🔸Introduction - In this video I have explained about Acoustic Emission Testing (AET) which is a part of NDT methods. It is used to detect defects in mechanically loaded structure by releasing elastic waves through plastic deformation, crack initiation and fracture. In this type of testing the specimen under testing will be subjected to repititive Or contineous stress. It is preferred than other NDT techniques because of it's ability to monitor contineously the materials, entire volume can be examined easily.
🔹Working principle - Acoustic Emission Testing is based on the principle that when a component is subjected to an external stimulus such as change in load or temperature, it releases the energy ⚡in the form of stress waves and are are triggered. These acoustic emission (AE) signals will propagatw through the surface which is detected using the sensor. By deteecting these signals, we can detect the location of these discontinuities.
🔹There are two types AET
1) Contineous emission
2) Burst emission
