It is relevant if it said May 4th, then none of these answers are right. It’s not confusing, just keep adding 7 days to May 3rd so May 31st is a Wednesday, June 7th is the first Wednesday of June, and you get June 21st as the answer

i think the may 3rd part was there to confuse people, it's probably the part that really threw gavin off

I don’t see how it throws you off. 7 days a week, so May 10th is a Wednesday. So is the 17th, 24th, 31st, and guess what? June comes after May! So June 1st is a Thursday, June 7th is the first Wednesday, 14th the second, and 21st is the third Wednesday

zz tarry even without the May 3rd part, it basically asks, based on the answers available, which day will Wednesday fall on if it was the third Wednesday of June. It’s impossible for it to be any answer but the 21st

zz tarry it’s a multiple choice question though. If you look at the answers provided, then you only have one logical answer. If the question stated May 4th, then the answers would have to change along with it. Otherwise the whole thing is obsolete. With the answers provided in the clip.

Oly1y Yeah, the obvious answer was 21st. But with May 3rd in there. It would have been advisable to count the weeks and make sure that the 3rd Wednesday in June, definitely ends up on the 21st.

May 3 was listed to narrow down which of those days it'd be.

June 21, there are a specified three weeks and the smallest number that can be divided by 21 days is literally the 21rst day of June.

Paul B It's a red herring, basically. If the question simply asked what date the third wednesday of June would fall on, the question would be too easy, you simply recite your 7 times tables to 3 (7 x 3 = 21), and pick June 21st. When they throw the May date in there, your brain will automatically try and associate that date with the actual question, and, when you're under pressure like Gavin was, it can easily cause you to mess up.

The May part is for clearance so you know what day, say, June 1st will be when calculating. Without it, you can still know the range of the answer, but not certain what day is it if the answers were 20,21,22 for example

+irman925 It is. That's exactly why there is the "May 3rd was in a wednesday" thing there. Even if you don't go the simple path and go three weeks (3x7), if May 3rd is wednesday, you can go week by week - may 3rd is wed, then next wed is may 10th, then next wed is may 17th, and so forth, and it lands exactly on wednesday June 21st.

the question can literally only be june 21, it’s the third wednesday in the month. it’s really not that difficult of a question
