I'm not a medical professional. My 72 year old husband started having this issue about 10 years ago. His doctors just put him on an allergy medication.

Somewhat confusing that the topic of the video doesn't start until 6 minutes into the video.

Hi dr. Please help 🙏. I’m severely allergic to milk. It all started when I ordered vegan ice cream, but they gave me the one with milk. I took a bite and realized it after I had already swallowed it. 10 minutes later, my lip swelled up, but I didn’t have Benadryl on me, so I just went on with my night. I didn’t get hives like How I usually do when I get allergic reaction. So I thought it was mild and will subside. But The next day, it felt like I had a golf ball in my throat when I swallowed and my face was swollen. So I googled and same pictures and symptoms came up for delayed angioedema allergic reaction. I will go to my gp on Monday, but do you know what can treat the swelling of this condition? It’s such a beautiful day and I have to hide at home 😪🙈

So if C1 inhibitor inactivates both Factor xII and Kallikrein .. And in HAE there is no C1INH .. And both Kallikrein and Factor xII in return activate each other through a positive feedback without inhibition from C1INH.. Can we say now that HAE is a hypercoaguable state?

Question for you Doc: What is your opinion on using TXA for acute ACE-I induced angioedema?

I have some kind of angioedema (just the facial swelling). It's super annoying and antihistamines don't work well for eliminating symptoms. Corticosteroids work way better, but they're very difficult to get. Doctors only prescribe a few at a time.

I’ve had the same thing for 1.5 years-it is horrible. Sometimes my eye areas are so swollen when I wake in the morning that I can’t open my eyes. Steroids work somewhat, but don’t eliminate it completely. Just discovered it is a result of taking Losartan and Rosuvastatin (both ACE inhibitors). It’s called ACE Inhibitor induced Angioedema. The blood test C1 Esterase was used to identify this. I’m hoping my swelling ceases now that my doctor has taken me off ACE inhibitors. I hope you find the cause and it goes away. 🙂

@@debralarive It's strange. Mine only happens once every few months, but it seems to be completely random. One thing that seems to be consistent is that I usually get sick after the Angioedema attack. Almost like it's an alarm for respiratory illness. Odd, but it has been happening less frequently (it used to happen every few weeks), so I'm just dealing with it as it occurs.

Why is c1 and c1q low in acquired angioedema?
@user-ww8vl7fw4q
@user-ww8vl7fw4q 3 года назад
Typically because something (disease, blood malignancy or otherwise) is cataboliszing (consuming/"eating away") the C1q and possibly C1 inhibitor causing it to become dysfunctional and thus causing Angioedema. I have Acquired Angioedema Type 1.

@@user-ww8vl7fw4q I have aquired Angioedema type 1. I work with both immunology and oncology in Hershey PA. Responding to you SS because I have yet to find another person who is managing Aguired. It's a lonely journey. So, Hi! ☺️

@@MissJenX666 hey! Omggg...I know the feeling completely and to feel lonely because you have to worry about keeping an eye on your blood/body so it doesn't develop further into a blood malignancy. I see an immunologist who diagnosed me 5 yrs ago at 28 and a hematologist/onc (most are anyways lol) since 2019 to keep an eye on things a couple times a year. Its like an added burden to carry on top of dealing with the attacks so sometimes people with HAE just don't understand. There is def no one to relate to! Do you have any other autoimmunes? I have a few others since if you have one Immune issue you end up with more down the line.😑🙃 Thanks for reaching out and I totally understand how you feel with having this disorder/disease!!
