This video shows just how easy it is for someone to remove this style lift.
Please keep in mind that I have ever touched a Stairlift and I was figuring this out as I went.

Excellent video. Very helpful. I will be doing this job tomorrow. Lots of tips, like the set screws that are not visible and the 3/4 inch nuts which have to be loosened before removing the Allen key bolts on the other side. I would have probably tried to run the chair off the rail but you mentioned the programming aspect. So will be removing with rail as you did. Thanks for posting,

One thing I did learn is that you need a socket wrench and allen hex head for the screws that hold the rails together...the L shaped Allen wrenches don't have enough leverage.

Can you please tell me the distance of the rail from the wall and the height of the rail from the stairs. ACRON is discusting that they do not supply an install manual for the 180.

Great video. I really like the detailed captions below the video, and I liked that you showed the whole process when you were trying to remove the seat at the top and then deciding to go to the middle.

I'm attempting to remove a lift now - but absolutely NONE of the sections comes apart. They are wedged together so tightly that they will not come apart. Can't believe how easy you are able to separate them in this video. Just can't believe it. I'm about to get some dynamite.

I took mine out in 3 pieces. The installer stripped out so many of the 5mm heads, that it would have taken hours to remove. I also manually ratcheted the chair off of the rails to make it easier to pick up and move.

You dont need to remove all the rail in order to remove the carriage either the seat , if u only remove the charge point u can go to program mode (clear mem) then with the remote u can reprogram or get the carriage up or down ez, the remove the seat. Also when reprogramming is good to know what u doing if you set a higher speed in the helicals or the angle increases u can jammed one of the motors when tryng to sync with the other. watch your fingers this is no jokes

What's involved with re-programming can you do that yourself or do you have to get someone in?

Hmm. Just bought a place with a 180 in place. Not needed now but aged 70 and with screwed lungs says best to hang on to it, so this vid has helped me understand what seems a logical approach and somehow i am going to get this up in the loft for if & when. Battery getting removed prior tho, methinks. (that should lose some of the Kg's) Thanks for this.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It was pretty much a trial and error on figuring out how to dismantle it but this was the first time I ever worked on a lift like this. It’s kind of crazy that they put the set screws in the place that they did but hopefully this video helps people realize how to dismantle the rails and not try to beat the crap out of them to get them to separate. I was able to Ship the entire unit to my fathers home in Hawaii and then reinstalled everything and the programming was a bit tricky but there are resources out there with detailed instructions how to reprogram the lift.
@shanea6140

@@pumpbottlemisters Hitting the crap out of it is exactly what I was doing. The rubber mallet left no marks, but it also didn't budge it a millimetre. I dismantled it last night 9 (13 stairs) in under 2 hours. I left the chair on a section of rail for the new owner. Hooly dooly, that thing is HEAVY!

Very good - I have to do the same to an Acorn 180 (mom passed away)...leaving it on a short rail has benefits to completely removing it off the rail I guess? I had to replace the batteries about 18 months ago and had to reprogram the start/stop points and speed - was a bit tricky but did it - don't understand why they don't use non-volatile memory for storing the data points.
@steveselby2694
@steveselby2694 3 года назад
Leave it on a short rail if you can at all. It was difficult to get it back on the rail. We found we had to loosen bolts on a round plate that holds a couple of rollers in order to get the rail through. Once it was through, we re-tightened them and it was fine. To get it back on the rail, we also had to reset the over speed brake which had triggered in the removal process. I have instructions for programming a T565 which is the model my 2018 chair should have, but mine won't enter the P1 mode when I hold down the three footrest safety switches. It just keeps blinking E1 when I do that. Did you learn any tricks or find good instructions?
@pumpbottlemisters
@pumpbottlemisters 3 года назад
I will look again for my programming instructions that I used. It was a bit confusing but I was ably to work thru them. It took me about 5 or 6 try’s to get the new programming to take. Then while I was back in CA the 2 new remotes arrived and I walked my 80 year old dad thru the process to delete the old remote and reprogram the 2 new remotes and the the frigging Acorn reverted back to its original programming. He went half the way down the stairs and then it started tilting like it was coming to a landing and he about fell off. Needless to say we had to reprogram the lift again and ever since then it has been working great.

@@steveselby2694 I just googled "acorn 180 reprogramming" which led me to the same document that came with the batteries. I just kept trying but not sure what I was doing wrong - the instructions I got with the batteries were not 100% clear.

@@brianleung1105 try the links at this page. Just be careful because the website with the instructions will try to put a lot of crap on your computer. Don't accept anything but the instruction document. okprops.com/how-to-problem-solve-an-acorn-180-or-bison-80-stairlift/ To enter programing mode on the older version, you hold in all three safety switches on that footrest. On the newer version, you in the two safety switches that run from the seat to the footrest and the bottom switch on the footrest.

@steveselby2694
@steveselby2694 3 года назад
@@pumpbottlemisters When I pulled the seat up, the plastic around the top of the hole started to come up with it and caused the switch it was holding to pop out of its location. It began to crack the plastic. It could all be put back, but was close to being a bigger headache. I don't know why it stuck to the seat shaft, but it's something to look out for.

@@pumpbottlemisters I have a slightly different seat, probably just a different iteration of the same one you show. Mine swivels on the front corner, not a center post. It appears there's a plate across the top of the battery base unit with four bolts that hold it in place. I'm nearly done with my "uninstall" -- just waiting for my son to come over to steady the chair/rail piece while I take out the last 3 screws. I'd hate for the chair to crash through the upstairs railing and fall 10 feet to the foyer below. :( Thank you SO MUCH for this informative video! I did number all my pieces sequentially from bottom to top before I started disassembly, so it would be a little easier to reassemble, if needed.
