Respectfully I dont agree that the desire to acquire or become something is given to us by education, society (man made stuff). I do not think it is man made, it is existential. you go back to ancient pre historic times, when man was living in jungle, language was not developed , society was not formed..how do we come this far and created this complex civilization?? obviously, due to the desire to create, achieve and enquire. it is there in animals as well. a lion is born with these qualities that he has to acquire his territory, protect it and expand it. and yes you do not mean much unless you acquire and build something of your own. you may choose to step away and lead a lonely, ordinary life (may be feel happy in it as well) but the fact is you are still no body..who will help you when you fall ill? (if you dont have enough money), your neighbour can grab your land and you can't do much.. and there are many complexities/ challenges life throws at you. the point is you do not have any option apart from working, building and creating. these flowery words only confuse you and make you incompetent, cynical and jealous of hardworking people of the world, you start labeling them as materialists and feel good about yourself. Live by simple rules. Work, be healthy, take care of your family and kids..it is much more joyful and precious than some fictional nirvana.
