This video appeared in my feed. So specifically helpful for my stage setup. I am also playing multiple acoustic instruments including mandolin and I use a Baggs Venue! Thank you for the detailed description of your setup.

You’re very welcome! I’ve since added the TC Helicon as a stationary member of my board, but everything else that’s here is pretty close to what this setup was earlier this year. I actually went back and watched this video last week and was pleased with how accurately I had presented all of the elements. Always making small tweaks here and there and researching what else is out there, but this is still the setup I used and have used a bunch gigging this year.

Thanks, I've been looking for a way to blend mic and pickup tones!

Great video! I play mandolin, and I’m thinking about what pedals to get for playing live. I’m trying to decide between the LR Baggs Venue DI or the Toneprint DI. Since you’ve used both with mandolin, which would you recommend?

If you’re just using one for your pickups- the VoicePrint would be my recommendation.

great rundown. How are you compensating for feedback with a condenser on stage? Are their venues where you just cannot use a condensor?

That’s a great question. I think the first motivation to build this setup was because I’d be using only a condenser and couldn’t quite get the volume that I wanted before feedback. It also meant that where I stood was crucial to exactly what tone I got. So I started brainstorming on how I could include signal from the pickup to give me that extra volume and consistency. With this setup, I have control over the volume for both the pickup and mic signals independently. That allow me to tweak things in a pinch if I feel like feedback is a problem. I also utilize a Beyerdynamic M 201 TG, which is a dynamic mic that I really like when I want that condenser type quality without as much susceptibility to feedback. I’ve used it straight into my amp at Farmers Market gigs and it has given me plenty of volume. But again, positioning makes a difference in terms of tone/volume if you’re only using a mic on a stand.

I’m interested that you run a mic into the Venue. How close do you need the Ear Trumpet from the instrument? Natural Sound is the best.

Now job on the wiring! How is the pickup attached? I don't have the original putty for mine :(
@JacobHeadMusic

For the mandolin? I just used one of the original clear adhesives that came with the pickup. I believe they’re just 3M double sided tape pieces, but you may be able to reach out to LR Baggs about sending you some or some putty!

The voice print is excellent I no longer use the venue.

It’s a great pedal. The Venue just serves as an EQ for my microphones now.

I’ve seen a lot of people dealing with a whine/hiss sounding coming from the pedal when used with other pedals, when it’s powered separately and when it’s used with other pedals. Have you had a noise issue like this? If so, how did you fix it? Thank you 🙏🏽 I’m hoping I don’t have to return my pedal and that I can solve this issue.

I did notice that positioning made a difference a couple years ago, so I had to be careful as to which pedals I placed near the power strip. I still did get some low white noise for a while after that, but eventually set a really low gate on the TC Helicon and now it’s no longer a problem.

Interested to know if you've tried the Tonedexter .

Ive been playing through a tone dexter with K&K for a few years. I really like it, very nice close to true mic sound. make sure you get the mandolin software installed on it and not the guitar software, if youre playing mandolin.

How do you power all that outside
@JacobHeadMusic
@JacobHeadMusic 2 года назад
I’m just running an ordinary power strip fastened under the board. I have a few of the pedals daisy-chained but some (like the Voiceprint) have their own unique power supply. I also have both Xvive pieces always connected to USB power, so I have one of the little power cubes and a dual USB. All in all, I think two Snark adapters, the USB cube, and the independent power supply. The chord on the power strip is 3-4 feet, so I can usually plug in on stage pretty easily, but I ofter carry an extension chord just in case.
