Thought I'd go full circle in celebration of my millionth view and 50th video, and seeing as the Mario video alone makes up almost half of those views, what better way to go than some more acoustic video game music!
I never owned a console, but used to go round to my mate's house as a kid to play Donkey Kong whenever I could. Incredible game, and especially memorable for David Wise's excellent soundtrack. This song in particular conjures up memories of swimming frantically away from those damned swordfish.
All 3 guitars are in drop-D with a capo at III. I took a few liberties with the arrangement, because there's a load of stuff in Wise's original which was pretty much impossible to recreate on acoustic. Hope you enjoy it, and all credit to Wise for the original composition!

I can just picture myself in the forest, laying up under the stars, the bittersweet smell of a burning campfire filling up the atmosphere, and this song playing faintly in the background. Even so many years later, this imagery sticks with me. Such a display of ease and tranquility!

I'm sitting indoors on a hot summer evening. The last rays of sunlight are falling below the sky while dark clouds beckon overhead and thunder rolls in the distance as we wait for a lunar eclipse to appear in the sky. I've played guitar since 2000, I was 16 then, I had a subscription to nintendo power in the 90s and I had the VHS's of all these games that came out and donkey kong was the main one I cherished. I relive the 90's by listening to renditions like this. I also have played guitar a long time and love playing stuff from FF7 and FF10, but of all the songs I think this particular track is my favorite nintendo song made of that time frame. I could probably learn this song but it would take me probably like 6 weeks, with the lack of effort and motivation these days if I did learn it, I would probably just sit around playing this all day every day and get nothing done. The track is mesmerizing to me

Listening to this amazing song, arranged like this, reminds me of a simpler time: A time when graphics didn't matter as much, and people had fun no matter what.
