How to make a guitar and my approach to build from scratch with no building plans.
This is an acoustic baritone guitar with "Half Nashville" tuning.
I´m a huge fan of Pat Metheny and his albums "What´s It All About" and "One Quiet Night" where he uses a special acoustic baritone guitar build by Linda Manzer.
It is low tuned from A to A (sometimes Ab to Ab) but the two middle strings is one octave higher. Also called Half Nashville tuning
I decided to try and build my own version and the video shows my approach to build a guitar from scratch with no building plans.
It has been finished one week before this video and it is my new favorite guitar. I almost can't stop playing...:)
After the intro video with Metheny playing "Don´t Know Why" the music is me playing and improvising on this guitar.
I lost the part where i bend the sides due to a bad SD card, but you can see me do that in some of my other videos.
Containing these steps:
Drawing the design 0:46
Building materials 2:43
Some details, the form, the roset and the end strip etc 3:16
Bracing the top 5:05
Voicing the top 8:04
Closing the box 9:04
Making the guitar neck 13:21
Guitar binding 16:41
Shaping the neck 19:07
Making the fingerboard 19:20
Finishing 22:34
Playing the new guitar 23:07

Sooo much patience! I would last about about 45 minutes, then jump in the car and drive to the guitar shop! I admire you! Question: how many hours do you have in the build?

Excellent work! Wish I could see how you bent the sides, especially for the cutaway. I've used a free programme called Inkscape, which allows you to design guitars and fretboards and allows you to print to the exact A4 size without having to separate the drawings like you did.

Hi Simon. Thank you. To be honest i lost the bending part of the building process due to a bad SD card. But you can see my bending progress in my scrap wood guitar video. There is no cutaway, but its the same, just with a bit more patience...:)

Hey Anders, congratulations, the guitar came out super. In my opinion very professional and creative handcraft. That applies also for your handmade tools - impressive! I would like to start building my own guitar as well. Just would like to give it a try. Can you give me an advice where to by good wood in Denmark or Germany? I'm from Fehmarn. Wood like Rosewood and Sitka. Holger

Hey Holger. Thank you! I buy tonewood from maderasbarber.com in Spain. They have a big catalog and fair prices. Unfortunately i have not found a store i Denmark, but I'm sure Germany have some tonewood dealers. Have a happy build! :)
