Turned out sweet! Rip the tape off snd mark off the edge with painters tape, then spray with black flex seal spray. Itll make your kevlar look factory fresh 👌🏼
I just did this. Saved the rubber edges before cutting the helmet, JB welded the edge, sanded it, gorilla glued the rubber back on, then taped the edges to flex-sealed the entire rim to fade in my glued edges. Made a MICH 2002 length and it looks great.
Im debating spray painting flex seal on a cvc I acquired but I don’t wanna ruin it. If u know anyone who has used flex seal spray on Kevlar how’d it turn out?
Couple of suggestions: First when painting on ground at least put a piece of cardboard down. Maybe invest in a card table and put newspaper or cardboard over it so you are not bending on the ground to paint. Second, try getting some automotive rubber trim for the edge and glue the trim to the helmet. Great job though. Thank you.
Good job man, I have a Ops-core FAST SX large on sale for $640, weight honestly is comparable. To be able to save $400 or more for a weekend project is great. Good job man.
As a “proper seal” I bought some rubber RV trim for my RV and it looks close. Google rubber edge trim for RV or Automobile, and you could probably find something to work.
@BabyFaceP I got a few questions for ya:) 1. How did you remove the old rubber trim? 2. The SBR rubber trim from McMaster-Carr is it special in any way material wise or is just like any other rubber trim? 3. What glue/adhesive did you use for the rubber trim? Someone commented that the JB marineweld doesn’t really stick well to rubber.
Did you do anything to seal the holes you drilled for the shroud? I've got an old helmet I just want to drill for an old one hole shroud for functional clone purposes.
MEME Simp: Paiding 2,000 dollars OpsCore level 3 Ballistic Fast Helmet costly you finically aid broken. Vs Chad: Buying ACH/Mich Military helmet cost between 200 to 300 dollars from Surplus Store. Plus build your own Fast Helmet with tools from Harbor Frieght at Home.
Would this in anyway affect ballistics performance? I feel like all that alteration would mess up the tightness of the Kevlar but idk much just honestly curious if anyone would know.
Some testing by nerds on the cut-off ear-flaps seems to indicate that they're still okay if properly sealed. But the "official" answer is that it's not super advisable, but getting shot in the head isn't really either.
A guy told me to use bicycle inner tube. I tried it but sucked at cutting it to size and failed miserably. I’m going to try rubber sealants putty tape next. If that doesn’t work, anyone recommend anything else? I’ve tried other things too and couldn’t get it. Someone should make an instructions video on how to do it.
Oh my buddy I wanted to do a helmet like this build it my own there's a custom helmet that has a bullet proof mask on etzy it's cost is 1k will post the link see if u can add the kevlar mask it looks awesome like the shredder helmet an mask
Dude you REALLY need to do a better job sealing the the helmet after you cut it. Cutting an ACH is fine but you really need to do a more thorough job on it.
Would have been great to know what rails you used/where you got them. How you oriented the ngv mount and how you marked the rails out. Videos like 50% useless and then a good chunk of the other 50% you stood directly in front of camera 🤦
Spray painting in the dirt? Seriously? By the way, the impact of your jigsaw cutting ballistic material GREATLY reduces the integrity of your helmet. The area around your cut out are now completely ruined. Simply read up on doing exactly what you just did by any ballistic helmet manufacturer and you'll see I'm not breaking your stones. If this is just an airsoft helmet then no worries and pretty cool job. Just watch your environment when spray painting any job. Keep the videos coming. I'm serving in the Ukraine as a medic and bought my own helmet. $2,000 USD. There are so many styles and accessories you can then keep your helmet safe and your brain matter inside where it belongs. Have a great day mate. Cheers.. 🇺🇦🫡
Damn I really needa start a channel. For now though, here’s a protip: Upol Raptorliner is your BFF for this. You can either blast the whole helmet, or just tape out the edges you want (where rubbers used to be) and spray them, then pull tape for a clean, indestructible edging. It comes in black (duh) it now in tintable White, including FDE/OD tints. Great job and vid, BTW. Subd. 👊🏽
What if you reused the rubber edge cover? I feel like, with the help of a heat gun, you could install it right after you apply the epoxy. It would probably look nicer and be more resistant to damage.
"Didn't want to go at this blind and screw around for 30 mins on a video...." Bruh I feel this. I'm staring at almost 3 hours of footage I need to cut to a 20 min vlog. I need to film less! Haha good video as always dude.
Looks alright for what it is. I am curious for a better option than the tape on the edges. I wonder what they actually use for helmets from the factory.
nice to see more babyface P content, if I go this route I would put a rubberized coating around the edge. something like LINE-X or Flex seal would work well for keeping the kevlar/amarid in place without worrying about the adhesive breaking down and paint. good vid though
Atleast the ACH helmet is stronger helmet better protection it could take rifle hits way better than normal highcute level 3a helmets that are meant for 44 magnum not rifle rounds I really like his helmets I like it a lot ❤ your next project u should do with another helmet level 3a is u should clue an use a strong pressure an glue Kevlar layers into the helmets inside where your head goes use ten or twelve layers of kevlar that’s what I did with my level 3a bulldog helmet I clued layers of kevlar into the helmet dome it will catch the rifle rounds but it might have deformation might fracture your skull but it’s better than the rifle rounds going through your head it’s works great I already tried it with a both 7.62s an 5.56 rounds an water Melon it survived just had a tiny little crack the energy fro the bullet got took. Away becsue of the clue an Kevlar inside the head dome level 3a with extra Kevlar sheets cut out an clued inside I got the idea becsue a level 3a already almost stops rifle rounds it slows them down the Helmets are too dense but by adding Kevlar lays specially clued with strong clue it acts like a catching net I got the idea becsue I make bullet proof stuff I like stopping bullets an catching them so I could examinen them ❤😊 I used the rest of my Kevlar in my level 3+ armoured plate Carrier my vest has every weak spot stiched with Kevlar now shoulder pads are comfortable now an it’s take 10 layers of Kevlar too stop 9mm an 25 layers too stop rifle rounds but if u a huge press an u press them together with a clue an press they will become more compact clue with cow. Out just wiipe it away when I shoot them it’s flufs up again too stop the rifle rounds my dad an brother like the idea ❤❤
I gotta do this to my mich helmet... I have a bump helmet right now for NODs but it has no ballistics protection so maybe it's time to cut my actual ballistic helmet
Hey brother! Love your videos I just got my ACH in and I’m ready to cut A few questions 1) how did you mark it , it kinda looks like chaulk? 2) how long did the JB WELD take to setup
I've cut well into the hundreds of helmets from the PASGT, ACH, LWH and ECH. I don't recommend the Chinese helmets because their laminating process is horrible and once you start cutting all those unsealed kevlar fibers start exposing. If you want a good rubber edging i would suggest using a butyl rubber about the thickness of a bicycle tire and bonded on with 3M rubber adhesive.
Technically yes, how much? Who knows. The integrity of the helmet isnt 100% when they drill the factory holes for the chin strap. This probably makes a negligible difference.
I paid $65 for a pasgt, just ordered a retention system and padding to ditch the old leather suspension system, and ordered foam padding, I'm gonna line x mine black then spray paint camo pattern, add arc rails later down the road, I'm using some rubber door gasket on mine, and pryuse marine epoxy, but I'd go with gorilla brand flex seal tape, but use rtv epoxy to help seal rest of the tape then line x it, and paint camo color
