Achates Inspires: Political and Artistic Freedom 

Achates Inspires event on Tuesday 20 February at 1pm: Political and Artistic Freedom.
Issues regarding freedom of expression take on an additional resonance at a time when efforts to divide people and ideas through the so-called cultural wars are powerful political tools and we are faced by polarising international conflicts.
The cultural sector has often been at the forefront of political and societal change so what should be our role going forward? How do we ensure the safety of artists when providing these platforms? How do we balance artistic expression with staff making political commentary or expressions? How do we respond to staff who are calling out for our arts charities to do something?
We are delighted to welcome Alia Alzougbi, Artistic Director and CEO of Shubbak, Daniel Gorman, Director of English PEN and Sean Egan, Legal Consultant, to form our esteemed panel.
Join us as we explore these questions and the role of the cultural sector in politics.
