Achilles Achilles Achilles come down, won't you Get up off Get up off the roof? You're scaring us And all of us Some of us love you Achilles, it's not much but there's proof You crazy assed cosmonaut Remember your virtue Redemption lies plainly in truth Just humour us Achilles Achilles come down Won't you get up off Get up off the roof Achilles Achilles Achilles come down, won't you Get up off Get up off the roof? The self is not so weightless Nor whole and unbroken Remember the pact of our youth Where you go I'm going So jump and I'm jumping Since there is no me without you Soldier on Achilles Achilles come down Won't you get up off Get up off the roof? Loathe the way they light candles in Rome But love the sweet air of the votives Hurt and grieve but don't suffer alone Engage with the pain as a motive Today of all days See How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you'll rise above Achilles Achilles Achilles Jump now You are absent of cause Or excuse So self-indulgent And self-referential No audience could ever want you You crave the applause Yet hate the attention Then miss it, your act is a ruse It is empty, Achilles So end it all now It's a pointless resistance For you Achilles Achilles Just put down the bottle Don't listen to what you've consumed It's chaos, confusion And wholly unworthy Of feeding and it's wholly untrue You may feel no purpose Nor a point for existing It's all just conjecture and gloom And there may not be meaning So find one and seize it Do not waste your self on this roof Hear those bells ring deep in the soul Chiming away for a moment Feel your breath course frankly below See life as a worthy opponent Today of all days See How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you'll rise above Crowned by an overture bold and beyond Ah, it's more courageous to overcome You want the acclaim The mother of mothers (it's not worth it Achilles) More poignant than fame Or the taste of another (don't listen Achilles) But be real and just jump You dense motherfucker (you're worth more, Achilles) You will not be more Than a rat in the gutter (so much more than a rat) You want my opinion (no one asked your opinion) My opinion you've got You asked for my counsel (no one asked for your thoughts) I gave you my thoughts Be done with this now And jump off the roof Can you hear me Achilles? I'm talking to you I'm talking to you I'm talking to you I'm talking to you Achilles come down Achilles come down Throw yourself into the unknown With pace and a fury defiant Clothe yourself in beauty untold And see life as a means to a triumph Today of all days See How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you'll rise above Crowned by an overture bold and beyond Ah, it's more courageous to overcome
@@piotr3k742 yeah, achilles is most likely contemplating suicide in the song. two sides of the song are fighting on whether he should continue on living or not (the negative side talking about all of his flaws and encouraging him to jump off the roof while the positive side is trying to teach him his worth/promise him there's more to life), and intentionally falling off a building is a very well known method of suicide.
This song always struck me as patroclus speaking to achilles from beyond the grave and the roof seemed a metaphor for wasting away in his grief. 5:05 struck me as achilles’ self loathing monologue to himself and patroclus trying to convince him his life is worth so much more But the name achilles could also be a placeholder for any one listener who’s life is oppressive and they feel the weight of a predestined future and eyes upon them at all times, making them struggle with their self image and worth.
not to make anyone sad, but all i can think about when i'm listening to this is patroclus' ghost in tsoa watching achilles go after hector, therefore resigning himself to his own death. to me, the line "remember the pact of our youth" makes me think patroclus is telling achilles: "no, don't do this. remember when we were kids? we made a promise. u swore to me that u would be the first hero to be happy. u have to remember our promise. u can't break it now."
She walks in the front door, dropping her bag and her mask, letting her feelings out. She leans against the door and slides down, roughly hitting the floor, the tears starting. She allows the feeling of loneliness through, allows her walls to come down. Looking up, she yearns to find the familiar pair of eyes waiting for her in the shadows of her apartment, but her eyes meet nothing but darkness. She gets up and walks to the balcony, looking to the street stories below. The sound of the city wafts up to her - cars honking, snippets of far away conversations, stories of millions of people being written in the darkness of a moonless night. But, where theirs continue on, hers wishes to come to a close. She pushes through every day, hoping, waiting, yet no hope coming. But, by some miracle, she finds it in her to keep going. She finds the courage to step on a dark path. She finds it in her to continue to write her story.
„I would know him blind“ „Name one hero who was happy“ „He is half of my soul as the poets say“ „I am made of memories“ „We were like gods at the dawning of the world , and our joy was so bright we could see nothing but the other.“ „I could recognize him by touch alone , by smell ; i would know him blind , by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in dead, at the and of the world.“ „In the darkness ,two shadows , reaching through the hopeless , heavy dusk. Their hands meet , and light spills in a flood like a hundred golden urns pouring out if the sun.“ „What has Hector ever done to me?“ PA-TRO-CLUS -The song of achilles
@@FloridaTesfay I already read the whole thing and cried XD. Thank you for leading me to discover one of my favorite books ever. The was she writes and describes things was just so beautiful
Feels pretty cool to be the only Dream smp comment so far. I checked all 28 comments. But seriously this song is actually so sick I'm so glad I was introduced to it holyy
i didnt even know this song was correlated ith the smp,, thats pretty lit ngl,, funny,, I painted Dream and am now ab to paint Tubbo then Fundy and I've had this on repeat the whole time lmao
@@nutelllla_ ok so ik i'm a little late, but if you haven't gotten into the dream smp yet, you should check out EvanMCGaming's channel. He has a playlist that summarizes the whole dream smp in videos of around 40-50 mins, which is waaay shorter than the actual streams. He does an insane job, but if you're worried about it not being entertaining enough, don't because the way he narrates the dream smp seems like a book. and the animations are great, too. :D
I love this song so so much and it's very near and dear to me but also, it sounds like they're saying Jet Off The Roof and I just imagined Achilles with a jetpack fdgdsjfhfdsjgk
This song is a haunting reminder of the darkness I thought I had escaped. This song echoes the voices in my head, the ones that tell me I'm not enough, that I'm a burden, and that I'll never be worthy. It's a painful reflection of the moments I've hit rock bottom, and the tears I've cried in silence. Gang of Youths' lyrics have a way of reaching into my soul and stirring up emotions I thought I had long buried. This song is a heartbreaking reminder that some wounds never fully heal, and that the ache of my past will always be a part of me.
"Didn't I see you in my dreams ,holding me as though we were both stars before they merge . And didn't I know our doom was close but still buried my head in your chest , hoping we would still love each other beyond time as we turn into ashes " - Patroclus to Achilles "Please mix our ashes ,so I could still be held by my most beloved companion ,eternally in my lover's loving embrace ,keeping him close" - Achilles
My continuation of the end of "The Song of Achilles". :> This is helping me cope. ;-; In the darkness I reached for him, longing to feel the warmth of his arms around me once more. We threw ourselves onto each other and didn't let go. I searched for his face in the darkness and reached towards it, he leaned into me and lets the sweetness of his breath release unto my throat. "Achilles, I'm so sorry I didn't keep my promise" I choked out. "I'm so sorry-" He cut my sentence short, "Shh, hush now." he said, "Patroclus, you have no idea how much I have missed you." We hugged each other tightly in a warm embrace for a long while. Not daring to let go, not wanting to lose each other again. His hair seemed to gleam in the faint light the room provided, I pulled away giggled and said, "Even in this darkness you still seem to shine your light upon everything like the sun." He looked at me slightly confused, then suddenly took me up into his arms. Then he grinned, my heart almost can't take it when he smiles like that. It makes me feel like I'm the on top of his world. "I love you, Patroclus." He said. My eyes began to water, it felt like just yesterday was the last day I ever saw my Achilles alive. Fighting tears, I said "I love you too, Achilles.".
So yeah here we go. I'm sure you know this part ,,Today of all days she-Ah its more courageous to overcome. ". Then comes Apollon, him and Patroklos are arguing yeah.. Then comes a long pause where you only hear French. After that, so at the end Patroklos is singing: ,,Throw yourself in the unknown...". And I imagine at that point, that that's Patroklos' soul, which is already in Elysium, singing about his best friend, because he misses him very much. Then he starts:,,Today off all days see...", remembering how he spoke this words once to his old friend. BUT: after ,,see", he hears a familiar voice singing: ,,How the most dangerous thing is to love". He turns his head and sees Achilles. Achilles is dead, came to Elysium and sees his best friend. He remembers his word. Patroklos, smiling, completes: ,,How, you will heal and you rise above". Achilles: ,,Crowned, but an overture" P:,,bold and beyond" Achilles: ,,Ah, it's more courageous to overcome. " and then they hig each other crying happines-tears
Patroclus stood on the rooftop in Elysium, looking out over the world that they had left in peace. Suddenly they hear this song playing. It’s being played by a young boy, who had just died. That boy was dancing with another boy, around the same age. Achilles and Patroclus knew these people had died way way way after they had and thing song had been made for them. They also started dancing on the rooftop and as the song played, memories flashed through their head about their life. Hundreds of years after death, they were still in love.
i've hurt someone and it is irrepairable. And... I saw it coming.. And now I've shed a tear listening to this slowed version of Achilles come down. Y'all I'm devasted. Please idk what to do. wish me positivity please
