile before there's a next generation as panel upgrades tend to be very slow, but perhaps a fan (lol) and a bandwidth limit will force an upgrade to come out in 2020. So I guess the question is if anyone wants to pay 2k to get it 2 years quicker.

This review is excellent, every question in my head was answered. Thank you as always, you guys work extremely hard and carefully. Guess I will save a little longer and hope 4K 144Hz HDR is truly possible when new graphics cards release like possibly NVIDIA 3000 series and a monitor without a fan comes along with DP 1.5. I just can't deal with having to switch refresh rates to have accurate colours. While it's not out of the question, I'm not going to pay $3000+ AUD to have a monitor where I either turn off SDR and reduce refresh rate or deal with a sub optimal experience. The sweet spot seems to be IPS 1440p G-Sync 144Hz monitors right now, but for now I will stick with my 1080p 144Hz piece of junk. Plus, let's be honest, nothing other than 2080 Ti SLI today will even push the kinds of frame rates needed to game at such a resolution, you'd be looking at close to $7000 AUD just to have a problematic flagship experience and thats just for graphics cards and the monitor. I have money, but I didn't get it by spending unwisely, I want a true upgrade, and while 1440p would be an upgrade, I really want HDR also, so I will just have to wait. Here's hoping two years makes all the difference on all fronts.

Not sure if yours came with the variable backlight on- but obviously keep that on...I just tweak the brightness at night playing SDR games and make sure the sRGB mode is set to off in the OSD- this enables the wide color gamut. You prob know this stuff but you never know...and PRO games look INCREDIBLE- amazing. GOW and Horizon I tried and wow. I love this monitor, even SDR games look better than half ass HDR on cheaper models because of the colors...I do wish it was a bit bigger, but less need for AA at this PPI.
@WhirlingMusic

I was totally wondering what the sRGB was. Should I always have them off? I don't necessarily know what it means but I have both HDMI sRGB and DP sRGB set to on. Also, the "Action" mode seems very dark. Is that supposed to happen? Or should I up the brightness? When you are in HDR mode on PS4Pro, does the monitor Info tell you that it's using 12bit and that the range is limited? Also, do you always have to enable 98hz in Nvidia control panel to get the full 10bit or does doing it IN-GAME settings work the same way? Last question, everytime I turn the monitor on along with my desktop, I am always greeted with the "Gsync Display found/connected" in the notifications on Windows. Is that normal? Kinda annoying.

My Asus PG27UQ was spot on calibration wise no need to have any profile (i measured it) and no one will notice a minor input lag increase, motion blur though is easily noticable as IPS is not as good as TN to begin with so the better it is with motion is the one to buy. Not much. It's more that they HAD to put some RGB there because it's 2k dollars monitor. RGB is cheap shit and shit doesn't cost more just because there is RGB. There is RGB BECAUSE it costs more not other way around. Because, and you may be surprised, but higher market share prefers RGB over non-RGB tech. Silly, but they just need to sell that monitor, so it' safer to put some lights in.

I decided to wait for a price drop or for some new tech, that will enable PC monitors to have the 4K resolution, high refresh and low latency and response time. I hope OLED will pick up soon for PC monitors. Because I just bought a new OLED TV and I will be never coming back and buy an LCD panel EVER again, lol. Unless the Acer X27 goes for less than 1k euro, which it might in a couple of years.

Can I get these same specs but with a 1440p panel? As I need to power 3 of them
@letslachflash

I dont think this will be the case. These Gsync Ultimate monitors are still the pinnacle of monitor tech and they wont go back to 1440p. When you already use the crazy expensive FALD System it would be wasted to go with anything less then 4k. I think its especially a great decision because like this they wont be outdated anytime soon. Even the 3080ti wont reach 4k144 max settings in the more demanding games

Should I get this monitor for a new October of 2020 PC build where I will be using the new Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti ? Will this new video card take full advantage of this monitor ? Will Acer release a new successor to this monitor for a Fall release in 2020 to compliment the new Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti? Will the new Nvidia card support a faster transfer rate with Display port to get true HDR and full Adobe RGB 4.4.4 at 120 hz and faster? 🤓

Hi there. I have been researching about HDR displays for a while and decided to get the acer x27 next month. acer x27p (latest version) has eliminated the fan issue as per some reviews. There are a lot of HDR monitors coming up that do not have the local dimming system so they essentially are not truly HDR monitors. Currently true HDR is only for OLED and QLED TVs and these 2 monitors. This year in CES acer x32 and Asus pg32uQx were announced(will cost $3k on release) but 32 inch is too big for me, and I think 1400 nits of brightness, even for small sections of the screen in HDR is not safe for a monitor sitting distance. I think x27 is top of the line for now and this is the right time for me to get one as the prices are reduced. I play on pc and ps4 and ps4 games have the best HDR implementation. I also plan to get the top line Ampere GPU this year(currently on a 2060). If I get this monitor now I don't think I need to upgrade anytime soon, only when 8k becomes a regular standard and GPUs are super cheap, that too I don't think 8k is any noticeable on 27 inches(which is my last size for a monitor). And I personally feel HDR is way more revolutionary than Ray tracing. So Upgrading to this monitor before upgrading the GPU is a wise choice (because of the ps4). Hope you make an informative decision after reading my insights!

It was a outstanding comparison video i anticipated. But i could not comprehend how Acer X27 respond time and input lag were slightly faster than Asus PG27UQ while benchmarks you exhibit showed contrary results?
@Hardwareunboxed
@Hardwareunboxed 5 лет назад
The Acer X27 is slower in terms of response time, but faster in input lag, compared to the PG27UQ. When you combine the input lag and response time, the overall response is faster than the PG27UQ even though it's slower in response times

Hey I'm getting the ROG Vega 64 for my Ryzen 7 2700X build, just wanna ask what IPS panel monitor should I get thats 27inch-32inch has 144hz?? If it was just for gaming I would've went for either a TN 240hz or a VA 144hz, but I need IPS for gif manga creation hence why I picked R7 over i7.

Question : How many CPU cores would be optimal to have for Ray Tracing. Reason for asking: In the near future i'll purchase a new PC build. Primarily i do not care about Ray Tracing at all. I'm only concerned about performance/value ratio. Having said that, things i can easily upgrade are things like monitor and GPU and RAM etc. Would an 8 core be sufficient for example? As of now i'm looking into builds with the GTX 10-- series in mind as i said (but also waiting to see if there's an AMD answer before we die..)

I have the X27P model with variable Refresh rate over Hdmi and use it with pc and console. Of course you cant use the 144Hz but still it beats the crap out of any other display/ TV i ever saw. HDR on console is much better in terms of availability and when you have such a real HDR monitor its really a gamechanger

@@PeVoNZ but HDR caps you at 100fps. You only need a 4k 60hz monitor if you want hdr. I have the lg 4k hdr10 monitor, its $450. That's the best right now until it can work at 120 and 144hz without giving up the color range
